Good old Mister Kaufman
dtucker863 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Being a school administrator is a whale of a lot harder then being a teacher and Mister Kaufman has this unenviable task. He usually handles his duties with masterful aplomb but in this episode he has come to the end of his rope with all the headaches he has to endure from having to reorder school supplies to finding out a student he tried to help has been arrested. He throws up his hands in utter despair and announces that he is taking a years sabbatical. Pete tries to give him one of his famous pep talks and the students throw him a wonderful surprise party and I think its only then he realizes how much they love him. What brings him back is learning he is being replaced by a martinet who would have made a great prison warden or concentration camp guard. In the end, he reads Pete a letter he wrote to his son urging him not to quit the peace corps admitting he has to eat his own words.

Kaufman Wants To Quit
Jimmy_the_Gent421 February 2021
Mr Kaufman is fed up with budget cuts and red tape and thinks about resigning.

One of the best Kaufman episodes and excellent performance by Michael Constantine. He is very frustrated with his job, especially when he tries to help a troubled student who wants to come back to Whitman when he is put in another school with bad influences. Kaufman decides to take a year sabbatical to think about what he will do next. Jay Robinson (he played the villainous Caligula in the 1953 film "The Robe" ) plays the rigid principal who will replace Kaufman.
