I am not surprised that The Brack Report has been little seen and discussed. Writer Christopher Penfold cannot blame The Falklands War that the viewing figures disappointed.
I also do not watch ten part hour long dramas just to listen to people debating about nuclear fusion or alternative energy sources. I am also not the kind of person who drones on about how good television was in the past.
The Brack Report was only shown several months before The Boys from the Blackstuff. The latter is landmark television looking at the devastating human impact of the early 1980s recession.
Episode 3 decided it wanted to go to an EEC meeting to discuss the future of energy. Paul Brack still comes across as an earnest sixth form student, no wonder his wife might be looking elsewhere.
Brack wants to leave his government job and hook up with Harold Harlan, a man who is looking to develop other non nuclear energy sources. He seems to have little interest in nuclear fusion.
None of the character are interesting or even believable. There is still no drama.
