- Can Shawn Michaels and John Cena work together in their match against Chris Jericho and Randy Orton?
- In the ring, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton announced they had filed a formal protest relating to the outcome of the "Fatal Four-Way" match last week, alleging collusion between Shawn Michaels and JBL (so that JBL would earn his shot at WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena at the Royal Rumble). JBL came out and claimed that they (Jericho and Orton) would have done the same thing if they had his resources. Michaels then said he was glad that he prevented Jericho and Orton from fighting for the title. Jericho and Orton snickered, stating that Michaels was a phony and that his recent actions cheapened the outcome of his WrestleMania XXIV match with Ric Flair. General manager Stephanie McMahon came out and refused to accept the protest and that the Cena-JBL match at the Royal Rumble would go on as announced, and that Jericho and Orton are entered in the Royal Rumble. JBL interrupted McMahon and stated that Michaels will be in his corner for his championship match, after which McMahon booked a match pitting Michaels and Cena vs. Jericho and Orton for later in the show. JBL met with Michaels in the locker room, reminding him that he had a chance to take Cena out of action and cause him to forfeit the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to JBL. Michaels took it all silently as JBL boasted about heading into WrestleMania 25 a "conquering hero," then warned him to not let him down. * Orton met with Cody Rhodes and Sim Snuka about "Phase Two" of their initiation into Legacy - their upcoming tag team match with Cryme Tyme. Manu, who had lost his "Phase One" match last week - came in pleading for another chance, but Orton refused ... even after Manu pointed out that Orton lost in the "Fatal Four-Way" match last week. * Cena met up with Michaels, where Michaels said he was "nobody's puppet tonight." The exchange left Cena wondering which Michaels - the Clique HBK or the "reborn" HBK - he would be dealing with. Following the Rhodes-Snuka vs. Cryme Tyme match, Orton came up to both wrestlers and said that Snuka was out. Orton explained that Rhodes was the one who won the tag match, and refused to accept Snuka's reasoning that it was a tag team match. Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix met with McMahon backstage to talk about Rosa Mendes' recent ringside behavior. McMahon said that she had dealt with the situation by having Mendes thrown out of the arena. Jericho then walked up to McMahon, asked her whether JBL had influenced her decision, and then said he had taken his complaint to a higher level: Vince McMahon himself. Jericho said that McMahon would be returning for the Jan. 19 "Raw." "So whose show is it going to be?" sneered Jericho as he walked off. Kelly Kelly def. Jillian Hall. Pre-match: Hall sang "When the Saints Go Marching In" off-key. Post-match: Kane came into the ring, got into Kelly's face, and plugged his match next week against Orton. Kane - referring to a backstage segment from the Dec. 29 "Raw" - asked Kelly how she liked being rejected by Orton, then noted that he would go back to doing what he does best: taking people apart.—Brian Rathjen <briguy_52732@yahoo.com>
