For many in Hollywood’s television and movie industry, life has become about holding on.
The pandemic and double strikes have taken their toll on the entertainment industry. And the recovery that many had expected has proven messy, at best.
And now, Hollywood veterans — in production, development and whose businesses support the industry — are facing the unimaginable reality that their dreams of making a long career in Hollywood may be coming to an end — or to a moment when they are forced to consider a pivot to a different life.
TheWrap talked to working folks in the industry to understand their personal stories. They include producers in unscripted TV, an award-winning hairdresser, a TV director, a senior vice president for development, a dolly grip and a sound supervisor. All have struggled to find work since last year. They are coping with mortgages, car payments and even food. Most are scrambling...

In recent years, many basic cable networks who have generally avoided scripted series have been dabbling their toes into that field with mixed success. One network who has been all over the spectrum on that front is A&E.
Though mostly known for reality fare like "Dog the Bounty Hunter," "Storage Wars" and "Steven Seagal: Lawman," the network has also had some success with original scripted dramas including "Bates Motel," "The Glades" and "Longmire".
The latter in particular was a very solid performer with around 5-6 million viewers an episode. Nevertheless the network gave the contemporary western drama, their highest-rated scripted show, the chop the other month.
As the show wasn't produced in-house, it's not as big a profit earner as the network's reality fare so they plan to replace it with more unscripted programming. To that affect, the network has now confirmed it has picked up "Donnie Loves Jenny,...

It's never a bad time to start making plans for the zombie apocalypse. After all, it's not like the undead are going to give us notice before they start climbing out of the ground and trying to eat our brains. So we decided we'd organize our team and figure out which Reelz characters we're calling dibs on for when the undead begin to rise. With the group we've put together, those zombies don’t stand a chance.
Yossi Dina (Beverly Hills Pawn)
Undoubtedly, Yossi’s masterful negotiating skills will come in handy when we run across other teams trying to survive the apocalypse. But more importantly Yossi’s experience as and Army Captain and Intelligence Officer will be priceless. We’re pretty sure both his fighting and survival skills are all but limitless.

First, he was Steven Seagal: Lawman. But Steven Seagal...statesman? Saying that it started out as a joke between him and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the big-screen action hero turned reality-tv deputy says that he would "remotely consider" making a run for governor of Arizona. "But probably I have a lot of other responsibilities that may be more important to address," the actor, whose aforementioned show chronicled his turn as a deputy in Louisiana, told Phoenix's ABC 15. (Seagal also walked the beat in the area for Steven Seagal: Lawman—The Lost Episodes, airing this month on Reelz.) The Under Siege star says that he thinks the No. 1 problem for the country as a...

Kick the holiday blues and start off the new year with a bang with one of Hollywood’s greatest action heroes!
The holiday season is supposed to be a joyous time, even for those who don’t celebrate any particular holiday. It’s a time when we are all reminded to be a little kinder, a little gentler, a little more filled with the spirit of giving. But, the sluggish traffic, packed store aisles, and constant cacophony of carols and jingles during the holiday season is enough to make even the most festive among us get a little stressed out. Steven Seagal is a man of many talents, and everyone knows he's a martial artist, a movie star, and a producer. But in addition to those things he is also an experienced law enforcement officer, a musician, a director, and a writer. But really, what we love best about him is still the acting. Seagal is a tough, straightforward, no-nonsense guy who plays direct, serious, and pragmatic characters, but he still has the chops to make it through just about any type of scene. We've put together a collection of photographs displaying Seagal's emotional range, and it's nothing short of impressive. For even more Seagal action on Reelz be sure to watch Steven Seagal: Lawman Thursdays at 11pm Et/Pt and catch True Justice weekdays at 1pm Et/Pt.

There's no doubt about it; actor Steven Seagal has more than a few things in common with his True Justice character Elijah Kane. They're both martial artists as well as expert marksmen, and they're both well versed in alternative medicine. In an episode of True Justice season two, Kane concocts an antibiotic tea to help Sarah ward off an infection. In this week's episode of the reality series Lawman, Seagal's knowledge of Chinese medicine similarly helps a wounded officer. After a lengthy chase, one of Seagal's fellow cops is suffering from a knee injury, and Seagal steps in and takes him to an acupuncturist. Though the officer is skeptical, he comes to believe in the powers of alternative medicine.

