Insanely generic and slow paced...
paul_haakonsen24 August 2022
I like how this movie is labeled as an action thriller. But I am getting ahead of myself here.

When I sat down here in 2022 to watch "Hunting Ava Bravo", from writers Julie Auerbach, Kevin Tavolaro and Marc Blucas, it was doing so without ever having heard about the movie. However, I like the movie's cover, and the synopsis sounded interesting enough. Plus, the fact that I hadn't already seen the movie before, also made me sit down to watch it.

Now, I don't understand the need for hunting Ava here, because the sheer boredom instilled from this movie would be sufficient to do the trick. Man, talk about a slow paced and monotonous movie. And this was an action thriller? I bed to differ. Nothing thrilling about this movie, it was simply too uneventful and slow paced.

The acting in the movie was okay. I wasn't familiar with lead actress Kate del Castillo, but it was fun enough to see Marc Blucas make it to a movie such as this. A shame that they had nothing to work with in terms of script, storyline, character development and dialogue.

Sure, there was potential for a more interesting movie here, but director Gary Auerbach simply squandered it.

If you enjoy action thrillers, then I would strongly suggest that you get your thrills elsewhere, because "Hunting Ava Bravo" simply isn't worth the effort.

The movie's cover was actually the best part about the entire experience.

My rating of "Hunting Ava Bravo" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Something missing
opticuscro4 November 2022
A rating of 4 stars fits this film perfectly, I have no objections. First of all, I must mention that the film obviously has not the slightest originality, so it reminds me of many films I have seen so far with the theme of hunting people by rich people. The film is watchable but on the verge of unwatchability. The story is empty and not well presented, at least that's my opinion. The story is actually a bit pointless and uninteresting in parts, even boring. I watched the whole movie to the end, which is interesting, with very few rewinds, but the whole time I had the impression that something was missing for the movie to be complete, dont know..... this is some below average time killer.

Free budget movie
olcayozfirat24 March 2023
A very badly made thriller made in 2022. The story of the hunted and the hunter trying to be made. But it's made so stupidly that you literally throw an hour and a half away. The characters are crap. The hunter man speaks with a constant grin. The woman thinks she is very smart, but every move she makes is stupid. In general, the transformation of the prey into the hunter creates excitement for the audience. In this movie, there is a grinning type whose purpose is not understood. No tension, no element of fear. A movie was made for free. The man and the woman walked on 20 square meters.

There is no sex or nudity in the movie.

If you can, don't watch this movie

It's a horrible movie to watch. I almost didn't make it to the end. Totally predictable with terrible acting, very weak script. I imagined something else, not something I would watch again.

Don't bother

Who votes for these films?? Absolute waste of time. Terrible acting, ridiculous storyline and a complete waste of 78 minutes! Characters that you don't care if they live or die.

Simply the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Don't bother.
blloctavio8 August 2022
I mean, this is not even worth watching on freebee channels. It is just that bad.

It was basically over in the first three minutes, when the kidnappee bashes the killer in the head (though she could have just stopped him from coming out of the basement in the first place -- after he left a message saying, "I'm coming out of the basement, please don't bash me in the head, as that would not be sporting").

At least no b-roll wolves were harmed.

Predictable but preventable
tread-1272824 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ava is a strong female lead for this movie. She's a survivor, but she failed to execute her captor right at the beginning when she could have. She had all the control and failed to use it, instead we moviegoers had to suffer the full 78 minutes of the back and forth between Ava and her Captor. Had it been me, I would have killed the guy right at the beginning, and headed south or east not north. A person can survive in the coldest of winters if they know how. She would have had all the tools needed to do so. I guess she had to let him live so she could be chased more. Also a Billionaire would have had communications devices like a satellite phone. Billionaire's don't make bad bets. Over-all not a completely horrible movie, but the plot was hard to take and the characters were underdeveloped.

i didn't think it was that bad
ted4806023 August 2022
It was unbelievable, but i have seen a lot worse. It had action and a plot. I like the lead character, because she did a good job, but you can blame her for dialog or the script. I believe she did what was given to her.

Predictable and needed subtitles at times
mwnunes11 September 2022
Overall, not totally bad, but the main character, Ava, at times was speaking either Portuguese or Spanish and there were no subtitles.

