- Unlike the rest of the girls coming to Hollywood with dreams of seeing their name in lights, Carrie Kevin arrives with a single purpose, to protect her cousin Stefy from the dark side of showbiz. A moderately successful pinup model, Stefy uses parties, alcohol, and sex to get ahead like everyone else. But when tabloid sensationalist Evelyn Echo gets a hold of a video tape that could destroy Stefy's career, Carrie has only one choice. To satisfy Evelyn's need for a bigger story, Carrie must become what she hates, a bottom-feeding scene-dweller, and investigate the disappearance of a teenage cyber-lebrity named Jordan Rivers. Lost in the web of chat rooms, fan forums, and online vlogs, Carrie quickly learns that no one is what they seem in the City of Fallen Angels and it is up to her to unravel the conspiracy before she too becomes its victim.—Scott Bridges
- Before leaving her small town in Oklahoma, Carrie Kevin (Sara Fletcher) receives a call from someone in L.A. informing her that a pornographic tape of her cousin Stefy (Kelly Noonan) and her old boyfriend Parker (Griff Furst) is making the rounds. Stefy was the special one, the pretty one, the one who would make it. Carrie seduces Parker into showing his pornographic library to her. She drugs him and sets the videos ablaze only to find that one tape is still missing. She follows the trail of the videotape from Parker all the way to Hollywood, where Stefy is living as a moderately successful pinup model.
On her first day in the big city she meets Zeffer (Travis Brorsen), a harmless grocery store clerk. Despite the attitude she slings at him, he cant help but like her because, unlike all the other girls coming to Los Angeles with dreams of seeing their name in lights, Carrie just wants to protect her cousin.
Her first task is tracking down the conniving Evelyn Echo (Katherine Randolph), founder of The Echo Report, a tabloid website that focuses on the up-and-comers and down-and-outers. Once Carrie locates Echo, she finds an unorthodox way to raise money to buy the tape back.
She also works as a photographers assistant, where she gets her first bad taste of Hollywood from cyberlebrity Jordan Rivers (Leah McKendrick), the all-American girl who has built up a legion of fans through a meticulously structured online performance. Carrie has watched Jordans webcam for months. She even met her online boyfriend, who goes by the username of GavinOfScotland (Bradley Fletcher), on a Jordan fan forum. Jordan may seem sweet, but as she bosses Carrie around, Carrie quickly recognizes her as the patron saint of the deceitful, self-involved Los Angeles. Even Stefy thinks Jordans got the right idea, encouraging Carrie that vlogging is a way to break into the biz. But Carries not interested. She doesnt want to be an Internet star nor does she want to go on the auditions Stefy keeps getting for her.
Meanwhile, Jordan Rivers goes missing, and the Internet fills with tributes and conspiracy theories. GavinOfScotland thinks this is a perfect time for Carrie to make her Internet debut and expose Jordan a fraud. Zeffer, too, encourages her to trade off her cousins semi-fame and break into Hollywood. But only one thing can make Carrie sell out. To keep Stefy safe and save her reputation, Carrie borrows the cash from Evelyn Echo, putting up as collateral the videotape she stole from Parker, and agreeing to work for The Echo Report to find Jordan Rivers.
To start her search, Carrie takes on the screen name CKTwo and quickly pokes holes in the story of Jordans disappearance. The vlogger posing as Jordans brother, Aphid818 (Alex Petrovitch), begins to backtrack in his statements and is clearly lying. Carrie finds a partner in Raychell93 (Christie Burson), a high school acquaintance of Jordan who claims the cyber- sensation stole her boyfriend. They follow the boyfriend, Tarek, who unwittingly leads them to a club in Monrovia where they find Jordan not only safe and free, but partying.
Jordan beats them to the punch by going online and apologizing to her fans. But before she can end the charade, her captors turn the tables and make the kidnapping real.
CKTwo is now a star, but Jordans devoted fans blame her for Jordans life being in danger. Carrie has to search even harder for Jordan, both to redeem herself and to get Evelyn Echo off her back, who is threatening to release the tape of Stefy. As Carrie depends more on her new friends Raychell93 and Zeffer, people she doesnt really know, her paranoia increases. Aphid818 seems to be stalking her, GavinofScotland ditches her, and this Tarek guy seems to know their every move. Stefy discovers how Carries been paying the bills and kicks her out. While crashing at Zeffers, Carrie witnesses an intimate moment between him and Raychell93. Though she wasnt interested in Zeffer before, she cant help but feel jealous. But Zeffer isnt who holds Raychell93s interest.
Annoyed at Carrie, Raychell93 goes to meet with Tarek at the same Monrovia bar. Carrie returns to Stefys loft when Stefy shows up in tears. Evelyn has leaked the tape to the world and Stefy thinks her career is ruined. Fearing for Raychell93s safety, Carrie bails on Stefy, but not before telling her the whole reason she came to Los Angeles and that it was she who gave Echo the tape. Feeling defeated, Carrie rushes to Raychell93 only to find her friend dead in the bathroom stall of the abandoned bar.
What will Carrie discover if she finds Jordan? Is the kidnapping real or not? How far does the conspiracy really go? Exactly how much danger is Carrie in if she figures it all out? Is this all getting too real...or too fake? After all, Hollywood stories have happy endings but it depends on whos doing the telling.
