Excellent ending
jjsoltis7 November 2021
I won't give it away. Watch the entire series even though you get impatient or bored. The ending is worth it. I wonder if there will be another season.

Good job writers.

Bloody good show
jaimemedina-3628823 September 2021
It's intense, gritty, stylish, and cleverly written. There's a whole crew of fresh faces, and a few very welcome familiar ones. Expertly done!!

Great second season
julietharper24 November 2023
I personally thought the second season was better than the first. The character of Bren brought this series to life and made it much more gritty. I wasn't keen on the relationship with Michael and his estranged daughter in either season. The acting and dialogue just wasn't working and was slow and repetitive. Ciaran Hinds in the first season was also good and the camera screen just loves his presence. Obviously can't go into details with the storylines because it will spoil this but I thought the character of Eric also did a great Job in both seasons. Overall I preferred the second season of this series.

Fiction? - NOT!
business_kid13 April 2023
I lived nearly all of my life in Dublin. They didn't have to dream this idea up, or write the plot. IT HAPPENED.

What they had to do was change things round so the script writers didn't get shot themselves. There was/is a huge gangland feud in Dublin with about 15 contract killings at least over the years. Google Hutch-Kinahan feud if you don't. The Hutch gang was a tight ship. They were the older players, built around Gerry Hutch, called "The Monk" because he only wanted non drinkers, and kept a low profile. When the Kinahans muscled in on his territory (for selling drugs) he ordered a killing, which ended being 2 killings. The Hutch gang was virtually killed off. Gerry Hutch ended doing his own killings and is going down for murder now. Everyone who isn't dead is running scared. The police have Daniel Kinahan unable to exit the UAE or some other tiny Arab State. It's been on tv here and it's too gritty for my taste by far, but you most folk would enjoy it. It got a prime time slot and went down well.

Fantastic Gangland Dublin
karlengland-9753915 February 2024
A very real and very true depiction of the crime families of inner city Dublin, families with the same three letters starting the name, KIN. The grand poetry of the word meaning family, a la cosa nostra of Sicily and other mafioso using omertà as the key to success, while selling drugs, brandishing guns, and turning on each other, KIN or no KiN.

Excellent story and character driven to the point they really do seem real. The Dublin accent works really well. The Bren character is maybe the worst human I've ever came across, making it compelling and keeps you intrigued; even to see his demise (or not)

This is the best thing the BBC has made in a while. Scorsese would be proud. Even the use of music is perfect, meaningful.

It has everything sadness, betrayal, love... and the story told like a true Irish Bard.

Definitely worth a watch

It's a great show definitely worth a watch. First irish series I've watched and definitely better than some of the other trash on the TV. I hope they make a second season and build upon it.

Hope Kin Gets A Season 2
girlslikesports6 November 2021
Many of the reviewers of Kin claimed that this series is slow, boring and blah. Not sure what show they watched but it cannot be this one! In my opinion, Kin is 1 of the BEST family crime dramas that's been done in a LONG time. The cast is excellent and the writing is stellar. If organized crime in Ireland and great Irish actors with authentic Irish accents aren't your thing, then Kin isn't your kind of show and you're REALLY missing out on 1 of the BEST SHOWS on tv!! I really hope that there's a season 2.

Kin its all in a name
celt00729 October 2021
Kin as in Kinsella a fictional Dublin crime family embroiled in a crime war . Murder, death and drugs seem to be everyday activities for this Irish clan .

A well acted crime drama with devastating violence . I read somewhere it was not based in truth but fiction. But I did read in Irish Times the big Dublin crime family is the Kinahan gang.

Kin !

Great. Finally! This is how you do it!
akira-hideyo30 October 2021
No BS, no lame excuses not to hammer another nail in when it calls for it. Pure grit, politics, internal trysts, betrayal, ego bashing, idiotic morons, Irish style gangsta fag ... Etc. Keeping it real Frank, pun intended. The season finale was sweet. Finally a feel good let all the right roaches die. There were moments throughout the series that were wee bit developing slow but those snail paces kept the atmosphere dark, weary and dead. Can't wait for season 2.

