All three of the show's chasers Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer are all former Jeopardy! champions. Fittingly, the first episode of this show began with host Sara Haines doing a tribute to long time Jeopardy! (1984) host Alex Trebek who had recently passed away on November 8th, 2020, two months prior to this shows premiere.
Brad Rutter, who joined this ABC version of the program as a chaser in 2020, was one of the chasers, along with Mark Labbett for two 2012 pilot episodes for Fox which were not picked up by the network. However, The Chase (2013) was picked up by GSN without Rutter leaving Labbett as the lone chaser.
James Holzhauer, who joined this ABC version of the program as a chaser in 2020, was a contestant on the GSN version of The Chase (2013), where his team won the final chase against Mark Labbett.
For the show's second season, Mark Labbett joined the show as the show's fourth chaser. Labbett is one of the two original chasers from the original Britain version of the The Chase (2009) and was also the lone chaser on the GSN version of The Chase (2013). Though this version also tapes in Los Angeles, Labbett not wanting to continue traveling from London to Los Angeles for tapings is what ended the highly successful GSN version.
There were 9 episodes taped for the first season of this ABC version, with the chasers going 5-4 against the contestants. Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter both went 2-1 in each of their three episodes, while James Holzhauer went 1-2.
