A famous editor from Marseille, Adrien Grenna, hosts a cultural event about Alexandre Dumas on the Frioul islands, with a theatre play based on "The Count of Monte-Cristo" as the highlight of the day. In the middle of the show, the body of the editor is found on stage. A young police captain from Marseille, Victor Mariani, is in charge of the investigation, but his father Pierre, a well-known retired commissioner from Lyon and former army comrade of the victim, gets to be appointed as a consultant on the case thanks to his relations. Pierre was on the crime scene, as he had been invited by his old friend, though they hadn't seen each other in 20 years... He wants to find the murderer.