Great Performances, Formulaic Writing and Pacing.
bbevis-4795419 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Kin is a good show with decent characters and a formulaic story. The best part of the show is watching Amanda become Cersei before the seasons end. Unfortunately, there is not much room left for growth for any of the other characters. Michael is trying to be a good dad to his daughter, but we don't really learn anything about him other than he used to be called "The Magician". Not to mention we never get any sort of explanation of what happened to his wife. I feel like there should be more to that story thread. Jimmy is left to do nothing until the last episode, being put on the sideline to setup a potentially irritating love triangle. Eric is a whiny brat and deserves what he had coming to him. I almost feel sorry for Frank but again there is not much development for him for me to truly care. Birdy is potentially interesting, but we don't learn nothing about her. Eamon has one moment where we learn something about him, and it doesn't work to create sympathy for the character. The guy is an asshole and deserves what he had coming to him.

The performances from the cast for all of the characters are excellent. It's not the cast that hurts Kin the most. It's the dry-formulaic writing. Rarely anything eventful happens in eight episodes until maybe the last 15 minutes of episode 8. What kept me watching was the performances and the eagerness to see what would eventually happen at the end. Kin is good in a formulaic way if that is your thing, and it has the potential to be great in season 2. Especially with the amazing cast that it has. Hopefully that potential is realized and the pacing picks up.

Slow but worth watching
martin-lynch-713-5817157 October 2021
I was looking forward to this show, I'm from Dublin, I know all the locations especially the Church as it's the one I grew up going to.

This was written for a North American audience not an Irish or European one. It is painfully slow getting the story across, to the point that with a week between each episode you will most likely forget what happened the previous week. (Binge watching would be a good plan and make it a far better experience)

The writers obviously don't know many Irish Women, certainly none from Dublin! They are shown as subservient which believe me is the furthest thing from the truth, the vast majority of Dublin Women are far stronger than the Men in their lives. It covers every demographic possible and to be honest doesn't do very good job of it.

Despite my negative comments, I think it will turn out to be a good Show. The Cast are great and some legendary Actors do a great portrayal given the script. I've wait until episode 5 to write this, it would have been easy to make a judgment after watching the First episode but I wanted to give it a chance.

It is worth watching but, by the same token you won't be rushing home to watch it.

CAB should seize the script!!
coddinho21 October 2021
Just an awful show, feels like it was written by a fifteen year old as a school project on Dublin crime, there's no logic to it at all and the accents are all over the place.

My Cup of Noir Grit
ekelks-218 October 2021
Love this Irish family gangster revenge series. Not as needlessly bloody as Gangs of London it is subtly as lethal. Two of my favorite male actors here, Charlie Cox & Aiden Gillen, have never been 'dull' in anything, contrary to another reviewer's view. The writing's what counts, so thanks to the writers for making Amanda so wonderfully sharp and deadly.

An excellent Irish crime story
PardonTheTruth7 October 2021
This is a well-crafted tale of family, loyalty, crime and vengeance set in present day Dublin.

Clare Dunne, Aiden Gillen and Ciarán Hinds are - as always - excellent.

Surprised by the negative reviews...
bbosma-2440320 February 2024
...because this is an excellent series, with great performances, realistic action and a good plot. None of your Hollywwood ten minute fight scenes; the violence is short, sharp and decisive. The first season held my attention throughout and I looked forward to very episode, even though I could see the ending coming a mile off. (You could could look at it as the copying of a great ending to a great movie or just a nod to that movie. I wasn't sure about season two, but warned to it after the first couple of episodes. I'm not fond of endings that leave parts of the story hanging for next season, but in this case I'll forgive them because it was, otherwise, the perfect finale to the main plot line.

First Season Was Ok, Second Meanders Into Melodrama
sumtim3s00n7 October 2021
While first season had some good moments despite many completely ridiculously silly decisions and plot holes every where, it did deliver some entertainment. The writers obviously had zero knowledge or experience with the genre, I doubt they ever saw The Wire or Sopranos or if the had, they did not take notes. Average barely ok.

But second season goes completely off balance, mostly just relationship melodrama, everyone instantly become sheep, the gang/criminal story doesnt move anywhere or barely and it is all force drama. Unlike Sopranos where family life and criminal activity were in nice equilibrium.

Each season getting worse, and the first one was not good anyway, while also losing story pace, not evolving any story elements, all that is happening is almost getting to a point of an add for help line for teenagers abused and/or bullies. Simply ridiculous.

Bring back the core of the show, bring back charismatic characters that dare do stuff, bring back action and story events each episode.

Otherwise just cancel it already.

I can't get passed some terrible acting
ShaneMacGowan29 February 2024
While only more of a supporting role in the series, the character of the daughter in the Turkish crime family is abysmal - and for me it constantly detracted from the series.