Steven Seagal is a martial-arts expert, an action-movie star, and a real-life law enforcement official, but this tough guy is facing an atypical adversary in tonight's episode of Steven Seagal: Lawman. So what kind of bad guy is Seagal up against? It turns out that there's two of them, but luckily it looks like these two canines are good boys — not bad guys. The challenge is getting his two new guard dogs working together, which could prove to be more difficult than putting real-life baddies behind bars.

I love The Expendables franchise like I love Bruce Willis’s beautiful bald head: with no bounds. What is there not to love about sexagenarians hopped up on steroids blowing stuff up by the sheer force of their masculinity? No, seriously: The Expendables rocks. The Expendables 2 was equally awesome, and of course I have nothing but high hopes for The Expendables 3. If man behind the explosions, Sylvester Stallone, has anything to say about it, we’ll soon be adding one more badass to our badass list.
Stallone recently Tweeted that he’s been speaking to ‘Steven S.’ about The Expendables 3, which Mr. S. is totally into, ‘if the part fits.’ Steven S., in all likelihood, is none other than perhaps the only badass not to get in on the action yet: Steven Seagal. Phoenix -- The self-proclaimed "America's Toughest Sheriff" is joining forces this weekend with action movie star Steven Seagal to train volunteer armed posse members to defend Phoenix-area schools against gunmen.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced the controversial plan in the wake of the December Newtown, Conn., school shooting that left 27 people dead, including the gunman and 20 first-graders.
The exercise is planned for Saturday at a closed school site in suburban Fountain Hills outside Phoenix where sheriff's Swat members will act as shooters and 25 teenagers will play the part of students during mock scenarios involving up to three gunmen.
Seagal, best known for his roles in movies such as "Above the Law" and "Under Siege," will lead training on hand-to-hand defense tactics, among other techniques, drawing from his expertise in martial arts, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Chicago – Vern started his career as one of those snarky critics who wrote in to Harry Knowles’ landmark and influential movie website Ain’t It Cool News. He became a regular writer for the site and his work there turned him into a very unorthodox author. His first book was a fantastic examination of, believe it or not, the career of Steven Seagal. Newly updated with a dozen new chapters about the recent adventures of his subject matter (the first printing was in 2008), “Seagalogy: A Study of the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal” is a funny, clever read for fans of the unusual action star and those who have never seen one of his movies. Vern’s movie-loving, smart, enjoyable writing makes this a more entertaining experience than Seagal himself has ever produced.
Don’t worry. This is not tongue-in-cheek nonsense. To say that Vern takes his subject matter seriously would be a Massive understatement.

Seagal Hit With Lawsuit Over Reality Show
Actor Steven Seagal has been hit with a new lawsuit for allegedly arresting an Arizona man for TV ratings.
The Under Siege star, who is a reserve deputy sheriff, was filming an episode of Steven Seagal: Lawman in March, 2011, when he allegedly helped raid the home of Jesus Llovera, who was believed to be raising fighting roosters, which is a felony.
Cops carried out a search of the man's property and then arrested the Phoenix resident after finding dangerous accessories and more than 100 chickens. He was later charged with raising animals for cockfighting and illegal possession of veterinary drugs.
Llovera has maintained his innocence, insisting he raised the roosters for show, and on Tuesday he filed a civil lawsuit against Seagal and members of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, claiming his arrest was staged to make good television.
Llovera, who is seeking unspecified damages, tells local publication Az Central, "What they showed up for was to make a show, and they made one."
The episode in question was set to air in America on 4 January but the show's third season was pulled.
The Under Siege star, who is a reserve deputy sheriff, was filming an episode of Steven Seagal: Lawman in March, 2011, when he allegedly helped raid the home of Jesus Llovera, who was believed to be raising fighting roosters, which is a felony.

It looks like the lawman is going to need a lawyer. Onetime big-screen action hero Steven Seagal is being sued by a Phoenix man who claims his arrest in 2011 was staged for the star's A&E reality show, Steven Seagal: Lawman, which follows the 60-year-old actor as he works as a deputized officer. In his suit filed against Seagal as well as the Sheriff's Office, Jesus Llovera insists that the raid on his home over suspicions he was raising roosters for fighting was unlawful, claiming the animals were merely pets, according to the Arizona Republic. Llovera adds that the raid and his subsequent arrest were orchestrated for Seagal's show. As he was handcuffed and taken outside, Llovera saw Seagal,...

