Kartik Aaryan shines in a decent thriller!
nadkarnisumeet20 November 2021
Dhamaka review :

Loosely based on the South Korean thriller 'The Terror Live' (2013), Dhamaka is a fairly decent attempt by Ram Madhvani to expose the TRP hungry media. It explores our modern world where "News" is created and sold to its viewers who enjoy the masala fare even if it is fake. Here, we have a down and out anchor (Kartik Aaryan) trying to further his career prospects by establishing live connect with a terrorist who has just blown up the Mumbai sea link.

It all starts when the anchor gets a threatening call from this person in midst of his programme which naturally, he takes it to be a prank. Booom!! There is a blast and the anchor sees an opportunity here for fame and TRPs!! It is even more surprising when the terrorist demands an apology from the ruling party minister in lieu of safety of the blast site victims.

The fact that Ram Madhvani has the knack of extracting the best from his cast was already established when he managed to make a dud like Sonam Kapoor perform so well in Neerja (2016). Kartik is anyway a much better actor than the nepo-kid and expectedly, knocks the ball out of the park. His demeanor, body language, expressions are first rate in each and every scene. In fact, the character itself goes through myriad of emotions and Kartik has aced all of them. Extraordinary, indeed!!

The supporting cast also doesn't disappoint. Particularly, Amruta Subhash, playing the ruthless and greedy boss, is top class. Mrunal Thakur leaves a mark even in a small role.

At just one hour forty minutes of run time, Dhamaka starts off superbly, comes to the point fast, gets slight sluggish in between but quickly picks speed again to conclude on a highly thought provoking note. Its unconventional climax may or may not appeal to all but here's a film which deserves a watch for those fantastic performances.

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Kartik Aryan is the Weakest Link in Here!
SoumikBanerjee199628 November 2021
"What is an Anchor? An Actor, What An Actor Wants? An Audience, What the Audience Wants? Drama"

Whilst, on the one hand, Dhamaka strongly stands against the shenanigans of News Publications, by giving us a tiny specimen of their toxic work cultures. On the other hand, it blatantly discloses the two-faced nature of these so-called media houses through their scandalous & unctuous operations.

The narrative here makes an exhibition for all the selfish agendas of all those insatiable individuals who do not look after the common citizens nor they want to bear any sort of responsibility towards our nation's welfare; all they care about is wealth and of course their superficial rating systems!

If only the makers had given the same amount of attention and care to the remainder of the film, trust me; this could have been something else entirely! Sadly, that didn't come to pass and I for one blame the Characterization more than anything else here! And yeah one more thing, hate me all you want but, to tell the truth, Kartik Aryan didn't come across as the best choice in there.

Frankly speaking, I didn't like his portrayal! I hardly managed to connect to him on a personal level, therefore the majority of the sentimental aspects failed to make an impact on me! Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all discrediting Kartik for his honourable attempt here but gotta admit, despite his genuine efforts, his rather caricaturish depiction of an egoistic News commentator just didn't seem like the fairest outcome for such a complex character!

A lukewarm Dhamaka!
sn-shinde200620 November 2021
This one starts ticking very efficiently and keeps audience engaged every minute. Kartik Aaryan has delivered a genuinely good performance with Amruta Subhash, Mrunal Thakur and Vikas Kumar in a perfect supportive roles.

Visuals and screenplay are treat to watch to get engrossed every passing moment.

What's not so good- Problem starts in second half when expectations raised in first half starts falling while revealing suspense feels no exciting and things become too predictable.

Overall a good watch over weekend with crisp and shorter run time!

Electronic Media Exposed
sanjeevanwar19 November 2021
Anwar Says : An Anchor is an actor , Actor needs audience and audience need drama, these three lines expose the electronic media today in Ram Madhvani's release today DHAMAKA at Netflix. A remake of 2013 Korean Film 'The Terror Live 'and shot in only 10 days and the credit goes to Neerja and Aarya director and the Superstar in making Kartik Aaryan.

Madhvani idea of filming is at loggerheads with the area the film is traversing, he is more into explosion , probably since the title is Dhamaka . I liked the way Aaryan Khan's initial life has been shown in the opening song . No other cast has been given much exposure and passing on the buck is the way of corporate life has been perfectly narrated . At points the movie seems going slow but suddenly picks up . Madhvani has been able to drumming up the tensions and also able to sustain it .

A new trend set by Madhvani , the main cast carries the whole movie on his/her shoulder, whether it was Sonam Kapur or Sushmita Sen and now Kartik Aarayan . Watch it today after India- Newzealand 20-20 for stealing performance of Aaryan.

