I think this was the best episode of the series. Brenda's ego was kept in check for the most part. Although some of the detectives expressed bigotry due to the same sex relationship, it did not come from the chief (this time). The guest stars were well chosen. Eric Beal as "the boyfriend" was spot on. I think the medical examiner, Morales, came into his own in this particular episode. His knowledge provided the base for the investigation.

The bond that the boyfriend had with the victim was stronger than that of the parent. The parent basically sacrificed the son for money. Money > > more than family.

I am a newcomer to the series, but thanks to the replaying of old episodes on TNT, I have come to really admire it and look forward to it. Congratulations to the whole cast on such fine, consistently well-acted episodes. Great casting choices for guest roles as well. There have been instances where I have been moved to tears in the committed artistry of the actors. The Closer certainly deserves all of the awards it has garnered.

In watching this episode, I was a little dismayed at the homophobic undertones of the detectives, but thank you so much though, Kyra, for changing it all around at the end by having your character present the money to the boyfriend of the deceased. It was truly a great touch and it warmed my heart.
