Kitty is superb
jiballini6426 May 2021
I giggled through this whole series. Binge watched all 6 episodes in one night. Typical understated Aussie humour.

If you're looking for canned laughter and "obvious" humour, this is NOT the show for you.

I can't wait for Season 2.

Very funny!

I haven't watched much of Kitty Flanagan's comedy work before this, and I have really been missing out!

This show is well-written and performed. It's very witty and many of the characters resemble folks we've all met in our daily lives.

I don't live in Aus and only found out about this show by chance. I recommend it to all. Hunt it down and enjoy!

This is such a gem of a series. The writing is so clever and the characters are all nuanced and get better with each episode. Kitty and Penny have done a brilliant job writing this wonderful show. Don't miss it.

Where is Season 2 ....... and 3 ............ and 4 ???
thejdrage12 August 2023
This is one of the funniest 6 episodes I have ever watched. Helen says things we want to say and she lives with the consequences. She meets people we have met (or who we are) and she pivots to smooth their road even if it makes her life rockier.

Like us, she has a dog that grounds her and family that makes her as crazy as the people around her.

As usual - it's the Aussies who give us absolutely the best and funniest series. When will we learn to just tune in to them and let them take over our electronic world.

If you need some smart (intelligent), funny, honest humor in your insane (American) life, this is the series for you.

Enjoy!

I was going to write that it's as good as as Rosehaven - but it's actually better. Very clever Aussie humour. A lucky find!

Great Fun
GB651 January 2024
With 'Colin From Accounts' hopefully getting a second series, the Aussie comedies coming to the UK at the moment are from a rich vein of humour. I love the sarcasm in this especially from the title character, boss Ray has a brilliant nonchalance bordering on incompetence, Roz is just the right side of the likeable/unlikeable line and George is played wonderfully, mixing an unlikeable, modern woke-ness with a fine level of dimwittedness. The running jokes are funny and each weekly story is hilarious. More please from the land Down Under. I sincerely hope we're very a third series. Kitty Flanagan is a brilliant comedy actress and writer. I'd love to see more from her.

What am I watching?!
brian_spence_ni9 August 2023
This show might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I'e had so many laugh out loud moments watching it. It's simply the most preposterous thing I've ever seen, and I don't wanna stop seeing it.

I will say, i'm a bit of a slave to american tv for prodcution quality and i rarely give Australian shows the chance they probably deserve but, about 5 minutes in on this one I realised I'd no choice. If you suffer from an incredibly dark sense of humour or are sick then you'll spend every episode in raptures. It's just such an unexpected, out of the blue good show. Give it a whirl and enjoy! Magic

Deadpan!!!

I'm on ep 6 and really liking this new Australian series.
Opinate5 April 2021
A funny sitcom from Ozzieland with buckets of character.

It is a little "The Office" but better - I could never get through most of the UK office and none of the American ones mostly because of the obnoxious camera work.

There is some ridiculous camera work in this series, mostly in the first and second episodes, then it settles in to let the actors do their job.

It's a funny, lighthearted comedy of mismatched offbeat characters that gets better the more you watch. Not always laugh-out-loud, but quirky and fun. Feels like just what I need right now.

Liked it

This is a smart, goofy comedy about a relatable, awkward Aussie lawyer ("solicitor") who knows what she's doing but doesn't know how to behave, or does and refuses. It's hard to tell if she's smart and patronizing or just not really bright, but she's unusual and funny. I enjoyed it and hope it will gel a bit more for an even better second round. Recommended!

Laughed harder than I expected with this dryly delivered comedy.
cgvsluis14 August 2023
Kitty Flanagan is fantastic as Helen Tudor-Fisk in this dry comedy. Ostensibly the show is about healing and moving on as Helen's significant other has left her for an older woman and she is starting a new job in a shabby suburban law firm Gruber and Gruber, where they specialize in Wills and Probate.

Each character brings their own special comedy to the show and in the end it is a very well rounded ensemble.

I have only seen the first season so far, but I laughed munch more than I expected and I can't wait to see what season two has in store for me. I related to the very real nature of the struggles portrayed...from being kicked out of the closest coffee shop to her ex wanting to take back her dog. This is one of the more relatable comedies out there.