Dhamaka Has Got Some Wet Powder In It But Still Makes A Blasting-Thriller. Kartik Aaryan Comes Out Of His Secured Shell In This Ram Madhvani's Real Time Thriller.
SAMTHEBESTEST19 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dhamaka (2021) : Movie Review -

Watching a film like 'The Terror Live' in 2013 was one hell of an experience, not because it was too great something like that, but because it tried to break that quintessential thriller notion set in mainstream cinema. In Bollywood, there was Neeraj Pandey's 'A Wednesday' (2009) to set top-level benchmark which might remain unbeaten for years and whatever manages to come close to that, should be termed great. Kartik Aaryan starrer Dhamaka is full-on copy and paste from The Terror Live and that takes away lot of surprises from the audience who have seen the original. But, it has that local-flavoured humor for Hindi audience which is enough to take it safe zone. Ram Madhavani's adaptation is no different from the original because the universal appeal of this content provides it that connect to the Hindi audience. Yes, it has those flaws, which, even the original couldn't defeat but like mentioned above, that connect to the Hindi audience makes it an absolute blasting thriller for our audience. There is a thrill, there is some fun, there are some poignant thoughts and then there's a thrilling ride of explosions and exposures. And yes as expected there are few moderate mistakes too which could have been removed if the art of filmmaking had been mastered.

A successful journalist demoted to radio jockey named Arjun Pathak receives a threat after he exclusively interviewed a terrorist, who blew up a bridge. Then begins a game of TRP, Conspiracies, Politics, Corporation Scams, Relationships, Humanity, and last but not the least- the Human Conscious. Dhamaka is a well-written script if one has to look it from the perspective of the original. It does not offer anything new besides that, but for the audiences who are watching it as a fresh story, every single moment is surprising. The screenplay is engaging and is powered by gripping storytelling. It's almost a song-less film, and that definitely helps it to keep the pace high. Thriller genre never demands useless songs, but hardly few filmmakers in India have understood that and Ram Madhavani acknowledges that fact with Dhamaka. What actually makes it chilling is its Background Score. Not a single conflict or dramatic scene in the film goes without intense background theme. It's too good when you watch in such atmosphere and experience the surrounding tension. An auditorium would have been a perfect place for it than Mobile or TV sets.

Kartik Aaryan has finally come out of his chocolate boy image and not a single soul will disagree to that. The same actor who was happy being a charming boy in commercial potboilers has grown up all of a sudden. It's not that people hated him those roles, rather they enjoyed his youth oriented monologues and friendship motto but it is just that he plays the new innings on a different pitch. Arjun Pathak is a new chapter in Kartik Aaryan's career and will remain a shell-breaker role for him. Yes, he fumbles a bit, like once in a half-an-hour, but he stays in his top form rest of the time which is still praiseworthy. It shows that the right choice can take you to artistic zone which may be remembered for years unlike those one time watch box office hits which fade awa from audiences mind by the time they reach home from theatre. Mrunal Thakur has got a less screen space, but she is fine with those limited scenes. What comes as a big surprise is, Amruta Subhash. She is an update to the original South Korean Thriller. Amruta looks so confident in Dhamaka that you might even forget it for a moment that she was playing the only changed part in this remake. That gives her individual identity, and she is just superb in every single scene. The shooting cast is considerably good.

Whatever Ram Madhavani's thriller offers is quite pleasant considering the social relevance of the context. I mean it does not become a headache if that's what you call watchable. It's more than just watchable. The Terror Live had a messy climax but that was 2013, when making such real-time thriller was itself a big challenge. Dhamaka comes 8 years later but still uses the same techniques and that's questionable because 8 years is a fine long gap for a field like cinema. Things change so fast here that you expect something new every week. Nevertheless, Madhavani has made a terrific thriller that can be viewed without any fear or doubts. His atmospheric brilliance and his secured command over the narration have made Dhamaka "A-Blasting-Thriller", which goes beyond certain boundaries that are created by mediocre films in this very same genre. However, there are some moments where he loses the grip and because it is not a long film, those little mistakes stay in your memory. Overall, one can say that dustbin called Netflix has finally delivered a 'Blast-Of-A-Film' (in Hindi) with the courtesy of Kartik Aaryan and Ram Madhavani but it could have been better. The original was hyped for being made in 2013 otherwise even that film has few moments that can be bashed. And i don't think Dhamaka should be blamed for that, however, it can be slammed for not improvising those mistakes.

RATING - 6/10*

Bad, very bad, Dhamaka...
irajbhattacharya20 November 2021
I am shocked to see the current rating of this movie @8.4 as on 20/11/2021. I thought of writing a review with plot holes. Then I realized that there are so many plot holes that it's not possible to write those down in a single review. Worst of all is the ending which doesn't make any kind of sense. Just to portrait media as an evil entity, they did whatever they could.

