Who's fooling who?

Part four goes some way towards explaining why Angela has landed up in the awkward and saddening predicament she finds herself in.

Here we're given mainly backstory, Angela's predicament is put into context. It's the mid point episode, it serves to inform not thrill. We learn why Angela's past has such an impact on her present, plus we learn how long Olivier has been the one pulling the strings in the relationship.

I don't think that this has the intensity of the previous episode, but that was exceptional. I think what we're given here will count towards the eventual conclusion.

I think this gained pace as it went on, and the last ten minutes gave us some high drama, and a real twist.

7/10.

Epise 4 is unwatchable

I don't pay for hbo gi subsription to listen to a child's scream all the time. It is also off and unconsistently surreal comparing to previous 3 episodes, so annoying.

Mute your TV
Red_Shining15 January 2024
Angela Black episode 4 falls short with a constant, grating presence - a screaming baby. The show's already slow pace becomes unbearable as this shrill background noise persists. Throughout the episode, I found myself repeatedly lowering the volume and even muting the TV to escape the auditory assault. While I recognize the attempt to make a point, subjecting viewers to nearly an hour of a random child's screams felt like a misguided choice. It detracted from the overall experience, leaving me questioning the rationale behind such an unpleasant narrative decision. An unfortunate misstep in an otherwise engaging series.

Warning: Spoilers
There is some good stuff in Angela Black. Unfortunately it is a bit of a drag.

Angela has been sectioned at the hospital and is unable to see her kids.

Ed seems to be a figment of her imagination. Her story of abuse from her husband, the character of Ed is all from a book she has been reading. Someone is messing with her head.

There are flashbacks to Angela's relationship with her mother who abandoned her. The PTSD she suffered when Angela had her baby.

There is an intriguing thriller here but it is too flabby. It lacks sharpness.

It might just be the case that Angela's husband has been playing the long game and manipulating Angela for a long time, with Ed assisting.