This story isn’t as ridiculous as the title implies. Oh wait… it totally is. While filming the next season of Steven Seagal: Lawman, the martial arts master teamed up with Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio — himself no stranger to reality television — to raid the house of alleged cockfighter Jesus Llovera. According to The Onion Av Club, Seagal commandeered a Swat tank and led dozens of officers in riot gear into the house, where they set off explosives, basically ripped apart the house from the outside in, and killed about 100 chickens in the process. Also a casualty of the raid: Llovera’s 11-month-old puppy.

That’s a photograph of Sheriff Deputy Steven Seagal being sworn in, and it isn’t for his television show Steven Seagal: Lawman. In news that unexpectedly made us crack up because this is so “action star in real life” of him, Seagal has been officially sworn in as a border sheriff in Hudspeth County, Texas! So if anyone’s looking to make their way into the U.S in not entirely legal ways … watch out! He has a gun and he ain’t afraid to use it.
Could this be a publicity stunt to boost the show? According to the sheriff’s department the answer’s hell no. He’s just doing his duty as a law-abidin’ citizen and watching that Mexico border! An official rep has sprung to his rescue with regards to the intent of the move saying, “It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal...

Don't mess with Texas—especially since they've brought in Steven Seagal for backup. The onetime action hero has been tapped to police the U.S.-Mexico border as a full-time deputy with the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department deep in the heart of Texas. So will Seagal's new gig be featured on his A&E reality series, Steven Seagal: Lawman? Doesn't sound like it. According to the San Antonio Express, the Above the Law star called the department two months ago to lobby for the job—and not because he was in search of new storylines. After being sworn in this week, he will now join a contingent of deputies patrolling 98 miles of border and 5,500 square miles on the...

Steven Seagal is no longer Above the Law. He is the law. (By the way, how is that not the tagline for the action-star-turned-sheriff’s A&E series Steven Seagal: Lawman?)
The 59-year-old, who has been a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana for 20 years, will now reportedly use his skills (he also has a 7th-degree black belt in Aikido) to work border control in Texas. (That’s right, Chuck Norris, he’s officially on your turf! Fight! Fight! Fight!)

According to the Associated Press, actor Steven Seagal and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have denied accusations by a Phoenix man and his lawyer that a family pet was killed during a raid filmed for Seagal's reality TV show.
TMZ earlier reported that Seagal took part in a March 9 raid on the home of Jesus Llovera for his A&E show, 'Steven Seagal: Lawman.'
Llovera alleges that Seagal arrived at his home with a tank, which he rammed into a gate on his property, and that an 11-month-old puppy was killed during the raid along with 100 roosters.
Seagal said he's outraged by the allegation, and Sheriff Arpaio said it is without merit. "If my deputies, or posse man Seagal for that matter, had done something so awful like shooting a family dog, then where are the photos to prove it?" Arpaio asked.

Seagal Denies Puppy Killing Reports
Action man Steven Seagal has called in his lawyers following allegations a puppy was shot dead during a dramatic police raid filmed for his reality TV show.
The Under Siege star joined officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department in the March bust on Jesus Sanchez Llovera's Arizona property because they believed he was breeding roosters for illegal cockfighting.
Llovera has denied the claims and blamed cops for causing "substantial damage" to his family home and killing his kids' 11-month-old puppy and more than 100 of his roosters.
Seagal and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have both been served with an official notice of claim, the first steps towards a lawsuit, with Llovera demanding $100,000 (£62,500) in damages.
But the action man has hit back at Llovera, admitting he may sue him for "fabricating the puppy killing" rumour.
He tells TMZ.com, "I’ve been called a lot of things in my career, some of them not so kind. But to be labeled an animal abuser is beyond the pale and that is simply a role I will not accept."
The incident was caught on camera for the upcoming season of the martial arts star's reality show, Steven Seagal: Lawman.

