To Catch a Thief (1955)
The famous car chase scene in Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (1955) that has Grace Kelly's Frances Stevens character racing along a rural Monaco with Cary Grant's John "the cat" Robie in the passenger seat of a sweet Sunbeam-Talbot Alpine Sports Mk I roadster. This scene is remade in Goliath season 4 episode 3 a little bit more than 12 minutes in with a dreaming Billy Bob Thornton's Billy McBride a passenger to a driving Diana Hopper's Denise McBride. The scene in Goliath is considerably shorter than the original, but matches a few moments of the original very closely: the winding shoulder less cliff and seaside country road, the screeching tires as the turns are navigated at high speed, the driver's scarf flowing in the rush of air thru the convertible, the shot of the passenger grabbing his knees in white knuckle fashion, the glances by the passenger in the rear view mirror, the driver's foot pressing the gas pedal to the floor and then later the brake and the rapid screeching stop in the road. It is the often referenced scene from the 1955 movie that was widely reported to have been filmed on the same road that then Princess Grace of Monaco actually had an auto accident in 1982 due to suffering a stroke while driving (the fact that it is the same road is now disputed). Kelly never recovered and died the next day of brain hemorrhage, and her 17 year old daughter Stephanie who was the only passenger survived the accident.