Just watch it

If you live in the real world, and you're not a dreamer, you will find this series to be hilarious! I am the type of person who is not entertained by the silly cheesy stuff. I am entertained by the relatable real life sh** show that we deal with on a daily basis, and if we can find a way to turn that into humor, it lightens everything up a bit! If you feel the same way you will enjoy the series! I cannot wait for episode two!

the wit of kitty flanagan
ksf-23 December 2023
From our friends down under! Seems to be a project from the talented kitty flanagan. When helen gets dumped, she takes a job at a small, lesser known legal firm. Where everything that can go wrong.... does go wrong. It's pretty funny! It's all about timing. Ensemble show, where everyone gets to be funny. Fun bit where the office manager labels every single thing in the office with a label maker. Helen's own dad has gone nuts. And has married a guy who is just as nuts. She's the aussie version of patsy fr om Ab Fab! Clever jokes, irony. Season two just released on netflix! Funny stuff. In short, 25 minute segments, for two seasons so far. Very clever script. Although I personally thought season one was more clever than season two. The writing for season two seemed to lack the wit and wisdom of season one.

Not impressed
RandomTard6 August 2021
This is not a bad show, but it surely isn't a masterpiece either. It's a comedy that isn't really that funny and the characters are all so awkward it's doesn't feel realistic. But it's watchable if there's nothing better on.

Australian Comedy Choice Winner
leoalexanderscott20 June 2021
When I was first introduced to Kitty Flanagan on a commerical current affair show where she did short comedical reviews, I could not stand her! But then I discovered she was in fact a talented stand up comedian by attending some of her acts, followed by watching a few more online stand ups. A new tv show, and I hesitantly watched. Back by other great australian comedian actors and some very funny, cheeky and honest perspective of society dialogue, Kitty fitted like a glove. Sadly though, the first series is only 6 episode long and been no news of renewal. Thanks largely to ABC, there been a wealth of short-lived great Australian comedies in recent years. If only some stream services picked them up to go further. Fisk would be a bread rating winner.

Whatever this is...
Wife and I stumbled across this series and thought, why not? Glad we did. Took a period of adjustment though. We live in the US. In Connecticut. Our connection with Australia, it's people and their humor is non-existent. So, the pacing, outlook and phrasing of the show seemed...well...foreign. Fortunately, Kitty Flannigan is ingratiatingly quirky enough to pull us through and then in to the series. She's the show. Her reactions to the everyday crap she encounters are human and full of humor. This is not highbrow stuff. But it is thoughtful and seen through the eyes of a flawed, coping fellow human. So, it's relatable. And funny. Sometimes hilarious. And, yes, still a tad confusing. But worth the watch.

Great Aussie comedy !
lucienm-6032126 October 2022
Great script / screenplay delivered so well by a wonderful cast !

Love the location on a Melville tram line street in Melbourne inner suburbs.

The series is unpretentious with simple stories of eclectic ordinary people bringing their petty legal problems to this very small legal practice.

Always funny sides to their stories!

In the office, "Helen" the lawyer is actually the only one working, all the other characters are too busy making life difficult for Helen!

Each episode is about 25 minutes and before you know it, you have been enjoying an entertaining time !

Congratulations on ABC for this wonderful Aussie comedy!

Can't wait to watch the next episode !

I've just seen the first episode and loved it.

I don't know if it has been deliberately written as autistic friendly but Fisk displays so many traits it is uncanny.

Good acting, poor writing
jamesmoule2 April 2021
Kitty Flanagan is an enigmatic actor who tells us little about her personal background. Those who watched "Utopia" will know what a great character actor she can be, with good direction and a good script. Unfortunately, "Fisk" does not have a good script and this must be blamed on Flanagan who is listed as one of the writers, with another Flanagan, (perhaps a sister?) sharing the indiscretion.

I have watched Kitty Flanagan do her stand-up routine. It is one of those modern routines that relies on smut in the mistaken belief that a modern audience will be tickled by crudity. "She writes her own material" is usually an indication that the result will be poorer than if the material were provided by a professional comedy writer. "Fisk" is no exception.