Damn the ending....
mrrobot168420 November 2021
So unpopular opinion this movie was quite nice.... Superb acting by everyone. But applause for the one who played the mahte's son. That dude was freaking awesome. Mrunal Thakur was charming but on acting level - average.

Also one more thing, am I the only one who felt A Wednesday vibes...

Film was crisp and up to the point.

Nothing felt exerated and finally Kartik played something different , and was nice to watch especially last 20 min.

There were some loose ends in the plot.

But overall a nice watch.

You should definitely go for it.

Being stubborn is an issue, but not here I guess.
MuviFan7320 November 2021
Story: A news anchor who has been demoted to radio jockey, tries to rejuvenate his carrier again as an anchor on getting a call from person who has placed bombs. The person who has placed bombs, just wants compensation for the people who died in construction of a bridge. He also wants the minister involved to ask for forgiveness. Will that happen? Watch the movie.

Cinematography: Justified, I don't know if it's me but most of the movies which portray destruction in metropolis appear lifeless.

Direction: Justified. Felt so good when person who was sent for minister is shut forever by ear explosive.

Final Verdict: Compensation to such people does come. The movie deviates from that truth on that point. Although it is said it happens because it was not in news. But yes the employees work without any safety gears, that needs to be checked.

Its right, people don't accept their mistake and ask for forgiveness, for they would require to accept they are wrong. One of the things that needs to be changed (may be by bringing up into education).

Yes there are tons of adiyal (stubborn) people that are source of pain to many that need to be neutralized.

Fake Reveiws- Spamming at its best
ashutoshsahu-419 November 2021
If your read the reviews, it's all a network marketing mess. The same reviews are pasted with some variation in words to misguide people. Producers and their team are going to any extent to brandish their movie as 10/10. Crazy.

Dhamaka to the Current Politics and Media
skmenon199319 November 2021
Dhamaka Movie Review.......

Released on Netflix on 19th November starring Karthik Aryan in lead role. This movie is adapted from Korean Movie " Terror Live" in 2013

Directed by Ram Madhavani....

Verdict : Super Hit....

Plot of the Movie....

A one fine day Arjun Phatak gets a call of a unknown person who says that the Bandra Worli Sea Link will be blasted and if there shouldn't be any loss further, he needs an apology from the minister to him & that too in live.... From the trailer its clearly understood this point.... Rather by going into depth and making it a spoiler lets come straight to my observation...

1) Media or to be specific News Channel which is more than infinite, when we watch , we have a trust that this news is authentic. The reporter, that we see is the face of truth.... But that's what today's news channel all about... My personal opinion is NOOOOOO.

2) Today, media had become business where a honest person will be corrupt and a traitor will be a Patriotic....

3) What we see, what we hear is not true always... People roar at debate hours...Is this real?? Again my answer is NOOOOOO... Its all about fame and business growth.... A Give and take policy..

4) Are our politics is what we expected, are the elected representatives really care for the public who made to sit on the thrones??

5) Is the judiciary is unbiased?? Do the voice of common people is addressed.....

Do watch Dhamaka & I feel we will get answers for the above queries....

A must Watchable Movie.

Starts off well !! Ending too preachy!!
sanjubhat23 November 2021
Film Review - Dhamaka streaming on Netflix #sanjuzzreviews #DhamakaMovie #DHAMAKA Loosely based on the 2013 Korean film ' The Terror Live' , Dhamaka is director Ram Madhwani's expose of the TRP hungry media where news is made and sold to the people.

This thriller starts off with a down and out anchor ( Aryan) getting a call from a terrorist with a threat that he will blow up the sealink if his demands are not met. The anchor sees this as an opportunity to regain his past glory and that's where the film starts picking up pace.

Kartik Aryan has done a great job in coming out of his 'oh cho chweet' loverboy image to play a serious character. His demeanor, body language, a myriad of emotions which he experiences in the course of the film deserve a special mention. Amruta Subhash who plays his ruthless boss has also played her part very well.

The film starts off with a bang, 'a la Wednesday', but falters in the second half where it gets too preachy. However there is a twist towards the climax which is interesting.

The Cinematography & VFX are really nice and the explosions happening on the sealink are depicted very realistically.

This cudve been another Wednesday, but sadly fall short of expectations. A one-time watch film, not too bad either.

My rating: 2.5/5 .. adios 🙂

I was not aware that the same director who had directed Neeraja had directed this movie. I loved watching Neerja at the theatre. Nailed this suspense thriller this time. Mrunal Thakur was excellent in her short role and the lead actor as an opportunistic anchor. The story was cliche but the execution was perfect . Karthik Aryan has grown a lot as an actor . The ending was predictable . Could there have been a better ending to the movie ?? May be yes may br No. I loved the caption but We sell the news and we create the drama .

