The segment with Terry talking to Agnes Bernelle, 3 Mustaphas 3 and Elvis Costello is one of the more awkward in the series. Bernelle's song contains elements that wouldn't normally be heard during Wogan's timeslot, including the word "pissed", and the offbeat nature of the music (described by Terry as "Lotte Lenya... Marlene Dietrich?") produces giggles from the audience.
After Terry suggests that it's an unusual style of music for Elvis to take an interest in, Elvis responds "You'd be surprised", while pursing his lips, then leaving a silence. There's an uncomfortable glint in Terry's eye as if he perceives that Elvis is being offhand, while after a pause Terry suggests that it's not in the mainstream of music. Elvis's assertion that "It will be now" produces a big laugh from the audience, with more than a hint of derision.
Although there are some jokes between Terry and Elvis afterwards, Terry's attempts to have a joke with the band (who are pretending to speak broken English) don't go over well with the audience, so Terry redirects the conversation back towards Elvis, asking him "Where did you find these?" As if not acknowledging that it's even a question, Elvis simply answers "What?"
After a few more moments, Terry winds the interview up and moves on, receiving just a silent nod from Elvis in response.