Seagal Facing Lawsuit Over Deadly Police Raid
Action man Steven Seagal is facing legal action over a puppy which was allegedly shot dead during a dramatic police raid filmed for his reality TV show.
The Under Siege star and officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department took part in the March bust on Jesus Sanchez Llovera's property in Arizona following allegations he was running an illegal cockfighting farm.
Llovera has denied the claims and alleges cops caused "substantial damage" to his family home when they performed the "unfounded" raid, reportedly killing his kids' 11-month-old puppy and more than 100 of his roosters, which he insists are only "for show".
The whole incident was caught on camera for the upcoming season of the martial arts star's reality show, Steven Seagal: Lawman.
Seagal and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio have both been served with an official notice of claim, the first steps towards a lawsuit, with Llovera demanding $100,000 (£62,500) in damages.
He also wants Seagal to issue a "formal written apology" addressed to his children for their pet's tragic death, reports TMZ.com.
Seagal was invited to patrol the streets of Phoenix with Sheriff Arpaio in April.

Things got heavy -- literally -- during the TCA Cable Press Tour last week when Eric Esch (better known as the 400 pound heavyweight boxer Butterbean) took the stage to discuss his new series, "Big Law: Deputy Butterbean." In the reality TV show, Esch, who has been deputized by the Walker County Sheriff's office, partners with fellow deputy Adam Hadder to bust bad guys in and around his hometown of Jasper, Alabama. When one journalist wondered if Steven Seagal's short-lived show, "Steven Seagal: Lawman" was an inspiration, though, that idea was quickly smacked to the matt. Though producer Lorri Leighton dodged...

True Justice: Street Wars sees the Aikido 7th dan and musical actor extravaganza return to the screen. This is a return from real life drama Steven Seagal: Lawman back to the fictitious world of the undercover drugs cop. If you are fan of Steven Seagal you will be delighted to see that he's working at developing a thirteen-part series for True Justice. Street Wars is another two-part film and actually follows on from the opening two episodes of Deadly Crossing. This is the first time Seagal fans get to see him within a TV series, a successful move made by other movie martial artist actors such as Chuck Norris in Walker Texas Ranger (which I remember to be okay for its time.) Last year Chuck turned seventy and was actually made an honorary Ranger in real life. Seagal also has real police experience, having been a reserve deputy chief for Jefferson Parish in Louisina.

Seagal Back On The Force As Arizona's Top Cop Calls Him Up As Deputy
Movie star Steven Seagal has joined Arizona's top cop as part of his hardcore law force.
The Under Siege star has been invited to patrol the streets of Phoenix with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's lawmen, and he admits he jumped at the chance to serve as a deputy.
Seagal tells the Globe, "When Joe invited me to join them, there wasn't a moment's hesitation."
Arpaio insists the actor and martial arts star will be an "asset" to his team.
Seagal will also film his experiences on the job as a deputy for the new season of his hit show Steven Seagal: Lawman.
He filmed two seasons of the reality show in Lousiana, but the series was put on hold after the actor was accused of sexually harassing an assistant last year. She has since dropped her charges against Seagal.

PopWatchers, no matter how hard you try, you’ll never be able to see the TV comedy called Chicks and D—. That’s because the in-development series — about a Midwestern woman who moves in with three immature men — won’t be called that. Written by Liz Meriwether (who penned the script for Friends With Benefits, and titled it F—buddies), the series will get a name change before hitting the small screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And while a title is an important part of a show’s sell, struggling with one isn’t necessarily a good or bad omen.

The biggest thing happening on TV today is the rescue of the Chilean miners who have been trapped underground since August 5th. It's been going on since late last night and will probably take hours more, since they seem to be getting out one miner per hour. As of the time I'm writing this, they've just gotten the 13th miner out so there's about 20 to go, plus the rescue workers they sent down to check on the remaining miners. The worst part of the whole thing so far, for me, is the American coverage. Last night one of the American reporters on the scene compared the situation to an American football game, and there have been multiple comparisons to the moon landing. Because nothing can be something awesome and inspiring on it's own, we have to find some sort of comparison because otherwise viewers won't understand the sheer magnitude of...

We're into the Mlb postseason which I'm sure means something out there to some of you, but it means absolutely nothing to me. I've been known to watch baseball live, but watching it on TV does absolutely nothing for me, and the intricacies of the stats just makes my eyes glaze over and I feel like a bad American. Still, it's happening for those of you out there who want to watch and if you've got the time to get down to Tampa Bay, last I heard was the Devil Rays were literally giving away tickets to try and fill their stands since they have absolutely no fan base, so you could get a chance to see a division playoff game on the cheap. Although you probably don't want to go to Tampa anyway, I haven't heard great things. Here's tonight's game and the rest of Wednesday night TV:
