Fun to watch but definitively not a masterpiece.
sophouli22 November 2022
The story is about a gang who performs a jewelry heist, and while trying to get away, they hide in a beach house, where they are holding captive/hostages the 2 women living there.

The way the events take place in this series, is really unexpectable, but not because of the plot twists. The unexpectable part refers to the characters' interactions.

I didn't know what to expect from this show but for me it was surprisingly pleasant.

In order to recommend it though, the questions here are: Is it enjoyable to watch? Yes!

Is it amazingly good? Well, no!

So, is it worthy to watch?

In my opinion, it depends on what you are looking for.

If you want a short, fun, interesting and kinda weird tv show to watch then you will probably like it.

If you are looking for a realistic and profound show, then just skip it. It does not target this kind of audience.

Generally 6/10.

Leopard Jett
twonebody25 December 2022
From the makers of Jett brings you Leopard Skin a Murder Mystery Jewel Heist Romance Thriller starring Carla Gugino, Gaite Jansen, Amelia Eve and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

First of all the filming location is quite stunning and beautiful to look at. I like the cast of characters with each passing episode we learn more about who these people are. Leopard Skin is quite stylized with quirky dialogue. The ending of the show still have a few unanswered questions about the heist. Do I want a season 2 of Leopard Skin? NO! Jett has too big of a cliffhanger to be just left alone so here's hoping Jett will get a season 2.

Needs more shine to be great
numbercool19 October 2023
It honestly feels like there is a solid very david lynchian movie that would be great. Im honestly disappointed it could not have had a higher budget and been a movie. The character of fausto was interesting and could have been worked on more. Loved the dynamic between alba and batty, the weird sexual tension and genuine desire they had. The maid was a hoot and the rest of the cast was ok. The sudden weird cuts were jarring. They plot meanders when it could just get to the point. The comedy though subtle was delightful to witness. I think. Batty was my favorite character a tortured and odd individual who looks like she has it together but really doesn't. I would like to see a remake of this in the future.

Warning: Spoilers
What i liked about this show is how the characters identities kept shifting and evolving but ultimately the sexual aspect became ham-fisted, like it was written by a horny 13 year old who imagines women all turn into lesbians as soon as they're left alone together. I couldn't see any basis to the relationship between the two main characters other than they're alone in this house together and bored. The way the blonde girl's abusive relationship with her pompous man was portrayed as empowering because she's just playing dumb left me confused as to how the writer/director wanted me to feel about either character. I saw shades of david foster wallace in the writing but he would have given the characters more defined identities rather than left them as set pieces dancing around the nebulous concept of female empowerment.

So i liked how the characters identifies kept shifting and evolving but ultimately i think the series suffered from their lack of defined identities? That sounds contradictory but they should have reached identity definition at some point which i felt never happened. Maybe it's meditating on how maleable people are and how they adapt to their envorinment but no one tried to side with the robbers which could have made for an interesting subplot so idk.

Psychological Games and Dark Comedy
ropoxab18 November 2022
Some oth4r reviewers have pointed out this show's main appeal is the love story at its center and the psychological games between two of the characters and how unhinged and finally satisfying that is. It messes with your expectations but is handled so well by the writer and the two actors at the center (to not give away spoilers). Also the setting is like a dream with all the ocean waves always coming in and out and the repeating images of the 3 different characters gliding in the pool as the ownership of the villa evolves. I was surprised how fast the episodes feel even when the tangents they take you on are unexpected. Favorite characters: Alba, Batty and Maru. This gets funnier and weirder as it goes along. I would binge season 2 easily.

Great start, weird finish
ggocats31 January 2024
Loved the first four episodes, skipped my way through bits of the last three. Enjoyed the shortness of the episodes.

I mostly enjoyed the premise, and the twist of perspectives, but I got a bit tired and confused in what I was supposed to get out of it.

There is a lot of female nudity and the camera follows their bodies frequently. For the most part it's not overdone, but it's also certainly not something that you would watch on a mobile device.

The cinematography is generally beautiful, and there is occasional comedy in unexpected places.

Having said all that, ep 7 rejuvenated my interest and the finale was ... an ending, but still left me with confusion.

I think it could have been a pretty cool 95-minute movie.

T and A with a side of ridiculous
chrisshea6618 November 2022
I love Carla Gugino and have since the 90s when Son in Law came out. She's as talented as she is beautiful. That said, this is simply a boring hostage story with a bunch of sexy woman, doing ridiculous things and showing skin in the process.

Twenty years ago that alone may have been reason to watch, but not today when there's easier ways to see some skin while also having actual terrific shows to watch on many platforms.

The "bad guys" are boring, the heist was cheesy, the ending rushed and unoriginal. The actors themselves are all obviously talented. And these are some of the sexiest woman you'll find so if you're looking for 8 episodes of eye candy, go for it!

But all in all, its a waste of time. Just watch two episodes and you'll get everything you'd want out of this, because the rest is just more of the same. Watching all 8 adds nothing to the story.

Hidden Gem
hezekiahe30 November 2022
Not a crime drama in any conventional sense this is a continuation of JETT and that show's style palette of brash colors influenced by film noir and classic women's pictures of the 1940's. Gutierrez knows his way around complicated femme fatales and plays with time, using the jewelry heist gone wrong (itself a noir staple) to get down to the real business he's after: the days and months leading up to the present and the psychological and philosophical quests of the various female characters, especially Batty (Gaite Jansen from Peaky Blinders, astounding) and the director's perpetual muse Gugino (perhaps better than ever).

This is an extremely confident 4 hour movie split into bite sized chunks for the binge generation.

Highly recommended.

short binge
SnoopyStyle16 January 2023
Fausto Malon (Gentry White), Sierra Loba (Nora Arnezeder), and Clover Braun (Margot Bingham) are on the run after a diamond heist. They seek a temporary hideout at a seaside estate. They take Alba Fontana (Carla Gugino) and Batista 'Batty' Ferreira (Gaite Jansen) hostage. The women's relationship is secretive and they are hosting a dinner for director Max Hammond (Philip Winchester) and his trophy girlfriend Maru (Amelia Eve).

This starts as a crime drama spiced with a bit of tropical Spanish flavor. It's a little quirky, a lot of sexy, and a bit mysterious. Then it turns into an S&M drama. It's not the usual cartoon leather-bound costume play. It's more emotional and powerful. It's eight episodes. Each episode is only thirty minutes. It's a little odd to have a drama shorten to that length. A few things are a bit off-kilter in this show. All in all, this is a fascinating short binge. The story doesn't seem to have much room to go for a second season unless Jeffrey Dean Morgan leads the Walking Dead gang to look for the diamonds. I'm assuming that this is a limited series.

Boring and disappointing and that's the spoiler.
windsorenquirer19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"A criminal gang fleeing a botched jewelry heist is forced to hide out in a beach side estate where two women live in seclusion...." Sounds interesting and the first episode starts quite well. Even the second is not that bad. But the next 3 episodes are extremely boring, just talking talking talking and narration, narration, narration. Not much about the gang or heist but all about what happened between those 2 women (and another one as well) some time ago, their relations and how they are connected to each other. Only the last 2 episodes are finally more about the gang but.... then... out of the blue it ends. I don't think I'll be watching season 2.

Hot Hot Hot Binge
nelir-4469417 November 2022
Wow!!!! This is totally different than Jett (which Cinemax couldn't sell right but is on HBO Max) with some of the same actors like a parallel universe Jett. Carla Gugino is of course senselesly beautiful (when isn't she?) tOTally fierce in this story that has comedy, music, sex, violence and like something more esoteric? Amelia Eve (with Carla in Bly Manor) and Ana De La Reguera are the funny parts and the criminal gang is the scary part. And they do that well. I won't spoil how slick Negan is in this but also be prepared for the most intriguing relationship between two women on television. Fire! All the women are standouts. Gaite Jensen (Tatiana from Peaky Blinders) is heartbreaking!!! Peacock is really showing stepping up their game making something this fresh.

So weird
dogonlion9 May 2023
This series starts with a heist and people talking forcefully all over the place. Then there are flashbacks like in most shows today. Then the flashback becomes the show and you forget the heist. It's like you're in 2 different shows. Like the writer had 2 ideas but only one show. It tries to be too smart for its own good. After a while you're left wondering "what am I watching?" Carla Gugino is always good but following her boyfriend Sebastian Gutierrez through all his endeavors is not a good idea for her career. The acting in general is good here except for the heist crew. Gentry White is a terrible actor. He overacts every scene he's in. He also acts the same way no matter what show he is on. Nora Arnezeder (Sierra) has the most annoying shaky voice. She also overacts big time. They were told to be tough criminals but they just don't do it right. Some have mentioned the nudity and sex. As in most shows today the most explicit sex had to be between 2 women. Have heterosexuals become the minority in this world? Anyway, here's another show most people will never hear about.

I am So In Love
vaseca28 November 2022
With these two. I can't stop thinking about them.

The inner monologues are off the hook.

The setting.

The music.

The two of them. Y'all know which two. Those two. I don't want to give spoilers. They are everything.

I liked them in JETT as well which now I'm bingeing because of Leopard Skin.

I don't have more to say that doesn't give away the plot of my favorite love story on tv. So I will just reprint the description which is not at all the delirious, crazy, passionate show this is: "Leopard Skin" is a thriller set in a remote beachside estate in Mexico, where former documentarian Alba Fontana (Carla Gugino, "The Haunting of Hill House") lives. When a criminal gang that includes Fausto Malone (Gentry White) flees a botched heist, they take shelter at the estate.

Elusive Lynchian Dream
siveli-3613920 November 2022
This is bonkers in the raddest way. Cannot wait to see what season 2 is about. But beware: not an action story like the trailer promises, very light gunplay and zero gore. This is more art house mystery with wicked humor and strong women not afraid to be vulnerable.

Unexpected all around, go in with an open mind if you like any of the cast and you will be entertained.

As the story moves backwards and forwards you get a whole different idea of what you first thought about each character and some of it is laugh out loud funny with razor sharp dialogue and some of it is uncomfortable in a way that you eventually accept but are like wtf and then it's so fast it's over and you catch your breath. Fantasy Island never looked this appealing.

Tropical Head Games
susana-178555 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Diamonds, dinner guests, dream sequences, time shifts, perspective shifts, poison, s&m romance, musical interludes...

After the mostly straightforward JETT, the director of the twisted ELIZABETH HARVEST has really gone off the reservation here. The prompt seems to be: make a different kind of series that doesn't play by the same old rules of engagement.

So what is it - psychological thriller? Mystery? Comedy? Love story? Gutierrez has produced such an entertaining series that it does not seem to matter.

Gugino and Jansen are engaging leads and newcomer Eve and scene stealer De La Reguira provide many laughs. Jett alumni Gentry White smolders and barks orders at everyone and looks like he was chiseled into shape by Rodin.

The isolated setting and constant reminder that nature is all around us only adds to the Lewis Carroll dream vibe.

This is a delightful head trip I shall revisit more than once.

My Husband And I Got Into A Fight Over This
rofame-7832322 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Holy smokes. Just finished Leopard Skin. I was totally not expecting anything that came outta it. And I enjoyed every minute. At first my husband was like yeah an action show, then he was like wtf there's a bunch of confused women talking about their sad past and then... then without giving anything away he came around to saying, you know what, I was wrong, this is pretty cool even though its geared more towards the female characters than the action... and then we got into a fight because he couldn't stop talking about how hot the women are in it... and then he got jealous because the guys are smoking hot too and there is some openminded sexuality not made a big deal of. And then we finished it and laughed a little and cried a little and turned off the lights.

Not for dummies, demands attention. Highly original.

Unexpectedly addictive
mfrostbusiness23 January 2023
I watched the first episode of this quite simply because Carla Gugino was in it. I like her work generally and figured it would be something like say "Jett".

It wasn't. It's hard to completely describe this series without giving spoilers, so let me say it's like an anthology that is never the less interconnected. The connection to episode one may not come until episode four, etc., and this is part of the genius of the writing. The series is a little bit like Pulp Fiction, in the sense that it is a series of connected vignettes.

And speaking of the writing, I was certainly impressed. Actually no was first notch, direction was outstanding, principal photography was beautiful, and the editing was done very well in the telling of a most nonlinear story.

And for people who like eye candy (male and female), there is a large supply of it as the series tells a very sexy story. If you like beautiful female buts, you'll be in heaven. If you are prude about such things, this series is NOT for you.

There are no ugly characters in this entire movie, and everyone is pretty much smoking hot in their own quirky way.

