Kylie Minogue denies being in a relationship with Jason Donovan on the show, although it has since been disclosed that they dated for three years. Ironically, the song that Kylie sings on this edition, "The Loco-motion", was cited by Donovan as one of the reasons their relationship began to dissolve, with her elevated success putting pressure on them: "I had this genuinely sinking feeling, as if I knew that was the end for us."
In Small Screen Stars (2015), Terry notes that he'd warned Kylie Minogue about the dangers of a pop career, in that careers in the music industry rarely last long. When the episode aired, Kylie was in her 28th year in the music business, causing Terry to remark "shows how much I know."
A trailer for this edition saw Terry and guest Kylie Minogue discuss her upcoming appearance, with Terry deliberately mispronouncing her last name ("min-oh-gew") for schtick. After Kylie remarks that her last name means boomerang in Aboriginal, Terry says "perhaps if I throw you out into Shepherd's Bush Green, you'll swing back and be here at seven o'clock?"
