Romance and Loss
dyxkrdfr7 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Great cast who did a lovely job playing their roles. A beautiful story of love and transformation. But as per usual K-Drama, too many inconsistencies. Can't they just communicate? They are adults. The ending hurts, but it makes sense. A realistic representation of grief, loss, being a caregiver of someone with Alzheimer's disease and filial love. The reason I am not giving it 10 stars is communication problems and because if I were in that situation, I would want to spend every moment with the person I love. Seeing the main character thinking he would hurt her less if he is mean to her, that way she wouldn't be sad when he dies?! Just really hard to believe someone would behave that way when they know they only have weeks left to live. I just wanted to yell at half of the characters so many times: just talk to each other! Cinematography is quite beautiful too, it made me want to go to Korea and live in an old neighborhood and see trees bloom in the spring. On the whole, I think it was worth watching because the good stuff outweighs the not so good.

Half Really Good and Half Really Bad (Mild Spoilers)
fake_moviestar1 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of those shows that could have been amazing had it gotten rid of the bad parts (which were admittedly pretty bad).

First off, I actually really like love-stories that have an angsty break-up in them, as long as there is a reconciliation afterwards. I also LOVE a tragic love-story; the kinds that make you ache because the love is so amazing and romantic and so the fact that it ends in tragedy makes your heart hurt for hours or days after watching. Like Goblin level tragic. This show could have been that aching, heart stopping tragedy but it just fell short because of the added filler.

Lets start with the good: the premise is interesting, the ML and FL lead had fantastic chemistry, and both the soundtrack and cinematography complimented each other perfectly to create that soft and lovely romance with tragic undertones. The way the premise culminated in the end was incredibly poignant and was both unexpected and wonderfully written. The subplot with both mom's of the FL and ML were charming and added extra depth to the relationships and the main story as well.

Now for the bad: I hated all the other random couples in this show, they were annoying, cheesy, clingy, and took up WAY too much time. In fact cutting out the side couples and making this show 12 episodes instead of 16 would have been perfect. During their breakup, the ML was a little too mean for a little too long, it was definitely off-putting. The love-triangle with the FL's best friend was INTOLERABLE, I actually skipped the end of episode 7 and most of episode 8 because I couldn't stand to watch the ML throw away any and all of his pride. It was supposed to be funny but it ended up falling really flat. It could have worked had the friend given up quickly and become friends with the ML as well, kind of like in "While You Were Sleeping," which handled this issue nicely.

I liked the ending, it was sad but had a lot of meaning, which is second best to a happily ever after in my opinion.

Should you give this a watch? I'm not sure if I would recommend it, but if you do, skip past the side couples for sure, they are so unnecessary and never add anything to the main story.

Stupidity ensues.
yugatikam14 April 2021
This drama started off well, but kinda lost interest by episode 6. The female lead is supposed to be this kind, helpful, thoughtful actress while the male lead is an eccentric writer who is a bit narcissistic.

By episode 7, by the magic of God knows what, the female lead suddenly can't decide between the two guys who've confessed to her and instead chooses to play the field, saying she likes them both. That's a complete 180 from her behavior. Also, the male lead is portrayed as a clingy, jealous baby. It's like both the leads drank a magic potion of stupid provided by the writer. The male lead instead of spending precious moments with his dying mother, instead decides to run around the female lead trying to get his attention. All the character development until ep 5-6 goes out the window, along with the storyline and quite possibly the interest of the viewers with episode 7. The drama crew probably wanted to start a love triangle between Joo-in, Bi-soo and whatshisname (who surprisingly has just one expression on his face because apparently his script described his character to act goofy at all times) but this drama should know when not to kdrama. So, they used the love triangle plot. What's next? Bi-soo is going to die(the angel guy said he just extended Bi-soo's lifespan by a short while) so he meets an accident. Then we'll have the female lead finding out about it and rushing to be on his side, realizing she loved him all along. He survives but loses his memory and she tries to win his heart again (because kdrama has to kdrama).

Not worth to watch
simabike7 May 2021
The story is actually quite good, and the acting of the main role actress is impressive.

Beginning episodes were good, but after watching episode 6 and above, this drama was starting to be strange and hate to watched.

I stopped watch this drama after episode 12, because the both main characters were already being non-logical and inacceptable any more.

