Back in the UK, Neil Dudgeon has well and truly established himself as the face of Midsomer Murders. Now fans of the show in the U.S. can get their first look at the man who replaced John Nettles (remember him?) with the release of Acorn Media’s Midsomer Murders set 21. The four stories in this four-disc set were aired in the UK just last year and have never been broadcast on U.S. TV.
Death in the Slow Lane is the first feature length story in Midsomer Murders set 21. The episode begins with John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) arriving in Britain’s most dangerous village as the heir apparent to his cousin Tom. DS Jones (Jason Hughes) isn’t exactly enamored with his new Dci who mocks his attempts to restore an old race car. Their differences are quickly forgotten when...

Foyle's War
By Kieran Kinsella
Earlier this year Acorn Media bought the rights to the British detective series Foyle’s War. The cast and crew are currently working on a new series of the war time drama but in the interim Acorn Media have put together a new DVD box set of the Best of Foyle’s War.
The show centers around Detective Chief Inspector Foyle who is doing his best ignore the ravages of war and focus on solving grizzly crimes. Michael Kitchen plays the lead role and he is in the mold of classic British actors and he is well suited to playing the stiff upper lipped Dci Foyle. Kitchen apparently selected the six stories that are featured in the six disc set. The cast involvement in the DVD doesn’t end there. Kitchen’s cast mates Honeysuckle Weeks and Anthony Howell both sat down with Acorn for...

On 28 February North American fans of British TV can get their hands on two new Acorn Media DVD releases:French Fields and The Brief. Fans of PBS may be familiar with the former while the latter was an ITV show that was produced by the Inspector Morse team. Both offer great value for money and we were fortunate enough to get a sneak peak at both of these box sets.
French Fields
The late Anton Rodgers was a much loved funny man who made his name relatively late in life when he starred in the popular sitcom Fresh Fields alongside Miss Marple star Julia McKenzie. French Fields is a hilarious spin-off from that show in which accountant William (Rodgers) and...

It seems like only yesterday that the BBC in their infinite wisdom decided to cancel the East End based hospital drama Casualty 1909 so that money could be set aside for a big budget sci-fi drama called Outcasts. Well things didn’t quite go to plan for the BBC and Outcasts turned out to be the biggest white elephant since Babar and lo and behold here we all are again watching a new East End based hospital costume drama. I’ll admit that I am a militant Casualty 1909 fanatic but I won’t let my bitterness about the demise of that show cloud my judgement when reviewing this quality piece of drama.

When you talk about TV doctors, many people immediately think of Richard Chamberlain. However, doctors have always been a major feature of TV shows on this side of the Atlantic and to honor the men and women who monitor the health of our favorite fictional characters, here are the Best British TV Doctors.
Dr Finlay (Bill Simpson) in Dr Finlay’s Casebook. Set in the Scottish town of Tannochbrae, Dr Finlay’s Casebook was first broadcast 49 years ago and even at that time Dr Finlay was something of a throwback to simpler times. Despite his small town surroundings, he valiantly fought against all kinds of ills that included his nutty housekeeper and a pernicious rival.
Doc Martin (Martin Clunes) in Doc Martin. Martin Clunes is not behaving as...

The second installment of Matthew Graham’s two parter got off to a promising start as we were introduced to the doppleganger of the Doctor. The two Doctors (unbeknown to Amy Pond) switched shoes and conducted an improptu experiment to see whether everyone else would be able to tell the real Timelord from the fake. No one could. Meanwhile, Casualty 1909 star Sarah Smart went on the rampage as the deranged doppleganger Jennifer and caused her real self to be killed much to the chagrin of her unwitting accomplice, Rory. Meanwhile all of the other dopplegangers and humans gradually started to make friends although Marshall Lancester had a disappointingly small role both as a human and a ganger. The real Steve was killed but the ganger Jimmy decided to...

Sci-Fi fans of Britain, your wait is nearly over! With Doctor Who taking something of a hiatus over the Summer, your appetites now rely solely on the five part miniseries of the popular spin-off known as “Torchwood: Children of the Earth”.
Well thankfully the BBC have now released their schedule for week 27, and I’ll give you three guesses as to what has been found on the listings…
That’s right, Torchwood: Children of Earth Will be broadcast week commencing Saturday 4th July, meaning you only have two weeks before Captain Jack Harkness and what remains of his team combat a sinister new threat!
Check out the official BBC synopsis below, along with a fantastic new trailer And for extra suspense, I’ve thrown in the preview for the Doctor’s triumphant return coming this November…
