- The episode starts with clips from Nolan, West and Chen at the Police Academy and a speech by Captain Andersen.
Back in the now, Lucy and Jackson celebrate their first day as P2's when Ben comes to visit, not knowing that Nolan was held back. He surprises John with the news that his son, Henry, has gotten a job with him and plans to drop out of college. John tries to confront Henry during roll-call but Grey stops the call. Grey pairs Lucy and Jackson together for their first day which they enjoy by doing stuff Angela and Tim never let them do. However, their first call is frustrating, forcing them to guard a half-eaten chocolate bar which might be a piece of evidence.
Meanwhile, Harper tells Nolan about a camping trip she agreed to chaperon which Alonzo, the music teacher she tried to go out with, is going to be on as well. She is afraid he revenge canceled on her but asks Nolan for camping equipment anyway. They get a call about a possible bank robbery in progress. Nolan manages to talk the bank robber down but the bank's guard shoots him before he can surrender.
Tim is trying to train his dog when he gets a "911" text from the frustrated Angela trying on dresses. He comes to her rescue and tells her to pick whatever she wants and not what her future in-laws and bridesmaids think.
Nolan and Harper visit the dead guy's house, finding him living in luxury but no trace of his wife or daughter, surmising they might have been kidnapped to force him to rob the bank. Harper tells Nolan to let the detectives do their job.
Lucy is cooking dinner for her parents to celebrate while Jackson is going out with his folks. Lucy's mother confronts her that she should not waste her life as a cop and Lucy throws her out. On the camping trip, Harper realizes that Alonzo did not revenge cancel but she canceled the last time and asks him out again.
John confronts Ben about giving Henry a job. Ben defends himself that Henry got the job fair and square but would offer John a high-paying job in an instant since they are friends. John cancels his dinner plans with Ben because he thinks Ben will give Henry a false impression about how easy it is to make money in the real life. Angela and Tim are trying wedding cakes and he again tells her to choose what she wants. She asks him to be his "man of honor" to deal with her family and in-laws with the first job being to fire her current maid of honor (who is happy to be fired since the mother-in-law is terrorizing her).
Nolan tells Harper he found out that the bank robber's wife works in the diamond district and convinces her to do their job there so he can ask around. When trying to see her boss, he notices the same Pizza van parked in front that also parked in front of the bank and sees the wife exit. When he confronts her, she tells her that she has to steal diamonds or they will kill her daughter. Nolan asks her to describe the details of the trip there to Lucy and Jackson who use their gained knowledge of LA to narrow down the house the daughter is held in. Meanwhile, Harper stops a car in front of the kidnappers waiting in the van to buy them some time.
Lucy and Jackson manage to identify the house thanks to their training and arrest the third kidnapper and rescue the daughter. Nolan and Harper arrest the other two. Back at the station, Grey congratulates Lucy and Jackson and notes that he will put them forward for a medal. Tim lets Angela ceremoniously burn the wedding planning material her mother-in-law wanted. Harper tells Nolan about her date and Jackson gives Lucy a medallion of St. Michael from his parents. John visits Ben in his office and apologizes for his reaction, realizing that Henry has to make his own choices.
