Informative...yet heartbreaking.
During the early years of WWII, many British parents were worried about their children. After all, the Blitz was coming and the bombings did end up killing about 70,000. So, facing this crisis, many families chose to send their children to safety....mostly to Canada but some to America. What the film did NOT say is that many were also sent to parts of the UK that were considered safe--such as rural Scotland. This show is about this campaign as well as the costs of such evacuations. In particular, when the war was over, many of these kids did NOT want to return home as they now had new homes and people they thought of as their parents. The result of these very sad interviews is tough to watch and you might want to have some Kleenex nearby...it's just a sad no-win situation and one that is surprisingly absent from most history books...which tend to focus on wars and famous folks...not the children caught in the middle. Very well made and worth seeing.
