It's passable but not good
ycaliff1 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The animation and acting is trying to make it look good and I give credit to those who worked hard to make this possible. However the story line, and the need to continue off G4 with character who act out of place from the movie for the sake of a clique show trope just feels wrong. G4 had so much to the table and the fact they want to dishonor many cans by throwing away potential for cash grabs and merchandise feels quite shallow. What's frustrating is all the potential seen in the movie, the hype built off the G4 feels thrown away because they want to make something cheap that sells. Dad just honestly sad. All the potential for character arc is thrown away because they choose to focus on what I see as pointless episodes, and well it feels like the characters are dumbed down to "play into the villains plan" which is enviable to fail, over and over too much...as a fan of G4 with the music, character growth, and world building.. it's just well a disservice to viewers and a mockery of the build up of mlp of G4 when they need to correlate G4 to G5 for storyline purposes, but that's just it... it feels like they just choose to forget that and have some silly episode that honesty comes off boring. However I will leave 5/10 because it could change, maybe this is just a trial and they wanted to see how people would react, and see peoples upset feelings toward it, maybe there more to come and potential, but if it continues as I see it... this series is just a shameless cash grab for merchandise and money off what they can get. I hope it's not the case.

Just very disappointed.
cripsykiranailc4 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a Irish fan of My Little Pony, actually, the entire franchise since 2014 or 2015. As a kid, I loved watching Friendship is Magic, Generation 1 and sometimes G3. 8 months ago, I watched the movie of the new G5, waited months for the show and this, I was expecting to be good, but, it was a mediocre way to start the G5 series, alongside Tell Your Tale.

Was very disappointed, the animation quality had dropped, the colours are a bit too bright and the lighting is just awful. Compares to the film, the animation's quality was completely fine. But here, it is just... average. The plot is also generic and bland, with a lot of plot holes around the place. And I really don't like how when ponies get angry of argue, thunderstorms come. Those this means ponies cannot get mad anymore? We all have feelings, okay? This is just stupid.

And the cast... well, it is okay so far, nothing to say about that. But however, I do like the songs and some scenes of the film.

This is just a disappointment, just like Tell Your Tale and Pony Life, I probably won't watch the series, but I will try, I am just not happy how they changed the animation with generic plot. It just lacks so much charm from the previous shows, unlike the G5 2021 movie, with keeps so much charms from the franchise, with shelter plot and trying to be more interesting. 5/10.

just as good as MLP: FIM, as long as you are more concerned about the canon than the audience
This series is just as good, if not better, than the previous generation! But why are they cancelling it I hear?

The cast may be different completely (I don't know why they had to recast it, but I enjoy hearing Robert Tinkler's vocal effects), but they still carry the characters' personalities well. The animation may not be as realistic as the movie and not as in-this-world as the previous series, but it's colourful and vivid, and shows that it's the same world but just evolved. The songs are AMAZING and honestly hard to stop listening to (especially those by AJ Bridel and Sofia Wylie), those enthusiastic vocal chords and electronic sound mixing is rev-olu-tionay (as Pipp Petals would say)! Some stuff is pretty questionable (especially one episode where a character's mother forces her children to annually sit still for hours, risking heart disease and cancer, so just be aware), but viewing overall it is a just-as-good-as-ever installment of the franchise.

So, what the issue with the show's history? It's the upcoming CANCELLATION, that's right, cancellation! And why is this? It's all because of a spin-off series "Tell Your Tale", which happens to be more popular with the targeted younger audience. What all wrong with this decision? Well, "Tell Your Tale" is actually set in the MLP Calarts universe (the same setting as the "Pony Life" series) rather than Canon Equestria, which means that the animation style is much worse (as well as bad messages, bad logic, ect.) and that they are at risk of abandoning the universe of "Friendship is Magic". If anything, they should cancel "Tell Your Tale", so that "Make Your Mark" can have the popularity it deserves. Although TYT was better than I expected (not complete rubbish, it was a funny comparison sometimes), it was nowhere near as good as MYM (the worst installment of the franchise I've seen, I'd even go as far as to say it was bad for kids) and is irrelevent since it is not canon!

What they should do, is make this series go for 9 seasons (just like FIM did), and then make a trilogy of movies (theatrical, I do not want Netflix to take over) that can explain the overall timeline of all canon MLP generations and reveal the MLP multiverse (which has at least 3 or 4 worlds at this point).

Great Netflix show about magical rainbow-colored ponies.
retrorainbow-6000524 September 2022
-THE ANIMATION-

MYM is considerably less polished than the MLP:ANG movie (therefore I rated it 8/10 instead of 9/10 stars). However, the animation and plot are great considering this is a show produced for Netflix! It is superior in terms of animation quality and voice acting compared to many of the 3D kid's shows out there.

-THE PLOT-

The ponies have to figure out how to live in a world with magic. But it is not all fun and rainbows for the ponies, because change can be hard... Even if the change is for the better.

Moreover, not everypony has good intentions...

(*coughs* BAD pony alert!)

Make Your Mark!
raben-8114622 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
3 years has passed since the My Little Pony generation 5 movie, and My Little Pony carries on with new characters, new radio friendly songs and new settings. This time the ponies are up against Opaline that will take over the World, as it all was ending with a cliffhanger in the G5 Jurassic World and it will be a long wait as the epic G5 ending seems to come out in few months. The animation is a little improvement over the G5 movie, but this looks like a 2000s Barbie cartoon at times where many from Friendship is Magic was starring. This show is meant for kids and adult collectors too, and of course this show has also gone the way in show how many is in front of their newest Tablet, newest Apple device and newest phones now aday. If you want some more G5 lore read the season 10 comics.

Hard to watch
purplemonkeybark7 June 2022
I reluctantly came to really enjoy the movie after my daughter became obsessed with it and was so excited there would be more to the story...

This is bad. The animation falls flat. The characters move unnaturally (even for animated ponies) and are bad caricatures of the movie characters. Even my daughter can't watch more than 5-10 minutes at a time... there could be some interesting plot points but they're not well handled and it's so hard to watch to even get to them.

This is pretty bad, I'd rather watch The G5 movie
Rinnyson_brob11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've been seeing a few reviews on this saying "don't look at the other posts, they are wrong"

Well, they are just little kids. And when you watch the movie more and more, you slowly start to realize that the directors didn't really put much effort through this compared to G5.

The whole thing feels rushed, the ponies all act like idiots, and why are we going through another problem with the magic? At the end of G5, everyone that was using magic had no problems at all.

Mlp G5 is a great movie, as it's not rushed, the whole quality is crisp, the characters actually knew what they are and it has great voice actors for the songs, including the entire plot.

For Make your mark, it's rushed, and there's this long digital camera for up to a minute! Not to mention that the ponies act like complete dummy's except for zipp.

Terrible start for a what seems to be demo of the show version of mlp G5. And if there is any more coming we won't be expecting them for then next 4-5 months. So I don't have my hopes up high that it'll be better.

My DAUGHTER loves it!
samoragaither29 September 2022
Not sure why the reviews are so bad. But it could be because a bunch of adults are rating a show catered to kids. My 9 year old daughter loves the show, the graphics, and especially all the color combos of the ponies. She watches it and keep pausing it to show me certain scenes. She noticed all the characters from the movie that was released and their stories. The story lines were well thought out from the scenes she had me watch, let alone there were a lot of funny scenes. Again, it's a perfect show for kids. So it's a 8/10 from my daughter. Good job Netflix for creating yet another good show for KIDS to enjoy!

Cute new twist on My Little Pony.
wildspiritedwolf29 September 2022
It's got a lot to uphold being the successor to Friendship is Magic. The animation for the series was never going to be as pretty as the movie, it's not the best but it's also not terrible.

There are a few aspects of the series which bother me, particularly the over-use of mobile phones by Pipp. (I feel like this will be a part of her character development however). A few of the songs have felt a forced/unnecessary and there have been moments where it has felt very childish.

However, it IS a kids show. The characters are cute and likable. I'm curious to see where the story goes and there have been a few moments that have given me that warm fuzzy feeling. So far, I have really enjoyed the new series. I'm excited to see what the future holds for My Little Pony.

Disgustingly bad
mikejpledge28 May 2022
Title says it all, everything about this is terrible... they've reused the high quality models from the film but the animation is shockingly bad, the story is rubbish and the characters don't even act like the originals.

My thoughts aside, my children were confused and walked away from it shortly after it started and they've watched the film around 100 times .

Like a cheap kids cartoon
lindpalo129 May 2022
It really looks cheap in every aspect. The world looks boring and empty. The dialogue is what a kid would play with their toys. The story spits out so many ideas which all just seem to try to beat eachother in "coolness". The movie is really loud at times. Like having to scream or sing out lines just to make the kids look at the screen again.

It is definitely back to its roots: My little pony is for kids.

extremely disappointed
horneautumn10 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Generation 5 had such potential to build off the show that so many loved, but instead we get a generation where all types of ponies are divided. We could have had flurry heart, little cheese, the cmc's, big mac's kids, the cake twins, ect.....instead we get all new characters with no ties to the characters we love. Everyone is divided and terrified of all other pony types, making me wonder where are the windego's. We also don't see discord who can't die , so where did he go.

All the town names have been changed, there is no castle, everfree forest, sugar cube corner, ect.....we also have no princess that rule over things, instead we get queen haven of the Pegasus and her two daughters pipp and zipp.

The main 5 of the story are trying to find the unity crystals from each type of pony to bring everyone back together. Unity crystals that we have never heard of before.

Then you have the most ridiculous stuff yet ponies using cell phones and social media. The only dragon in the show doesn't talk, but somehow they can do magic now.

We have know idea what happened to twilights school or any of the other creatures that we have met , but now we have unisnails and Pegasus rats all sorts of animals that can fly or do magic.

They changed equestrian history by changing hearthwarming eve to winter wish day. Like WTF it's like they took the whole Fandom and everything that made FIM great and just flushed it down the toilet.

I like that the five ponies' friendship is so strong it's the only thing needed to keep the power of the crystal from fading. They don't do it individually-they do it together
rannynm1 June 2022
My Little Pony: Make Your Mark is an entertaining, full-length episode that will have audiences counting the days until the release of the upcoming series. This show doesn't really require you to watch the My Little Pony movie beforehand, and that is a good thing. You'll be entertained watching this show either way.

This show focuses on the new characters that were first presented in the previous movie, My Little Pony: A New Generation. In Maritime Bay, it's now normal for Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasi to interact with each other and to be friends. But lately things have been tense between some of the ponies, and their friendship has been off. Zipp Storm (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) has noticed this tension has caused the unity crystal's power to fade. Now Zipp and her friends have to figure out a way to stop it before it gets out of hand.

In My Little Pony: Mark Your Mark I like that the five ponies' friendship is so strong it's the only thing needed to keep the power of the crystal from fading. They don't do it individually-they do it together. My favorite characters in this show are Sunny (Jenna Warren) and Izzy (Ana Sani). I like Sunny and Izzy because they both have positive attitudes no matter the situation, and they are nice, genuine ponies. I think that was one of the key factors in saving Maritime Bay. I also like Zipp because she is funny and confident. Another thing I like about this show is that it includes everyone's differences, which sends the message that even if you are different, you can still be friends and work together.

The message of My Little Pony: Mark Your Mark is that you have to do what is right and good for you and not what's good for other people. Throughout the show, this is shown through Zipp's character. She doesn't know whether she wants to go back home and become a princess, or stay in Maritime Bay with her friends. In the end, she does what is right for her. My Little Pony: Mark Your Mark is family friendly and has a really good message that everyone, no matter who they are, will take away

I give My Little Pony: Make Your Mark 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 4 to 8. You can watch this show on Netflix starting May 26, 2022. Be sure to check it out!

Just say no to bad toy commercials
FridgeNotes27 September 2022
This is so bad, G5 started out pretty good, but the main TV series is poorly executed and riddled with blaring bad management decision including what is obviously nothing more than huge promos for specific toys.

The villains for flat and uninspired, the main cast especially Hitch took a personality down grade, the writing staff between TYT and MYM are clearly not communicating very well.

The current batch of episodes have some good moments but are far and few between.

The animation is good enough, but there are some strange choices, like replacing the drink cups with weird tiny ones, and making the hooves bend to act like hands.

Thankfully my children found the series even less tolerable than I did. They stopped watching after the third episode, as for me I watched the full eight simply out of curiosity to see if they would improve.

Deserves a chance
butterycroissants29 June 2023
Really enjoyable adorable series! I absolutely love the characters and the character designs, the songs are really catchy, and the vibes are just so good. My only issues are that the pacing of the story is a little slow and has a few plot holes due to it being a continuation of FiM instead of its own thing. Despite that, I seriously recommend watching it before review bombing it with bad reviews just for being a new generation. Fans of the fourth generation of My Little Pony (FiM) are too quick to judge this new generation and should seriously give it a chance before immediately dismissing it and review bombing.

a slap in the face for all friendship is magic fans
michaolejnicka27 May 2022
I've been waiting to see this show ever since the movie came out. I was very positively surprised with the great new characters, new designs, the story and overall the brand new era for ponies. However, this show has caused nothing but disappointment and longing for more friendship is magic to be created instead. Lauren Faust has redesigned ponies in a way that no one ever thought would be possible and we cannot thank her enough for this. It would seem that any story created after this would at least try to follow into her footsteps. But no.

The story leaves much to be desired but it's really the animation that hurts the most. There is nothing natural about the movement of the characters and the whole thing lacks flow. It resembles old 2004 shrek movies rather then the modern animation. To top it all of the backgrounds? The first few scenes gave me stein teletubbies vibes with the slopes and occasional singular bush or a tree. It looks plastic and unfinished.

As a person who spent their teen years in awe of Friendship is magic and as an animator myself I am so extremely saddened by this show and the fact that anyone who has ever had the pleasure to work on Frienship is magic has to see this become their "legacy".

Awful pilot... But there's still a chance
ytdrxffq29 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't particularly thrilled with the début. The movie had me expecting more. I would have liked something less slice of life that's pretty boring. I would have appreciated the building of the bright house- this lacked in every aspect, aside from the mysterious reveal at the end. I have hopes the next chapter will be better, and maybe we'll be seeing Sunny pick up on her father's research. Was she able to save any of the artifacts he held so dear?

just remove all of the G4 elements and say is just another universe
pi-921466 June 2023
Just remove twilight sparkle and delete everything that says is a "continuation of G4 " this show obviously was meant to leave the G4 universe completely it frustrated me so much how the marketing is focus on saying "oh G4 lore " when it isn't and is quiet clearly that the people who give it a 10/10 are people who never seen G4. There was even one who said IS NOT G4 and they are RIGHT!!!!

REMOVE TWILIGH SPARKLE AND ANY OTHER PLANS OF INTRODUCING THE MANE 6 i know that is what they want to do for clickbait and if this is a farm hating for views look at velma show everyone talk about the few episodes and then it gets ignore completely REMOVE G4 FROM THE SHOW.

Give it a chance, it's getting better
Chapter 1: 7/10 Chapter 2: 8/10 Chapter 3: 8/10 Chapter 4: 9/10

That's my ranking for the show thus far.

With each chapter, it improves and I'm confident this will continue.

Most of the fandom who've watched this either like or love it. Those that don't probably can't stand the fact the show hasn't been Friendship is Magic all over again. The criticism comes from the simple approach to the storytelling, while this is valid, remember who the core audience is. Hasbro haven't. Of course, their main concern is parting parents from their pocketbooks.

The show for what it is is good. Give it a try.

If this is what G5 will be like, we're in for a disappointment...
rustemkhafizov26 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm honestly quite shocked at how drastically the quality of the writing dropped since My Little Pony: A New Generation (a movie which I really enjoyed). If this is supposed to be our first glimpse at what the upcoming first season of this generation of ponies will be, we are in for a big disappointment.

I know it's unfair to compare G5 to G4, but the main thing that made Friendship is Magic work so well was its characters. They were distinct, lovable, and entertaining. Something that I, sadly, cannot say about any of the characters in this iteration of the franchise. One of the biggest issues with this special, in my view, is that it focuses primarily on Zipp, which makes sense, in a way, as she had very little screen time in the movie, but it comes at a cost of making all of the other main ponies look foolish and indistinguishable from each other. Something you should really avoid doing in what supposed to be a pilot for the upcoming series.

