Cenk Batu – Urban Warfare
Tweekums4 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This episode sees protagonist Cenk Batu sent into the SEK unit (similar to American SWAT units) of the Hamburg Police as one or more members are suspected of helping train foreign forces, contrary to German law. Once in he befriends Lars Jansen and as he gets close to Jansen's family he gets more unsure about the job… success could tear this happy family apart. A greater threat emerges when a man calls the police to say there is a hostage situation then blames Jansen for killing his family before shooting himself. That might be the end of it but before calling the police it turns out he kidnapped Jansen's wife and daughter and locked them in a room with a bomb. He left a series of messages to bounce Jansen around the city but he is injured in a car crash leaving Cenk to try to save them. He follows the messages, with the help of his handler, Uwe Kohnau, and as he does so the facts about why Jansen and his family have been targeted emerge.

The central idea of having the protagonist bounced around a city while a deadline approaches is somewhat cliché but having an antagonist who is dead made it fresher than it would have been; it also meant that there was no point even trying to extend the deadline. We are given enough information to figure out why Jansen accidentally killed the man's family but it is still far from obvious. There is a decent amount of action, some surprises and a constant rising of tension as the deadline approaches. Mehmet Kurtulus continues to impress as Cenk Batu and Stipe Erceg is solid enough as antagonist Zoltan Didic although much of his performance is straight to camera phone messages aimed at Jansen. Overall another pretty good episode of 'Cenk Batu'.
