When the MCU began in 2008 with ‘Iron Man,’ nobody foresaw it becoming the colossal, beloved, and highly lucrative cinematic universe it is today. Traditionally, comic books were the main reference point for anything related to superheroes.
However, as movies and TV shows gained more popularity than the comics themselves, live-action adaptations began to significantly influence comic books. Some stories were even rewritten, drawing criticism from older fans and comic enthusiasts.
One notable example of the MCU’s impact on comics is Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel. Originally, she gained her powers as an Inhuman after exposure to Terrigen Mist. However, her Disney+ show introduced a new storyline, revealing her powers to be the result of genetic mutation, overshadowing her Inhuman origin.

When the MCU started back in 2008 with the release of the first ‘Iron Man,’ no one could imagine that it was going to snowball into the biggest, most popular, and most profitable cinematic universe imaginable.
For decades, the main point of reference regarding everything related to comic books were naturally – the comic books themselves, but as soon as the movies, and later, TV shows became more widely consumed than the source material itself, live-action adaptations started affecting comics to a big extent, some stories even being rewritten, which older fans, fans of the comics, criticized to no end.
The most infamous case of MCU affecting comics is Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. For most of her existence as the character she was known as Inhuman, being exposed to Terrigen Mist this is how she acquired her powers. Then came along her Disney+ show which decided to give her a mutant origin.

After spending years as a respected leader of the sovereign mutant nation Krakoa, Cyclops is back on the run. With Krakoa destroyed and humanity ready to oppress mutants again, Cyclops has gone back home to Alaska to refresh and regroup.
And yet, things have never been better for Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops. The upcoming From the Ashes relaunch will force the X-Men back into the world after the end of Krakoa in the Fall of X storyline, with a new X-Men book with Cyclops in the lead.
“We wanted to start with Cyclops and wanted to bring him back to Alaska,” X-Men writer Jed MacKay tells Den of Geek during an exclusive interview at SXSW. “And from there we started thinking what his mission would be moving forward because he’s Cyclops, he always has the mission.”
Working with artist Ryan Stegman, MacKay will bring Cyclops to...

The animated X-Men are about to make their return to TV in "X-Men '97." This Disney+ series is basically a thirty-year-late sixth season of 1992's "X-Men," the first cartoon about the Marvel Comics superhero team.
The "X-Men" comics kept chugging along through highs and lows while their animated counterparts were in limbo, though. At SXSW 2024, Marvel previewed the comics' future. A relaunch is coming to "X-Men" in Summer 2024 under the banner "From The Ashes," the follow-up to the ongoing "Fall of X." There'll be three primary series at first:
"X-Men" by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman. Cyclops and Magneto will lead a traditional X-Men superhero team based in Alaska.
"Uncanny X-Men" by Gail Simone and David Marquez. "Outlaw" lovebirds Gambit and Rogue head to New Orleans with Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee in tow.
"Extraordinary X-Men" by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero. Set in Chicago, Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost...

From the Ashes is a Saudi Arabian film that takes inspiration from a true story about an all-girls high school where a fire broke out, putting the girls in grave danger. The story shows us the lives of girls in Saudi Arabian schools and what they must do in order to pursue an education. The school is very strict and run by Principal Hayat, a woman who is in the middle of divorce procedures. On top of that, her daughter also goes to the same school, so she’s desperate for her to do the best in her class, always comparing her to the top student and pressuring her to do better. The film mainly focuses on a few girls in the school who get caught in a mess when a completely out-of-control fire breaks out in the school. Desperate for answers, Principal Hayat may go to any length to...

Netflix has brought to the global cinema scene the Saudi Arabian film From the Ashes. The film is loosely based on the true story of an all-girls high school where an unexpected fire broke out and an investigation revealed some harsh realities. Before we step into the technical aspects, I must acknowledge that this film is insightful about the workings of the all-girls schools in the country. The many rules the girls must follow and how they are desperate to go to school despite said rules are integral parts of this story. More importantly, it paints a clear picture of the kind of rules women have to follow, despite living through a life and death situation. The film tackles subjects like jealousy, comparing students, parental challenges, school bullying, and more school-related subjects within its thriller storyline and overarching tragic plot. There’s quite a lot happening all at once, and...

On her 2017 album Music for People in Trouble, Susanne Sundfør shifted from the electronic art pop of her previous work to a more acoustic folk sound that foregrounded her lyrics about global strife. The Norwegian singer-songwriter’s follow-up, Blómi, isn’t as thematically sprawling, nor is it a return to the masterful synth-pop of 2015’s Ten Love Songs. Rather, the album is a spacious, ambient-folk meditation on optimism and purpose with a widescreen perspective of humanity.
As a collection of songs, Blómi lacks both the drama and catchiness of Sundfør’s past efforts, but her goals here are decidedly different. The album revolves around inspiration, edification, and comfort, all befitting of the title—which means “to bloom” in Norwegian—and serving as a marked departure from earlier songs such as the urgent “Accelerate” and lovelorn “Undercover.”
In her pursuit of solace, Sundfør draws on the worship music of various cultures for inspiration.
