- Our story begins with the introduction of the Tottenham theologian as he embarks on a vocation in the Church of England. The world of the social climber now intrudes upon polite society and the conflict within our story thereby begins.
- At the opening of our film there exists two separate worlds in Battersea - the world of the social climber, and the world of Oxbridge graduates - each containing a small group of characters upon whom we focus the audiences' interest. Our drama consists in the collisions of these two worlds that stand in direct opposition to each other. Both of these worlds rarely come into contact with each other except through the Tottenham Theologian who weaves his way between Tottenham and Battersea.—Anonymous
- After being socially excluded from All Souls Langham Place, sacked from a voluntary position at Premier Christian Radio, dismissed from being the South East representative of the Religious and Theological Studies Fellowship wing of the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship, and having his place withdrawn from Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University as a result of informing Rev. Richard Bewes that he was 'invited' rather than 'accepted' on a mission with Operation Mobilisation to the Czech Republic, the Tottenham Theologian decides to stay in Tottenham and pay off his debts by working as a steward at the Barbican Centre. During that time, he saves enough money to apply to Cambridge University, Durham University and Exeter University to study Theology. He is accepted unconditionally at university, and goes on to become socially mobile leading to him moving out of Tottenham. This documentary picks him up at a time when he is saying goodbye to a life in Tottenham and entering the middle classes.
