One Of The Worst Ideas For A Pre-Movie Short
jeremycrimsonfox24 August 2023
I never liked Angela Anaconda, making me one of those people who a show most people will actually like, as it was one of Fox Kids' popular shows at the time. When Digimon: The Movie, which can be desribed as a "Frankenstein's movie", as Fox and Saban basically took the first three Digimon short movies and edited them into one film while rewriting the story for the first two in order to connect them to the third movie (as the third one is set in the time of Season 2, the current season airing at the time), so to pad out the remaining time, and to do something similar to the Pokémon films' Pikachu short adventures and Pixar's short films they make to air before their movies, they made this as a way to promote Angela Anaconda, and sadly, this short would end up being one of the reasons why Digimon: The Movie is not well recieved by some fans of the anime.

In this short, Angela and her friends go to see the Digimon movie, but when her nemesis Nanette causes trouble (even calling in Mrs. Brinks to block Angela's view), Angela has a daydream where she becomes Angelamon to fight Nanette piloting a giant robot looking like Mrs. Brinks.

Seeing this, I can why it is not liked by many Digimon fans. Confirmed by Jeff Nimoy, writer and voice of Tentomon, that this short was added at the last minute to the point he didn't know about it until the night of the movie's premiere, the short is terrible due to it having bad jokes and being mostly Angela becoming a Tai rip-off in her revenge fantasy known as Angelamon. I think whether one will like it or not will depend of whether the person has seen Angela Anaconda and is into that kind of show. However, this short would be one of the reasons why this got Digimon: The Movie a low rating among critics and viewers (as well as the fact that three months later, the short would be reworked into an actual episode of Angela Anaconda, which replaces the Digimon: The Movie images with a generic monster movie and generic monster characters, although Angela still keeps the Tai rip-off form).