Her acting was not great but I think it was mostly to the way she spoke English as some of her lines seemed forced to say.

Other than in back story, there were really only 3 actors and 1 didn't have any lines and just grunted.

The bad guy, a rich action seeker that must be so bored being rich, that he needs to hunt humans that survived something in their lives. He did not seem very believable.

I did make it to the end but only because I had hope that things would get better, but they really didn't.

This is not horrible
idonotexist2 April 2024
I am not sure why people knock so hard.. it really is not horrible or even bad. Yes the whole relationship if we can call it that between the villain and victim is weird for lack of more appropriate adjectives. I feel that the villain was horribly miscast but at the same time, the ending somewhat explains him. We understand why he is doing it and what he wants which if we go back throughout the movie, does make sense. A lot of the stupid things suddenly make sense.

They do try to explain a lot of the stupid things that both characters do.. its not like they do them just for doing them. The script does try to say yes, this is stupid, it makes no sense, but this is why they are doing it... there is a reason for it. It is a lot of choices that aren't really choices. It is easy to forget, she cannot kill him because she needs him; killing him makes it worse for her no matter what. That's a fact of the situation. He cannot kill her, because well, you will see at the end. Once you connect those things, it becomes much more realistic.

The ending i really felt would go the other way of how it went. Maybe i just have a soft spot for lost puppy souls...

I'm not a victim
nogodnomasters7 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ava Bravo (Kate del Castillo) wakes up with a pink unicorn Pillow case on her head. She plays a recorder which tells her she is going to be hunted. To be fair, the hunter will have only three bullets in his high powered rifle with a scope. She is given a compass and instructions to a safe place. Ava quickly turns the table on her captor and ambushes him with the pillow case filled with ice? Eventually he leads her at gun point to a snowmobile.

Most of the film was a lot of dialogue while walking through the snow with occasional swaps of the upper hand. Not the best captive or human hunting film out there. Ava was resourceful, wish they could have dwelt on that aspect.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Budget the Hunt
Stanlee10711 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film has a very similar beginning as the Hunt (2020) which is a satire of what if the previlaged & morally/ politically corrupt were rounded up and forced to play a life and death game. The prize is an escape to freedom & there are no second places: you either live or die. It is stacked against them but whilst you live you have a chance.

This does not have that complex idea rather a lady is kidnapped and forced to play a game (Saw inspired) & within 5 minutes she bests the antagonist.

Instead of killing him with his gun, she spares him & locks him up instead... This must be for plot convenience. There is another mystery man in film.

It is just stupid as it descends down the predictable cat and mouse game in which both of them are trying to out smart one another! It even used the unconventional concept of reserved Stockholm Syndrome! If that doesn't make one shake their head in disbelief & consider ones life choices then I don't know what will... To sum up, avoid this unless you are accustomed to watching a below average film.

Predictable
elkinbernal21 February 2024
Don't waste your time with this movie. It's simple and Kathe's performance is poor and really overacted. If you want be mad then you need to watch this movie. I think The Hunt is better than this i haven't doubt.

Someone could record a better movie with an Iphone and a garage with a couple of friends talking about some confused topic and cause a better impact on you.

Now i need to complete with senseless characters because i don't have anymore to say about this movie... The life is beautiful take care yourself and your family my dear friend. Smile every day and tell you family how much you love them.

Waste of time
finnmccarthy11 July 2023
Hunting Ava Bravo" is a movie that falls short in many aspects. The film is marketed as an action-thriller, but it fails to deliver on both fronts. Here are some reasons why the movie is a major disappointment: Firstly, the movie is slow-paced. Most of the film is filled with dialogue while walking through the snow, which makes it tedious and boring to watch. The scenes are unnecessarily long, and the pacing is off, which makes it difficult to stay engaged with the story. The movie could have benefited from some editing to make it more concise and fast-paced.

Secondly, the acting in the movie is poor. The cast seems bored and uninterested, which is understandable given the bad dialogue they have to deliver. The characters lack depth, and their motivations are unclear, which makes it difficult to care about what happens to them. The performances are wooden and uninspired, which is a shame because the actors are capable of much better.

