Murder By the Coast, Netflix's latest true-crime offering, breaks down the horrific killing of 19-year-old Rocío Wanninkhof in Spain in 1999. The other major story in the murder documentary follows the relationship between María Dolores "Loli" Vázquez and Alicia Hornos, Wanninkhof's mother. Despite very little evidence tying her to the case, the former became the number one suspect for Wanninkhof's murder. Though no concrete evidence tied Vázquez to the investigation, the media and prosecution team hyped up gossip around her sexuality to make her appear guilty. Vázquez was eventually convicted in 2001 by a jury trial, but the case against her closed after Spanish authorities found Wanninkhof's actual killer.
When Was Vázquez Involved With Alicia Hornos?
For over a decade, Vázquez essentially helped raise Wanninkhof and her siblings, entering a relationship with Hornos in 1982. When Hornos separated from her Dutch husband, she and Vázquez bought a house together, staying as a...

Netflix's Murder by the Coast adds two more dark and tragic murder cases into the streaming service's expansive true-crime library. This time, the story takes us to Spain in 1999 and 2003, linking the deaths of 19-year-old Rocío Wanninkhof and 17-year-old Sonia Carabantes. When it broke, Wanninkhof's case received extensive and scandalous coverage, and the masses and courts pinned her murder on one person: María Dolores "Loli" Vázquez, the former lover of Wanninkhof's mother, Alicia Hornos. While the media targeted Vázquez, concrete forensic evidence eventually uncovered the actual killer: Tony Alexander King, who was also known as the Holloway Strangler in England.
The story began in Oct. 1999 in Costa del Sol. Wanninkhof had left her boyfriend's house, planning to get ready at home before meeting up with their friends at a fair in Fuengirola. Wanninkhof, who made her way home by foot, never showed up and seemingly vanished. As police and locals searched for her,...

Netflix has been quietly expanding their anime offerings for awhile now but June is a particularly anime-heavy month. The absolutely metal sounding Record of Ragnarok arrives this month. So too do parts 1 and 2 of the newest Sailor Moon film on June 3 and Godzilla Singular Point on June 24.
