Wasn't Actually That Bad
MamadNobari978 December 2020
When I saw the ratings I thought this was another bad episode with bad writing from FG, but now that I watched it, it wasn't that bad and actually had a plot with a purpose, granted there's not much laughs in here but still has a good plot with a good message. I guess the lefties didn't like it much thus the low ratings?

A Well Done Social Commentary
colek-371177 December 2020
Decent Episode that I think explores both sides pretty equally. A Few Decent jokes not to far right or left and it was a good watch Season 19 has been one of the better ones with the story focused episodes this season have always been more enjoyable its the random no real plot random episodes that bother me but still pretty good!

Forgot your political complaints - it's just not funny
liamadaley16 December 2020
Lots of reviews complaining about the 'wokeness' of this episode. Let's leave that aside as Family Guy and South Park have always gone out of their way to be offensive - even if we're the demographic or group target.

The reality is this episode and most of this series has been boring, unfunny and just badly written.

Lazy writing or just out of ideas?

It was certainly a great episode.

The entire episode was pretty spot on how today's political climate has divided different groups of people. The episode also explored the issues with journalism and public opinion taken as fact and it was entertaining in my opinion.

Basically a redone version of the Hans Sprungfeld episode of The Simpsons but with 2020 themes

2020 nonsense and journalists
chiknn7 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A few good jokes about the statue nonsense and the state of journalism in 2020. Brian was the star of the show with jokes about the state of click bait articles and trying to remove historic monuments. A bright episode in a dark period.

Typical of late-season lamedom.

I don't care one way or the other that the producers are trying to get woke in order to appeal to more viewers. My only problem here is the show stopped being funny a long time ago and this episode is a nice example. None of the jokes are funny, and many of them feel like jokes we've heard before hundreds of times, especially the cutaways. Similar to the Simpsons and South Park they stopped being shocking, insightful, and genuinely humorous many years ago and are just floating along aimlessly, riding their previous glory. Of course its still better than a lot of other low-effort shows, and probably a good way to kill time if you aren't able to visit a bar or restaurant yet.

The reviews are funnier than the episode
crazelord31 July 2022
Far from the best the show has done but the reviews are hilarious. I wasn't surprised seeing the rating this one had due to the subject matter and how easily triggered conservatives get.

The hypocrisy of them whining about when they're target and acting like victims but then spend the rest of their time whining that everyone else is too sensitive for joke and is acting like a victim is just so unself aware I can't help but chuckle.

Ever wondered if some left-wing political message could be shoe horned into another painfully unfunny family guy episode? Here's your answer.

One of the best
This was one of the best episodes in years. It helped put the whole debate of removing statues to rest. Good job. There are reviews talking about "being woke" but that's just code for accountability.

Liberal woke Hollywood strikes again
TheforgottenAvenger14 December 2020
I remember when the show was far more care free on their politics than the lefty woke snowflake show it has become. Just a few seasons ago they were impaling school kids to Skynyrd for the right to tell a joke, now they're licking the backside of any far left news item that pops up. The days of Schindler's list scene parody's seem miles away from the liberal bile spew of the last few seasons.

Warning: Spoilers
Preachy and annoying for sure, but there were some solid laughs in here too.

I just think it would be beneficial for Family Guy to not be as unnecessarily political as they've been this year.

What happened to FM?
mmelchers8 December 2020
Seriously, almost all of S19 is bad to mediocre at best. Have they hired new writers, has Seth a side hussle that takes up all of his time? It feels a bit like South Park which went downhill 3 seasons ago. It makes me sad.

Political Much?
hometowncpas_liz8 February 2021
Yeah, I know you guys didn't write and draw this yesterday but let's leave the political stuff to the clowns in office. This season is saturated in exhausted political humor. I give FG a 10 and this episode a 2. I'm hoping for an uptick.

I'm really hoping for more of Wild West as mayor. Adam West left some pretty big shoes to gill but I think Sam Elliott just might be the guy and I'm sure he appreciates the abs you guys gave him

Woke Family Guy
stevenstratton1 November 2021
I never thought I'd see the day when Family Guy turned woke - so sad

Family guy was popular cus they were fearless in their comedy but season 19 was awful

The writers are obviously scared to offend so it's turned into a very dull shadow of its former self

Another great show ruined 🙁

South Park would have done this episode better.
bond_9814 February 2021
They would have weight both sides of a issue and came up with a nuanced opinion that would see the point of both sides and the problem with both sides. Family guy says screw it, Where right, your wrong, the end. But Family guy hasn't been that great since the 9th season.

a total miss
sunsnow-1205629 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, this episode tackled the fact that white Americans all throughout the political spectrum are one sided and dont listen to the voices of anyone theyre fighting for or against. And, while they did talk about a real indigenous tribe from Rhode island that makes beer, which I love to see, it also confuses me why the writing was so bad. The writers chose to do their research on a serious topic, but still chose to flat out copy the exact plot of a simpsons episode? Do they have no shame? I mean it was a complete duplicate, thats so embarrassing. They had the opportunity to make a good episode based on a real issue from the town that the show is in. But instead they fell flat with poor political commentary thats begging to appeal to the right, and a stolen episode premise(even the diary looks the same, cmon man) they couldn't have put the tiniest bit of effort into making their own ideas? And the "right leaning left in a movie" argument fell soooo flat for an episode covering genocide(even if it was supposed to be peters thoughts as an older conservative male, it feels more like the episodes message when you make it the ending and dont include any other parts of the argument, they had better argument writing about the godfather). The clap or your racist part fell flat too(espically because brian is a liberal, i understand that theyre trying to do right wing character development here, but they barely touched on why peters view should change, and basically undid it all at the end). Family guy writers are trying to appeal to the left and right wing at the same time, and they should just ditch the political commentary and accept the fact that it was and never will be their expertise. Besides, who is expecting good commentary from them? (other than south park fans who think the most basic arguments made to vaguely appeal to every side is the peak of political commentary)

Not a one to really awaken emotions.
burteriksson14 December 2020
This one really doesn't hit the spot that would make the audience think and have a conversation about it (at least with themselves, inside their heads [it's called "thinking"]). The theme and the subject just fails to bring or stir up things enough to make it interesting. They don't particularly badly fail with this one, but don't succeed either. It's a lukewarm cup of coffee with an aftertaste of tar even at its best.

(And I have a feeling that they did this before - and "The Simpsons" having done it even before that.)

The best point is made during the traditional "final conclusion scene" with the family sitting on the couch. At least there is one bit that I will remember this episode of.

Maybe there is still hope for FG, but having said that, I must mention that I personally have to go back three seasons for the last 10-star episode I've seen. More one-star episodes have had to be witnessed during that period of time, unfortunately.
