The deceitful and disgusting film
chronus-769-4823113 June 2021
A propagandistic film made with money from the budget. It has nothing to do with Zoya's true story. Don't waste your time with this rubbish. Better look at the review of this movie from BadComedian. It will be much more informative about true story of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya.

She couldn't act otherwise

Lots of history books have been written about Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya so far, as she was the very first woman to receive the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Schools, streets and warships were named after her. Tankers proudly branded their tanks with "Zoya" name while attacking Berlin. Nonetheless the modern generation knows faintly nothing about what exactly Kosmodemyanskaya became famous for, however, this film's going put everything right.

As you see from the name, the main character here is Zoya herself. We meet her as a schoolgirl who is in love with a nice guy. It's summer ahead, time for relaxation and hope. Everything was good and joyful until the tragic date of June 22 came. It was then that Nazi Germany attacked the USSR, and all the young people headed to the front to defend their country. Zoya also found herself among the volunteers, and here's where the story turns serious.

Kosmodemyanskaya didn't go to a military hospital, didn't enter the disposal of some strategic facility, but picked out a sabotage detachment for herself. It is not easy for even old hand soldiers here, not to mention a fragile girl. Nonetheless Zoya set a target and did everything to make her name go down in history.

The film is fascinating because it is based on the memories of people who lived into the era of Kosmodemyanskaya and might have even known her. In addition, the authors gained access to important historical documents, and therefore the recreation of those tragic and at the same time heroic events corresponds to the canons of truth, which simply cannot be rewritten, no matter how anyone tries.

In the second half a real rough drama begins, since the Germans begin torturing the protagonist and it make you shiver and really frightens. Sensitive audience should take this into account. But I believe that it's quite right to demonstrate such episodes. As we simply have no right to allow anything of the kind to happen in the future!

In general, "Zoya" is a decent movie, which I highly recommend to all connoisseurs of high-quality military cinematography, it shows history as it was. Unvarnished and without falsehood. Look carefully and draw your own conclusions.

The deed of a real person

Recently, I find myself further more interested in the deeds of non-fictional superheroes but real people of flesh and blood. When the disaster breaks, we don't call Batman or Iron Man, but those who can actually come to the rescue. That's why film "Zoya", which have recently appeared on the screens, piqued my interest.

The events shown in the film unfolded in 1941. It was then that Germany crossed the USSR borders. Moscow was totally unprepared for the fact that Hitler would attack so swiftly, consequently Stalin had to make a number of frankly difficult, ambiguous decisions. In order to wipe the Germans out from the houses they occupied in a number of settlements, an order was given to burn entire villages ... Yes, it wasn't easy. But sometimes you're simply stripped of choice.

One of the saboteurs who were assigned the task was the very young Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. She firmly believed that she had to fulfill her duty, and even in the face of the death penalty, she would have never betrayed her colleagues. And I consider this a real time-barred heroism. No comic hero ever comes close to the real deeds of living people, which we will never forget.

There is a special emphasis on the characters, their experiences and hopes. It's been interesting for me to follow the expansion of Zoya character, her family, friends and people around. Stalin was also given a special role and it was shown the way he made decisions.

There're several reasons to watch the film. First of all, it's a historical movie with complex revelations. It has a well-intentioned protagonist with a strong character. Winter puts lightning in your bones, as if you are under the open cold sky. And torture is the most natural - you can't look at them indifferently, but that's the truth. It was all that way. I definitely recommend this film.