Thirdly, the movie lacks any real action scenes. Despite being marketed as an action-thriller, the movie fails to deliver any real excitement. There are a few brief moments of violence, but they are few and far between. The action scenes are poorly choreographed, and the camera work is uninteresting, which makes them forgettable.

Finally, the movie fails to provide any explanation for why Ava Bravo is being hunted. The audience is left in the dark about the motivations of the characters, which makes it difficult to understand what is happening. The lack of explanation for the story is frustrating, and it leaves the audience feeling unsatisfied.

In conclusion, "Hunting Ava Bravo" is a movie that fails to live up to its genre and premise. It's slow-paced, poorly acted, lacks action, and fails to provide any explanation for the story. The movie could have benefited from some editing to make it more concise and fast-paced. The performances are wooden and uninspired, and the action scenes are forgettable. It's not worth watching.

Suspenseful and Well Played Out - Not a Victim
thenaves6 March 2023
First off, what makes this movie very good is the premise throughout the movie that this woman is *not* a victim: not only does she remind herself of that very thing multiple times, she also leans on an (unexplored) faith in "the Creator" to summon the courage to go on. In other words, her strength comes from BOTH an inner determination AND her leaning on a faith. In short, this movie quite openly steps past the current cultures pre-occupation with victimhood and hyperbolic (ironically faith driven) declaration of "all you need is found within yourself". As well, guns are portrayed not merely as killing machines but a tool for survival. It's quite obvious that whoever has the gun is going to depend on whether it's used for good or evil. For these reason alone, I'm not surprised by the low score. For me though, it's what made it a winner.

That being said, HAB, is an interesting and atmospheric experience. It is true that not much happens during the movie in the way of action, however it's what's taking place in the meantime that really matters: there were many times I found myself watching the actors' faces intently to "read" the dynamic taking place; fascinated with how scary that must have been for the character; surprised by the constant, shallowing and then deepening, of the characters motives. While other reviews lament what they determine to be "bad acting", I found myself engrossed in analyzing their movements and watching the interactions unfold.

The choice of music at the very beginning and then are a bit suspect... not exactly what i would have chosen, however the soundtrack and suspense track throughout the rest of the movie were spot on. There was one moment that I swore I heard a "knocking" (which added to the anxiety of suspense) but which turned out to just be a cleverly edited soundtrack.

In summary, this movie bucks the current cultures obsession with victimhood, creates a protagonist that is absolutely fine with surviving, and creates a message of leaning into one's pain to find the faith to press forward. In other words, a movie to sit and analyze in real time.

Glad I Watched
justdc411 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Infuriating that Ava didn't shoot Buddy King in the first scene, then three others would be alive. But, even boys who think they are experienced men pick up a gun and can't pull the trigger either. The depth and personality development was so far beyond the comprehension of the negative reviewers, it is not a wonder they didn't enjoy it. Also, some might be of the far too prevalent insecure, cowardly type that simply can't handle a woman being as much a man as they, just happens to be the female of the species. If all one watches are CGI blow up action movies that defy the laws of physics and reality, the brain never develops, especially in empathy and understanding, let alone physics.

At times, I found myself hollering at Ava, calling her dumb, like when she didn't kill him and took only one of her captor's gloves; also, her walking with her finger on the trigger. It was amazing she wasted only one bullet or later didn't shoot Buddy accidentally. His not grabbing the rifle when she was nearly poking him in the nose with it may have been because his actions were calculated and he wanted to wear her down and get more into her head, "the full story." And Buddy, of course, always with his smile of hubris.

His line about them being the same is straight from the coward creed to pull her down to his level, playing the CYA game. Ava was a loner and sad for not having prevented the demise of a seventeen year old the first time she was aggravatedly assaulted; whereas, Buddy was lonely and sad from watching his dad get shot by the police when Buddy did not acknowledge him as his dad. However, Buddy doesn't own his actions; he cowardly blames others.

Although I don't usually read reviews before watching, for Hunting Ava Bravo, I did. Glad I did or I wouldn't have felt compelled to write a review.

For me the film was sufficiently intriguing, attention holding, and entertaining that I never experienced the complaints of many reviewers.

Additionally, Ava's self-talk was fantastic and does work like a charm in the human mind.

This movie was an 8-10, well worth the watch, and could be watched again.
