The best episode of all time, in every form of media.

The themes, the emotions, the characters, everything peaks on this episode.

The single greatest episode ever made. And yes, I've seen Ozymandias from Breaking Bad.

Also yes, you WILL cry your eyes out.

Life-Affirming Beauty

Warning: Spoilers
This anime has multiple soul-crushing moments of despair and depression, but this episode stands out because while it is very sad, it's actually kind of uplifting in its sorrow. Tomoya cries whilst getting flashbacks to moments with Nagisa, but ultimately is looking forward and knows what his duty is now as a father.

This is the much needed extreme emotional catharsis where Tomoya acknowledges Nagisa's death head on and accepts his role as a father. THAT is why it hits so hard. Pair that with some gorgeous orchestral music and the tears are guaranteed to flow.

Truly Clannad's masterpiece of an episode.

My fav episode of fiction ever
baptisteautreville2 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's so perfect, the development, the music, the emotion... Tomoya is such an amazing protagonist and the fact that he became just like his father is so meaningful, such an awesome parallelism. Ushio is also so mature like omg she's only 5 and she already have to hide her emotions. The "first thing from papa" and "Sanae san told me the only places I can cry are the bathroom and in daddy's arms" is so emotionnal, it's litteraly impossible to not start sobbing. Also, the scene with the grandma is wholesome and the end in the train oh gosh... I've never cried so much.

I will never forget this episode.