All the sexiness aside, the writing is rather philosophical and there's some wonderful little gems of human relationship sprinkled all through the series. Usually when writers and directors go down the sexy road of strategy, storytelling suffers, but not here. This was a interesting story with a satisfying ending.

I did not expect to like this series as much as I did, but it became pretty addictive from the first episode. I also like that the episodes are only a half hour long, which makes it easy to start and stop the series in between your life schedule.

And oh yes, Carla Gugino just shines in it and just about every way.

If they make a season two, I will absolutely bite.

Totally Original Program
hofor-7841422 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Here is a series unlike any other series in 2022

The description and the trailer are a joke compared to the depths it plumbs.

This is a metaphysical journey sprinkled with bizarre humor and off the wall characters that seem to bounce around in circles laughing in the face of death. Like the story is saying standard cable criminal fare is clichéd and overdone and instead finding surprising new jumping off points to delve into the protagonists vertiginous psyches.

You could do a whole college course on dom/sub dynamics and still miss the poetic and life affirming messiness on display here. Yes this is a sexy show in a way that relishes the mysterious discomfort of human connections but the fact that is is parsed out in 30 minute chunks on a commercial network is too delicious to be true. There are no "Real Housewives" in this improved parallel universe only warrior women who stand together and refuse to go down without a fight.

Brilliant and quirky masterpiece.
baftaaward-905678 January 2023
How this series has a lower score than Jett is beyond me. This show is wildly unpredictable and exciting. My mind works like an automatic puzzle solving machine when I watch a show/film and usually predict the end very quickly, but with this show...? Ha. Not on your life.

I have found myself thinking back to this incredible show numerous times since watching and I am left wishing that there would be a sequel as I rather resent that the ride is over. I just want to see what happens to a few, certain characters as they really ended up being quite endearing.

I hope that Carla and Sebastion make more shows like this as they do it sooooo well. They understand love.

Deliciously Wicked
jepohuzo12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say Carla Gugino is a very special actress, her ability to make you believe, smile and cry are amazing, as Alba you feel for her almost to the point of being jealous of her , I know she has a big following with the fan boys for her comic book credentials and work in Watchmen and Haunting Of Hill House but in this series she is delicious as a morally confounded ex wife who has been tossed aside and develops an unusual relationship with her former husband's new wife. I've been a big fan of Carla since I saw how well she acted in The Buccaneers where she actually had me in tears!!! She is a very believable actress that blends into whatever she does whether its flirting with Antonio Banderas in Spy Kids or committing crimes in Jett or charging for her company in Center Of The World she seems to do it so easily. Don't miss it, I guarantee you will not be disappointed , put it this way I would work with her any day lol.

One of the most unconventional (but most pleasantly genre-tastic) shows of the past 25 years.
xisage9 January 2023
In the world of Leopard Skin, we're brought along with characters on a situation that would seem surreal on a Bunuel level (i.e. Three hapless thieves break into a house where the hostages aren't all that afraid of them and have much bigger, more perverse problems hanging over their heads), but there's a a sort of freewheeling existentialist bent to it that elevates it past being either too strange or just too quirky. It's just about right, which is tough to do.

At different times it behaves like a romp, like a thriller, like a drama about women who have been mistreated by a powerful man, like a French sex comedy, it has dark undertones that somehow transform into a love story that folds all the pieces together. It's crazy, it's awkward, and it's even got heart too. For those who are tired of spoon-fed tripe by the streamers it's an excellent escape into one of the most unconventional (but most pleasantly genre-tastic) shows of the past 25 years.

erotica without the porn or at least mostly without the porn
TomV19611228 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
At 28 minutes per episode, the pacing is much tighter than the normal TV series which makes binging easy and pleasant. There is a lot of female nudity and one lesbian sex scene that is truly erotic without being overly pornographic. The build-up to the sex scene is masterful as the screen chemistry between Carla Gugino (Alba) and Gaite Jansen (Batty) is something special. In particular, Gaite's submissiveness is very well acted and shows she did some serious research for the role.

The action part is well done but not central to the story and is more of a backdrop for telling the story of the four women who are kidnapped. The killings are done realistically and I especially liked the proper trigger discipline when the professionals were handling a gun.

Hope there is a season 2.
