Three short films Kypärä (1997), Skin Deep (1997) and "Black Out" (1997) premiered on Finnish television in March 5, 1998 under a title "Uusi Kino: Yhdeksän ylitti Telakkakadun" at Yle TV1 channel. All films were part of the 1995-1996 "Telakka" master class by Neil Hardwick at the University of Art and Design (UIAH), Department of Film and Television in Helsinki, Finland. Hardwick himself introduced the films on television.
The sinking of the MS Estonia in 1994 serves as a backdrop of the film, albeit not specifically mentioned by name. Allu also listens the Mayday message between MS Estonia and MS Silja Europa, where the term "blackout" is heard (referring to a power outage).