Another major problem is that this special is surprisingly boring and for whatever reason the writers thought 45 minutes is enough to try to cram in three distinct sub-plots which don't really correlate with each other, and, for the most part, hinder one another. Was it really necessary to introduce the dragon egg subplot in this special? I'm not sure it's wise to remind the viewers of G4 so much when your own version of the series can barely stand on its own as it is (and when your baby dragon is hella ugly to boot -_-).

It was nice that they introduced a form of Earth Pony magic to the franchise, but it was something that the movie already hinted at, so the whole special ended up feeling like a slog to get to the twist that I already knew was coming. It would've been better if the special started with that revelation and focused on the shenanigans and issues that may arise from it.

As it stands, this special was not worth waiting eight months for and does not hold water to the film, let alone the previous generation. I wish I could say I'm hopeful that the actual series will be better when it comes out later this year, but I'm simply too old to be that naïve...

Don't listen to the other reviews...
jason-putz8812 June 2022
Honestly. This is a different show entirely, the animation is different, the characters are different, the show is different. Because it's not G4. Plain and simple. All these other reviews are complaining how it's not Frindship is Magic. Well of course it's not because it's not supposed to be. For those complaining on the animation, in my opinion it's better than the animation they used in G4, at least now the characters have more depth and characteristics than just what they had on The Hub/Discovery Family.

I will agree in saying that the story was a bit hard to follow but you get that with any pilot episode. Hasbro will take the feedback, make adjustments where they need to and move forward.

I for one can't wait till more episodes drop! Keep up the good work!

It's okay I guess?
aussinia27 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was going to gave it a negative, mixed-to-negative, decent or positive review if it is good, decent, mediocre or bad, however, this turn out pretty okay? I don't hate it or like it it is just okay, I think. It is a tiny improvement to the mediocre Make Your Mark special but it suffers the same problems as the special did.

The Negatives about this series.

It is a sequel to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Unlike G1, My Little Pony Tales (despite being mean-spirited), G3 (despite the filler, toned down, generic story and bad dialogue), G3.5 and even G4, which at least made it its own thing rather than being a sequel to the other generations, G5 isn't really its own thing. It is only using G4 to be a cash grab and it doesn't even care about the quality. Speaking of Friendship is Magic, it already has its down plot. It doesn't have to be a sequel to G4, just like the previous generations.

The Animation

The animation is terrible, in fact, it is the same animation from the mediocre Make Your Mark special, but more uncanny. The animation may be smooth but in some scene, the animation looks choppy and weird. It also reminds me of the animation from Norm of the North and it's sequel Key to the Kingdom but where both combined to one. The first film of Norm of the North may be smooth but it's sequel has the choppy animation. That's way too similar.

Characterisation (for some)

While Pipp and Zipp have good characterisation, with Zipp being the best out of all the mane 5, Sunny, Hitch and Izzy have little or poor characterisation, with Izzy being the weakest. Sunny is just a Mary Sue now, just like G3 Pinkie Pie, Hitch doesn't seem the same as he used to be in A New Generation and Izzy characterisation is way too similar to Pinkie Pie's.

The Songs (Most of them)

Portrait Day and A Special Tune sound good, but the rest are just generic pop songs, with feel really unfitting for MLP. I understand that G5 is going to be more modern but the songs don't feel the same. The theme song has good music and nice performances, but the lyrics are bad. It overuses the words sparkle, glow, light, shine over and over again and it is a downgrade to MLP music. The songs from the previous generations at least have a story but the Make Your Mark theme doesn't. There is no negative phases in it, not even the word "but" is in the song. Is it just me or just the song "Where'd go" sound like an anime song rather than a My Little Pony song. Overall, most of the songs are really generic, with the Make Your Mark theme having terrible lyrics despite the good performance and music.

