Really very good

Warning: Spoilers
The Split hasn't always been consistent over the years and if this is to be the last season that's not a huge surprise to me.

From the outset I would have liked to see more legal drama to balance the family dynamic and better characterisation of the family outside the husband and wife main characters.

BUT...this episode was really strong for me.

I'm still invested in these characters after almost 5 years and personally this episode delivered real emotional impact, not just because of the plot, but because the choices these characters make along the way feel genuinely realistic.

And I know if I'm in tears at the end it's gotta be good.

Clever twists, I just finished Season 1 & 2, Can't wait to see Season 3! Slow start, but stay through first few episodes. It keeps getting better and better. Exceptional acting & writing.

Dressed up soap
damianfallon56 April 2022
Take out Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan and you have nothing more than basic , cheesy soap . However it's dressed up as serious, sophisticated drama which would not fool a five year old . The leads are excellent but are badly let down by the rest , especially the other two sisters who seem to be either reading off cue cards or simply trying to make up the plot as they go along . The once interesting weekly cases have now been set aside for ever more ludicrous ' twists ' that can be spotted a mile away . It's a pity because this could have been a really good series but has been badly mishandled.

No punch - swimming through molasses.

Nicola Walker is one of my favourite actresses and The Split was a useful vehicle to show her range. Season 1 was average TV buoyed up by an interesting procedural element (the cases, the sale of the firm ...) with the familial components arranged in a complementary way to complete the whole. The season 3 opener is a diffuse saccharin relationship-blancmange with no spine. Not good enough even for the Hallmark channel which is now its best fit.