The situation for this sit-com is novel and promising. It has "MELBOURNE" written all over it (so Sydney people will not find it half as funny - think Graham Kennedy). The supporting cast is strong, excepting for the token Asian actor, Aaron Chen, who really is out of his depth. Why is Julia Zemiro wearing a fat suit?

I would like this series to succeed because I have so much respect for Flanagan's talent but I fear that it is not going to get any better (having watched three episodes).

Quirky and Fun
soraneko-523066 August 2023
I was hooked immediately and marathoned S1 in one afternoon. The characters, especially Fisk, are quirky and original. My favorites were the grandmother Airbnb owner, the portrait painter, and the klepto mother and daughter. They have their own weaknesses, foibles, and strengths, and their interactions are unpredictable; at times hilarious, ridiculous, and yes, tender. I agree that the first episodes were the strongest.

As the season progresses it's good to see Fisk develop her professional skills as well as her ability to relate to other people including her family, coworkers, and clients. She also gains a clearer perspective of herself.

So sad only one season a GREAT show
moviemom2326 November 2023
I am American and usually hate comedy tv and sitcoms. This show is not your typical comedy/sitcom. Helen is a QUEEN. A relatable introvert who is as grumpy as she is lovable. I am just so sad only one season!

Don't listen to the bad reviews- do people not have a sense of humor anymore? Do they need to be absolutely bashed over the head and explained everything?

The best thing about this show is its not the typical annoying modern show that tries too hard. The characters are hilarious and we all know a "Roz" or "George" at the office! I even love Helen's dog. The scenery is beautiful too - its making me want to move to Brisbane, is it? The gingerbread cottage her Aunt May lives in is just precious.

Again, I am super sad this show's over- I almost felt like I knew all these kooky people. I will miss them all!

First two episodes were not very good
djdickson-46-92414418 August 2023
The humor is broad and about as subtle as a kangaroo kick to the jaw. Some cringe humor, some crank humor, but long stretches of lame and lazy attempts at humor that just don't land. If someone who paints portraits with his genitals sounds like your idea of hilarity, then this might be the show for you.

We made it through the first two episodes and quit without a second thought. Five stars might be generous, but it wasn't Mama's Family bad.

The premise was promising, but the acting is mixed and the writing is just standard-issue mediocre sitcom stuff. If you want a genuinely funny series in the same general vein, try The Grinder-- a criminally underrated series.

Hilarious show
cglamb-118 August 2023
As an American, I've never heard of any of these actors before but every one is drop dead funny. Top notch writing and characters, just a delightful show. If you liked The Office (British or American version) or deadpan but heartfelt and heightened humor like Flight of the Conchords, you'll like this.

Fast paced with enough mysteries (why did Roz get suspended?) sprinkled in to keep you listening closely even as the jokes come flying in. The best part is how creator/writer/star Flanagan gives Helen unexpected depths so she isn't just obnoxious or curmudgeonly or down on her luck--she learns and changes and adjusts to different people, all of which is a joy to watch.

FISK Season 1 ABC Australia: TOTAL WINNER
Padmafrench2 April 2021
FISK is grouse. It's the small details, the big details, the medium details. It's Fisk, (Kitty Genius Fanagan), stomping around in her hideous, yet surprisingly poignant, baby-poo-coloured business attire; it's Roz Gruber (Julia Magnifique Zemiro), as the pass-agg, puffed-up, pretentious, part-owner; it's Ray Gruber (Marty Drop-Dead-Funny Sheargold), as the congenial, part-owner and it's George (Aaron HilAIRious Chen) as the endearingly inept, blindly confident recpetionist/webmaster - all gold-class comedians. The 'FIFO' talent is also top shelf, as is the writing and just - all the other stuff. Gives me my faith back in humanity (a fair bit).

Anyway ABC Aust - you may as well get the next 20 seasons on the go right now because I reckon you're gonna need them. Go Fisky!

gce230822 May 2021
That's how Fisk tracked for me over the 6 episodes.

Got funnier and funnier towards the end.

Finished up loving it.

Julia I like more and more, and she's a great actress too!!! Who knew?!

I have ALWAYS loved both Kitty and Julia - and in this they are just wonderful.
