On July 2, 1982, Larry Walters (1949-1993) tied 45 weather balloons to his lawn chair and floated for 14 hours from his back yard in San Pedro to Long Beach -- about seven miles (as the crow flies). The soundtrack of this film is recorded conversation between Walters and an air traffic controller: Walters describes his craft, location, and descent. We see below us the view he had. Interspersed are title cards with a few words commemorating Walters and his trip. We end at the Forest Lawn columbarium where his ashes are entombed. "A man can't just sit around," he said after his flight.
