What a funny name for a band
dtucker864 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There is always a comic element on every episode of Room 222 (most of them involve Alice). However, in this case it involves Mister Kaufman being out of touch with modern music (especially how loud it is!). Mel is the lead singer in the band who is torn between his love of music and his dream of being a teacher. The obnoxious manager of the group just cares about fame and money and not a whit about Mel. Pete is normally very easygoing but talking to this man pushes him to the brink where he wants to literally knock some sense into him. Mel's parents are a couple of airheads who should never have become parents. Mel finally stands up for himself and takes charge of his life in the end. What a great kid. He even agrees to go on a fishing trip with Alice!

Music Career Or Teaching?
Jimmy_the_Gent42 February 2021
Mel Wertz, a student who is the leader of an up and coming rock band, is conflicted about leaving school and giving up his dream of a teaching career.

An OK episode. Gino Conforti has a guest role as an obnoxious manager of the group. He wants to take Mel and the band to Nashville and sign a contract. Kaufman has a funny scene when his quiet time playing the piano is interrupted by the band. Mel is played by Jack Bender, he would have a memorable appearance as a hippie on the "All In The Family" episode "Mike's Hippie Friends Come To Visit".