Whenever she appeared in a scene I wasn't sure whether to cringe or laugh.

Her acting is woeful and she is like some caricature of a villan. I'm surprised they didn't give her a scar on her cheek or an eye patch. Her brief was obviously to play a cold and clinical crime lord, but it is so overdone it honestly felt like it was satirical.

One supporting character alone shouldn't ruin a series, but for me this one went close ....

The Good, The Bad and the unnecessary !
jfryleach6 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Overall I enjoyed this series - it's good, but it could have been a small screen classic ! Let me elaborate.

The storyline had potential - Irish crime family battles rival organisations to keep afloat and retain it's "Business" set in the photogenic city of Dublin, the cast is excellent, with the fabulous stand out performances from Clare Dunne, Charlie "Daredevil" Cox, Ciarán Hinds and Commitments star Maria Doyle Kennedy being the standouts. The negatives, well it seems to have suffered with budgetary constraints, the Kinsella gang seem to be short of gang members to run a convincing gang where their crew seem to consist of around a dozen on-screen members and their houses seem quite modest (and vulnerable) considering their income and their cover car dealership is bereft of customer and seemingly run by 2 staff members, The plot has a few annoying flaws as in when you've just stolen your main rival's complete stash of contraband I can't believe they would decide to have a party and sit around for several hours celebrating giving their victims ample time to plan their revenge and even going about their business with virtually no protection (no bodyguards or back-up) The photography is a mixed bag with some excellent sharp captures combined with numerous blurry dark scenes reminiscent of a VHS of the 1990's, the music on the whole is a compliment to the visuals barring a handful of scenes and I wish directors would hold back on the use of drones - Yes we get it, you've got drones! Now keep to the story.

Now the unnecessary.... There is nothing gained by making the head of the family a secret gay character, in-fact it's completely implausible, similarly giving Michael Kinsella (Charlie Cox) a mixed race daughter just seems odd and it looks like the producers have done this to appease their potential critics who might have complained of a lack of "diversity" In conclusion, it could have been so much more if it was given a bigger budget, more work on the storyline to fix the inconsistencies and better quality control on the visuals.

This is based on the first series as I have yet to view series two.

EDGE OF YOUR SEAT DRAMA
jt-0883315 February 2024
Absolutely brilliant a true adaptation of a crime family in Dublin, nail bitting Absolutely terrific tv. Must watch, I like how the writing is perfect it's believable that wins it over for me, the camera quality and production is top notch, I'm not really a fan of crime but this is just brilliant, top boy, love hate, gomorrah, has nothing on this show. It's not hollywood it's the true dark and gloomy goings on of a crime family, I'm not a fan of women leading roles but Amanda wow she is fire and I wouldn't want to get on her wrong side, Charlie Cox is brilliant truly a really good actor. Get it watched and please continue to make seasons.

Charlie Cox & Ciaran hinds save a dull drama
anthonyduffy3 November 2021
Charlie Cox needs to be credited for an excellent Dublin accent! I'm also glad to see that Aidan Gillen has remembered how to speak like an Irishman again. But apart from a few good individual performances an attempt at gritty and dangerous. It's dull, joyless and slow. It's a shame the big cast couldn't pull it out of the fire. Meant to give this a 6 but can't change my score ! We'll say the 7 is purely for Charlie Cox pulling off the accent.

From the writing, acting and screenwork. This was torture to watch!
dwayneh-8672026 September 2021
What is this trying to aim for ? Because it's definitely no where near love/hate. The interactions in this joke of a show are so unrealistic and fake. The constant close ups with blurry background??? What ? Ciaran hinds and Aidan Gillen are trying their best with what they have to work with. God bless them. The main characters would fit in more if they were in skerries because they definitely don't seem like the dublin gangland type.

Wish America would stop trying to remake classics from European countries. It's embarrassing.

Strong
rach_lg24 February 2024
This surprised me! I found series 1 to be slow, but 😉 enough. Series 2 though is next level. Excellent characters, good twists and gritty enough to keep me entertained. There aren't any characters I'd like to see gone. All add something. I really hope there is a series 3. The women in particular are fantastic and really hold their own. Could be a series just about them. Doesn't score a 10 due to a few moments I had to suspend belief, particularly the amount of waving a gun around with no consequences!! The writing in series 1 was also a bit hit and miss but this has greatly improved. Seems to have a good budget too.
