Disappointing

I waited for this movie to be on platforms for so long, it definitely didn't meet the expectations, the ending was poorly executed and the personality that was given to the killer felt a little too force. I don't know.

I really enjoyed the movie, except for the ending

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie a lot, even with it's major flaws.

As a heads up, I watched the movie with dodgy subtitles, so I might have misunderstood the ending.

English is also not my native language, so sorry in advance.

The pacing is very good, and I can get behind most of the characters. The vibe, sound and cinematography are all excellent, nothing to complain about.

Though the ending is rushed and dosen't fell whole.

The characters act irrationally and things don't really add up at the end.

Whilst there are no loose ends, it stills feels very rushed and not excecuted properly sadly.

The main characters personality changes dramatically and whilst I can understand it, that might fit the story, there is no realy build up to it sadly, meaning that it feels pretty sudden.

One of the police officers also does something very extrem and unforseen, which caught me off guard (though this might have been the intention)

And there is of-course the gaping plot hole which unfolds after the MC gets a call from the killer, making him act irrationally and fitting right into the trope of the partner rushing to his SO because they're in danger without knowing about it.

Then again, the SO not being protected is another gigantic plothole, which dosen't make sense to me at all.

The mc is also apperently able to be faster than the police in a cab (Part of the events after the killers call)

The finals scenes of the movie are pretty interesting in my opinion. I think they hint at the MCs and the killers personalitys sort of merging, which I find interesting, since it was being hinted at in a previous scene, and the characters are not so different, atleast in my opinion.

There is also a sorf of cliffhanger, but it isn't well made in my opinion.

Sorry for this incoherent mess of thoughts

Tl;dr Movies good but hard to find, ending sort of ruins it thoug.

Not bad at all.

This is a reasonably good thriller, there are some good suspenseful scenes, the story is somewhat predictable but still interesting.

I can't speak about the dialogue because I watched it with english subs and they were probably not very accurate. And because of that I may have missed some point the script was trying to make, I don't know. For instance, the much-criticized ending maybe had some hidden meaning, some wordplay with the movie's title or something.

Acting was credible. Of course, there are cultural differences that will make some characters' reactions or dialogues seem odd. Nothing too serious, tho.

I think 6 is a fair rating, slightly above averange. Entertaining if you have nothing better to watch.

Great film

I wasn't expecting much and hadn't heard anything about this film before watching it. It surpassed my expectations. It wasn't the best film ever but probably the best thriller to come out of Japan in the last five years.

Entertaining until the end (spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
Overall the movie was well paced, until the last 20 minutes.

The acting and presentation was good, not excessively gory to distract from the story, but also did not shy away from important scenes.

Villain's acting was lacking compared to the rest, but Masaki stole the show.

*Spoilers* The plot was reasonably with the character's motives and logic up until the last 20 minutes. The entire ending would change if Yoahimura waited 2 seconds, hell he was able to call a cab somehow in less time than a police escort that was right beside him? And a taxi cab beat the police by minutes.

They could have made the villain more cunning by cutting off the electricity or fooling a security guard or something, but no, they just used the stupid trope of mc rushes to his loved one and makes a foolish decision getting caught offhand, and if only the police were with him, except 2 minutes before, they were.

Then the wife is helpless and can't run. Maybe make her at 9 months pregnant or something to make it believable, or show her immobility beforehand.

Then they make the mc into Joker, which comes off as cartoonist and forced, without any hint of his transformation before.

Until the ending the movie was a solid 7-8/10, but the ending just ruined it.

Great movie

Warning: Spoilers
God this movie was spectacular. I've heard a lot about this movie being overrated after I watched it, but I loved it. The visuals are stunning, not the best but very nice. The scenes have been stuck in my head for a couple days now. It was a bit predictable, as many people really pointed out. It followed many predictable tropes but in a well executed way. It still felt enthralling to me personally. The character of the killer was also a very interesting take. I felt he could have been a bit more unsettling for the art of storytelling, however; I found that they did portray him in a very realistic yet uncanny way that I can appreciate. I'm not sure the direct of the script, because I did watch with subtitles as I do not understand Japanese. But from what I understood, the emotions were very present. This was especially apparent through speech and symbolism. The twist with the family of four being from a cult felt very random and unfinished, but overall gave it a good ending. Wonderful plot as a whole. And despite using very clearly fake bodies the death scenes still felt harsh in my soul unlike many I've seen just for the gruesomeness of the context. It felt disturbing and I could genuinely feel that as the character who experienced it carried forward. On that note, it had a wonderful setup as well. Something in the office along the notes of your art is beautiful and your concepts are good but you've clearly not been disturbed enough to make horror. The turn of fate, the way it shows the sacrifices And potential sacrifices for such an innocent seeming goal were beautiful. Overall, the visuals could have been better and some plot points could have been elaborated but it was still a wonderfully executed movie. A lot of power behind it and definitely worth a watch.