The Plot (some)

This is kinda short but for some reason since I don't have that much to say about the plot. Some plots for the episodes feel like rehashes from Friendship is Magic. Example: The Cutie Mark Mix-Up is a rehash from a Friendship is Magic episode. I don't remember the name but it had Luna and Celestia switching Cutie Marks, and this episode is too similar. The story is kinda boring in my opinion.

Honourable Mentions

I still hate Sparky's design. There is no way I'm going to like it, not even one bit. Like what I said in my review on the special, it looks like a Cocomelon baby with a dragon suit. He is also more annoying than Scootaloo from the terrifying Newborn Cuties and I can't stand him anymore. I also realised that the voices don't even sound the same like they were in Tell Your Tale in my view. Izzy sounds really annoying and too similar to Pinkie Pie.

There are also some plot holes in the series, much like most of the shows. In the episode, Hoof Done It?, Zipp should have know it was Misty who stole the lantern and not Pipp. Pipp actually moved the lantern. They only did it so they can extend the plot.

Now the positives about this series.

Earth Pony Magic

Remember when I complained about Earth Pony Magic on my review on the special? I think I just got used to it. It makes sense that the Earth Ponies get magic, since they didn't get their magic in A New Generation. I don't know why didn't they get their magic while the Unicorns and Pegasi did. It is nice too see that they are struggling to get used to it, since it is pretty new.

Characterisation

While Sunny had mixed characterisation and Hitch and Izzy's characterisation aren't that great anymore, Pipp and Zipp still have good characterisation like they did in A New Generation (despite the low screentime), Tell Your Tale and the special, although Pipp characterisation in the special wasn't that great. It is nice the see more of their relationships to each other. The new character Misty is pretty decent. She pretty much reminds me of the Cutie Mark Crusaders from FIM since she wants her Cutie Mark, not only that, but she also reminds me on Minty from MLP G3, since she is sometimes clumsy. It is sad to see her struggling and I can't wait to see more of her characterisation.

Plot

Some episodes plots are mediocre but most are decent. Nothing much too say, it is just decent

One word: Sprout.

Finally, after one year, he is finally back.

Overall, I find this pretty okay I guess? It's just some generic kids show. I was going to watch 3 episodes but had to watch all of avoid spoilers. It is a slight improvement from the special and I hope it improves a bit more :) just keep improving the series and maybe I will like it for once. Looking forward for Winter Wishday! 5/10 - Aussinia.

Fails where the movie was great
simeytoad30 May 2022
The fact you they havent invested in using the same voices shows how much time they had for this series. The voice for Hitch is terrible, they have even changed his personality. My little girl and i have watched the movie many many times, sing the songs in the car, but this hasnt left any impression, execpt not to bother with anything else from this series. Redeem yourselves and get the cast back, and put some effort into this...!!!

It is bad and hope it get better but I don't think it will
rafrpt3 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The cgi is okay but it has a lot of work like it fells like they are staring at my soul and some times they move unnaturally, there are also the cgi mistakes like when the pony fell over and was helped up by the other pony by holding her hoof out to help her up but the hoof was not placed on the others hoof but next to it and the other mistake is the lanterns rainbow was vertical while the pony was moving it side to side, I don't usually ever see mistakes but this is obvious. The story is very boring the only interesting part is the secret lore, it does have some good massages but the way they put the massage with the story feels boring and not put together well. In the movie it feels like that they are smart but in the show it looks like they have become dumb like when misty trying to find the lantern and not seeing it when it is in front of her face and how she "buried" the lantern which she just put it in the ground only a bit with it sticking out a lot making it stand out like a sore thumb with the shovel next to it and she thought no one would notice. As you can see I do not like the new show, G4 was vary much like a family show even though people class it as a kids show even though the show has every aspect of a family show and why so many people of all ages liked it, G5 however feels very babyish and I feel that a lot of people that liked G4 will not like G5 I am one of them. Also I forgot to mention that the baby dragon just looks weird and is annoying and I hope the dragon will talk eventually because I don't want the dragons becoming more like animals I feel like this because he is with hitch who can talks with animals and attracts animals and that is why I feel that way and hopefully I am wrong. I will try to keep watching and I hope it gets better and that I start to like it but I don't know if I will.