The main actor's character turned to be a kind of garbage & meanful man. The writer suddenly made the man's character to be so mean to the woman's character.

Never has a man, who deeply loves a woman, could be so mean to the woman's heart and hurt her heart so deep even the woman did nothing harm to him.

In other drama, the actor's character is made to be a gentle heart man, so the viewer could enjoy the romantic atmosphere in the story.

Does the writer of this drama know? That in the real life, when a man loves a woman, he would never hurt the woman's heart by any reason, even when the man is dying. So, please learn from the fact in the real world life before you write a story about romance. It's just very ridiculous to make all the main's character to be such annoying person.

In the end of this story, are the writer gonna make spectacular change? The actor doesn't die, and they will get marriage happily after all what happened between them in this story?? You think this is a cartoon drama?

Worthy of a better rating
sonia-951116 March 2022
I am compelled to write a review after watching this series mainly because it has a low rating on this platform and it deserves over 7 for sure!! It's a beautifully written series, sometimes a bit clumsy in parts but the performances of Lee Min-ki and Nama are so lovely it's worth watching just for them! Anyone who rated this show 1 really has done it a disservice. I found it very watchable and meaningful!

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews24 May 2021
Korean Drama Oh My Ladylord had a great cast, some strong family plotlines, some sweet, romantic moments, but a bad story.

The pace was off, with some badly edited scenes and a few questionary camera angles. The twists were also old, especially those towards the ending, and they were not entertaining. The focus on the love triangle, also, was a false move. It was itself forced and it messed things up a lot and unnecessarily. The bromance that they tried to enforce was boring as well. Not to mention the side couples that tried too hard to be funny, but failing every time. As for the worst moment of the drama, that would be the ending. The fantasy element was bad right from the start, was never properly explained, was often forgotten, did not fit the main mood of the drama and, in the end, ruined the ending.

However, there were some good things that helped a bit. The family drama was good and the mothers' relationships with their children were just so warm and sweet and all the actors and actresses did a great job with them. The performances overall were enjoyable and top-notch but the script did not help them at all. The main couple, in addition, had chemistry and were good together.

So, overall, four out of ten. The first episodes were nice, and there were some parts of this drama that were good, but the rest was just not good enough.

Nana and Lee Min-ki are fantastic.
tccandler2 April 2021
This kdrama hits many of the familiar tropes, but nails them with such accuracy and charm that viewers will be willing to forgive the familiarity. Lee Min-ki and Nana are both excellent in this type of rom-com, and they exhibit great chemistry. The side characters are all well drawn and have nice story arcs too. The first few episodes are light and fresh... but the show teases hidden depths to come. This is a great drama for those experienced with the kdrama aesthetic... or for those who want a perfect introduction. With this... and last year's fantastic "Into the Ring", Nana is quickly becoming the go-to-actress for this type of role -- the strong independent woman with a heart of gold.

Nonsencial
The series was interesting in the first few episodes, and then total stupidity and idiocy begins.

Shameless

This is a classic example of what I like to call a waste of carbon emission. It's impressive how a drama can fail on every metric there is and still get to finish its full run. It's fundamentally dysfunctional even if we were to disregard the epilogue. Yikes! On another note, Nana needs to figure out how to turn on her facial muscles appropriately with the scene. Oh my ladylord
aidansocnet13 April 2024
I added this to the watch list for when I would take a couple of days off from study and seek some escapism by way of a binge watch session. After watching the show, I had a gander at some of the reviews and agree the lower ratings seem a bit harsh.

Personally, I thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable show any one can easily become immersed in. I thought the cast all performed well and the actors imo were very convincing at conveying their characters.

The last episode kept me gripped so I thought it was well written, oh and yes, without spoilers, throughout the show, each episode brought to life the overall storyline in which there were some intrigue, alongside jovial moments amidst moving moments too - ok I admit my eyes welled a few times - when I escape through shows like this I tend to become immersed in the story and the characters the actors are portraying so my emphatic side is easily triggered - guessing some people may not be as easily moved as I was as we are all different but I'm sure that anyone would find the storylines relatable.

I like the suggested season 2 plot a reviewer posted and think that would be good makings for a follow up - bit like bringing Bobby back in Dallas pickings/offerings of an alternate approach to the main theme and re- jigging timelines of the storytelling that proffered up imo potentially another season that would have me enthralled.