Good Thriller, Below Average Acting
OnjiMooteDaMarle20 November 2021
I haven't seen the original (The Terror Live, South Korean, 2013) but this was a good thriller in general. It had some really cringe worthy acting by everyone. I can't see Karthik Aryan anymore. I just can't digest him. The music though good, I instantly connected it to the music of the film 'Karwaan' because it's 'The Dewarists'. The music is very similar - calm and in trans.

There were a lot of Bollywoodish scenes and they actually make it eww.

During the end credits, after the end credit music ends, there is total silence. That silence is loud and says a lot about the climax of the film. Well done for that.

Worth watching (with family too).

On Netflix.

Approx. 1hr45min.

Not entirely accurate, but an entertaining watch nevertheless.
Perspicuity18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are two aspects of Dhamaka, entertainment and accuracy. If we talk about entertainment, then I can say that it definitely succeeds in entertaining us, but as far as accuracy is concerned, it falters miserably. The screenplay of the film raises a few questions :

1. How is it that an earpiece with a bomb attached to it passed around without anyone noticing anything unusual in it ? Why didn't anyone question the person who brought those microphones/earpieces ?

2. During the broadcast, news anchors of two different channels started interacting and cross-questioning each other on air, that never happens.

But if you overlook these inconsistencies, then Dhamaka will certainly come across as a very entertaining film. The depiction of news channels, where no one has a conscience, and shallowness is celebrated, might have felt incorrect 20 years back, but not today. Today journalistic morals and ethics have taken a backseat and all kinds of nonsense is considered acceptable, because news is not told to the viewers anymore, it has to be sold to them, so news media has turned into a fish market where the one who shouts the loudest gets the maximum viewership.

As far as acting is concerned, Amruta Subhash has killed it once again, just like every other role that she has done in the past. Mrunal Thakur has a wonderful screen presence, but unfortunately her role in the film is more of a cameo. Kartik Aaryan has tried something new with this film and has done a pretty decent job of portraying a journalist who undergoes a plethora of emotions in a single day.

The movie grabs your attention right from the first scene, with a montage of the romantic moments spent together by Arjun and Soumya and the beautiful song by Prateek Kuhad, and then straightaway gets to the point of the film. Although, the movie falters towards the end with it's unconvincing and convoluted climax, but one can't deny that the movie is paced quite well. Dhamaka is not a brilliant film, but it's screenplay has enough twists and surprises that make it worthy of your time.

Bad execution
isaacochoterena22 November 2021
This movie has an important message, but its execution makes it less enjoyable.

The beginning of this movie is good, but as the plot progresses, it gets boring and cyclical, the plot twist is good and has an unexpected ending, but the movie has a lot of sentimentality and some inconsistencies. The performances are not good, the editing makes the film tedious, some special effects are bad and it is sometimes convenient.

The film is bad and boring, but it exposes that ambition sometimes succumbs to us and makes a harsh criticism of the government of the film's country of origin.

Sure to hold your interest!!
rakeshlaxman21 November 2021
Simmering, intense and just short of a perfect thriller.

State of the current situation of media hungry corporates that twist the truth for TRP.

The threat is just a way to expose the greedy news anchors and exposes what really happens in a world where truth is twisted for power, money and fame.

Kartik Aaryan comes out of his goody goody image of a lover boy with a smirk, and adds a punch to some serious histrionics, believable and at your face. His intense face tears you apart and makes you root for him. Though he would have deserved a better ending, but nevertheless he hits the ball out of the park.

Amruta Subhash as the power hungry, no nonsense boss of a news channel makes you cringe at a portrayal of a riled up monster. But she did show the right face of news media.

We could have done away with the mushy personal angle of the lives of the Pathaks, but it ends up very well.

Noteworthy is the man behind the threats - When he reveals his identity, you root for him. His end adds up to the overall trauma.

Have not seen the original Korean one, but for the Indian audience, this is the best Sunday afternoon smasher 👍👍

An Average Movie
khaledshaik20 November 2021
Well, the rating which I have given is only for a good remake attempt which is loosely based on the 2013 film The Terror Live (south Korean hit film). Rest when it comes to Kartik's acting I felt like I'm watching Pyaar ka Punchnama, no proper expressions, same still face for any of the reactions or situation arise. I would say Amruta Subhash's acting was much better compared to all the supporting cast.

I truly don't understand the 10/10 reviews here? So many bot accounts, it's ridiculous.

There is a review "thank you for this app", "best service provider amazing". Ok then.

The movie is Mediocre at best. Like which news channel in the world will show a dead body on air? Or broadcast your anti terrorist unit going to capture the said terrorist. What?

Rest of the plot was alright. Fair watch but these bots.... Netflix really? Why? Giving it 1 to balance out the outrageous bots.
