This first episode is almost a shot-for-shot remake of the first episode of the original. It's definitely updated for a new generation (think Tik Tok videos and a video diary). But I will say this first episode got me a little more in the feels, or maybe I'm just getting older. I'm looking forward to seeing what more season one has to offer, and hopefully we get a little more variety than just ripping off the original.

There are all these reviews complaining that this first ep us almost word for word of the original. So what? I have 100% no recollection of the first ep of the original series. I barely remember the original series. Sorry Neil! This is a cute show with one HUGHLY fatal flaw. It is impossible for anyone to have an M. D. and still be in high school. That just makes no sense. Even in the intro it says she breezed through high school. Cute show. Too many inconsistencies.

It was very much like the first episode of the original Doogie Howser series. And I'm completely cool with that.
I actually found the actress who plays Doogie in this series REALLY irritating in shows I've seen her in before. But I have to say, she gave a great performance in this first episode. I teared up during the beach scene toward the end of the episode (don't want to spoil it).
I'm going to give this a chance.
