Welcome to Hope Valley
ISmellSnow22 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There are a lot of storylines developing in this episode. Things are still a bit awkward for Lucas and Elizabeth in the beginning, but at the end of the episode, we see Elizabeth taking her own advice and reaching out to him first. She apologizes to him and he apologizes to her. She admits to him that she is no longer seeing Nathan. Lucas asks her what that could mean for the two of them and she says they will just have to wait and see.

Nathan's inquiry begins. Superintendent Hargraves tries to twist words around, making Nathan look guilty. Bill confronts Nathan about what happened in Fort Clay and why Hargraves would hold a grudge against him. Nathan tells Bill what happened, but the viewers are left to believe that there is more to the story. Did Nathan know Jack? Bill also has a hilarious scene where he slams his chair "accidentally" getting the attention of the other Mounties in the inquiry. He states his objection, to help Nathan out. Allie has been very concerned for Nathan in the whole episode and finally goes to do something about it. She barges in on the inquiry and tells them how Nathan is all that she's got, and that he's a good man. Very great acting from the actress who plays Allie. Elizabeth witnesses Allies speech. Afterwards, Hargraves recommends that no further action be taken on Nathan so he is free.

Elizabeth welcomes the new family, the Canfields, to Hope Valley! She meets them all and brings books for the children. Cooper is 10 and Angela is 14. It is revealed that Angela is blind. Elizabeth wants to assure Minnie that she will soon be able to teach Angela but Minnie is too protective. These are some very touching scenes, especially when Elizabeth hears Angela play the piano.

Clara and Jesse are working through their money issues. Carson and Faith are on rocky ground but are trying to figure out their relationship. I don't see this relationship lasting much longer, unfortunately.

With Faiths advice, Molly goes to the dress shop searching for the perfect dress to impress Bill. She wears it to the saloon but Bill is so distracted that he barely acknowledges her. Luckily, Molly is still confident. Later in the street, Bill walks by Molly and Florence and comments "that was some dress, Molly." Looks like it got Bills attention after all :)

Lee's sister Susannah and niece Rachel come for a visit. Rosemary and Lee are trying to keep up with Susannahs strict rules but it all comes to a head when Rachel comes in wearing modern clothes/makeup. Susannah takes out her frustration on Rosemary, prompting Rosemary to go for a walk. When she returns, Susannah apologizes and admits that Bellingham is no place to raise a child and wants Rachel to stay with Lee and Rosemary. Rosemary immediately accepts.

In the end, Elizabeth asks Nathan if he knew Jack and again he says he didn't. I think there much more to the story.

Overall it was a busy episode. I'm pretty confident that Faith and Carson will not be a couple for much longer. I also think Clara and Jesse will continue to struggle, too. Rosemary and Lee will be learning how to parent with Rachel now living with them so that will be interesting to see. I think there is significance that Lucas is watching when Allie and Elizabeth storm into Bills office during the inquiry. I'm not sure how to feel about the love triangle just yet. Still seems like it can go either way. Loving the FloMo moments. Great acting from all.

Heart and Humor

Warning: Spoilers
Compelling main storyline this episode. Moving introduction of the entire Canfield family, especially the daughter (personally, I found that to be one of the most moving scenes in the whole series). Humor with Molly.

Inconsistent Writing
storytelling10111 May 2021
Inconsistent writing: figuring it out as they go along, leads to a not well-thought out resolution in the finale. Kevin McGarry and Jaeda Lily Miller truly shine in their scenes regarding the inquiry. Jack Wagner is wonderful too. A truly great storyline.

Worst Season of any show I've watched
thebuzz-27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is not the When Calls the Heart from seasons past. This is When Calls the Lust. The previous show runner had it all planned for a beautiful love story between Elizabeth and Nathan. He created a foundation and the chemistry between Elizabeth and Nathan was off the charts. But for some reason the new writer came in like a wrecking ball and destroyed everything. Even during this season we were led to believe Love is Worth Fighting For, overcoming your fears. What we were given was love is never worth fighting for and to never overcome fears. Plus the shiny, superficial character who has had everything given to him gets the girl, while the Hero of the story is put through hell and then beaten down again at the end. It felt sadistic!

Terrible Writing
thebuzz-27 June 2021
Inconsistent writing. Did the writer even watch past seasons?! The saving grace of this episode was the performance by Kevin, Jaeda and Jack. They were flawless. The rest of the episode was like a very bad soap opera.
