Not bad!
jesse_jarvis30 April 2021
Compared to a lot of home renovation shows that waste half of the episode with goofy, disingenuous real estate segments, this show is something of a breath of fresh air. The dialogue is a little forced, but the projects are interesting in their scope and size. Be prepared to be annoyed by Carolyn, the female host, who seems to completely lack an indoor voice, and delivers all of her lines a few decibels higher than is necessary.

Starts a bit cheesy but gets great!
cookmat25 March 2022
So, the first couple of episodes are a bit overplayed, though never ad bad as many "reality" reno shows (property brothers is disturbing). It does have somewhat of a feel goof trashy reality tv bibe, but it's the mildest i've coke across. The content is interesting. There ate lots of good ideas. It's not as technival as tbisnold bluse or an instuctional, but it's somewhete in between. I don't think it's fake. Thr lady does design, and the guy seems to be doing consteuction. Of course they get other people in. They are project managers with particlar desgn and craftwork skills.

Love show, tired of advertising
kristinetravis5 July 2022
I just started watching the show recently and quickly went through season 1 and completely enjoyed it. However, I'm having a hard time getting into season 2 because of the amount of advertising for Lowe's and their products. I truly feel like someone is trying to shove the store down my throat. If I want to shop there I will choose to go on my own, I don't need the host (designer) telling me a dozen times inside 2 minutes where she buys a faucet.

A Fantastic Show
whazmyemail-8962527 August 2021
I just happened across the show on Hulu a few weeks ago. In a matter of days I burned through the episodes. I just can't get enough of the beautiful scenery during filming, the before and after of how spectacular job that these two do. Billy is a little hunk, would love to find a husband like him. Love his sister too, she reminds me so much of my sister, both good and bad, LOL.

Can't wait for more episodes and seasons. Love love love.

My Fave Renovation Show EVER! I Love the Camaraderie Between the Brother & Sister Team
kathydannelvitcak-8585522 August 2023
Our home is a 120 year-old farmhouse in far northern Minnesota, so I was delighted to discover this show. The easy going vibe and natural give and take between Carolyn and Billy is so pleasant. They compliment and support each other. On each renovation, they take the time to give positive feedback and encouragement. There is gentle banter and teasing, but nothing mean-spirited or snarky. Their enthusiasm and passion for their work warms my heart! Plus, their Dad taught them their craft and pops in occasionally to help.

I'm one of those people who is REALLY animated when I talk and that ramps up 10x when I'll excited. Carolyn's enthusiasm is genuine and bubbles out when she going and uses her hands for an extra exclamation point! I was confounded by how many people were annoyed by her use of her hands. Having seen a fair number of farmhouses from growing up in Mississippi, then Dallas and the last 25ish years in far northern Minnesota and many of them use a lot of green and blue. Greens and blues naturally work well with living in a more natural environment. She does a great job of opening up the homeowners floor plans while keeping the farmhouse vibe. I'm delighted I stumbled across this little Canadian nugget of a show!

Is it an improvement?

Warning: Spoilers
Watching one episode and the designer listening to a scratched record - hurts my ears.

The design was disappointing and inefficient. I'm wondering why would you would just eliminate the office and laundry that were there originally and did not seem to include these back in? Are laundries no longer relevant? Good design should be able to incorporate all these elements but make the functionality and layout work better and not just eliminate them to make supposedly bigger spaces. Even the new design of kitchen and dinning is impractical. Just seems like an ad for lowes. I don't think it's worth watching and certainly couldn't listen to it.

Some good ideas
catschasemice959424 July 2022
There are some good remodel ideas on the show. However, because there is only one designer on the show by episode six all the redos look alike. I'm not sure where the construction takes place. The quoted price for the project is around $150,000. That seems considerably lower than it would be in many parts of the country. I have to admit after the first five episodes I watched the intro and fast forwarded to the final results.

*screaming*

To quote my wife "I'm literally screaming". If you like basic boring homes that look like they came straight from a wayfarer catelogue this show is for you. No original ideas and design is executed poorly. I don't understand what "interior design" elements the women comes up with as the brother is the one with the slightly more better ideas. She is a terrible interior designer with poor communication skills between her, the clients, and the brother. The only colors this woman knows how to use are white, blue, and gray. Once again another show sacrificing unique and authentic characteristics of a home for boring basic-Ness.

Very disappointed
greenmarie-6554027 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I am severely disappointed in them that in the second episode they erased a part of history they found during renovations in the kitchen. That signed piece of plaster from the original owners is now destroyed and lost because they only cared about making it more modernized but didnt even take a second to think about saving the history of the house and that family they could of saved that plaster piece and framed it and hung it on the wall for the decor and history to fix an old farm house and give it a face lift you have to start with respecting the history of that house and be willing to bring the old into the new and preserve the history at the same time.

Red, white & blue every episode.
mecraigslist19 July 2021
Carolyn has the worst taste in designs. The whole act of pretending to do the work consists of holding a tool or cutting a piece of wood. The fake banter doesn't help. Like a over the top version of Fixer Upper. But better than Good Bones for sure!

Season 2 is worse than ever!
kbeck-4179329 June 2022
And I thought last season was bad...

Billy almost always has great ideas then here comes bulldozer Carolyn with her penny tile, floral wallpaper and tons of different patterns thrown into the same room in pretty much every room on EVERY episode! I don't think she knows that less is more and it is important to match! Also, an accent wall works so much better then throwing wallpaper and paint on everything in the room!

I am a huge fan of Lowe's, like most of you, and we know they offer so many beautiful wallpaper, paint colors and decor. This show is not making me want to go shop at Lowe's with her hideous decisions! She also has this unattractive obsession about having to be "riiiight" about everything. Not a great communicator and demands Billy listen to her.

BILLY please get your own show. You are great at what you do and not annoying.

Oh and Carolyn, those fat pants you wear that wrap over making the zipper and button crooked ARE NOT CUTE!

Design a flaw
tiffanygrace8722 August 2021
The contractor I liked a lot. However the lady designer just seemed like she loved wasting money on bad design. Season 1 episode 1 had me cringing so hard I couldn't even fathom trying a second episode. There are a ton of home renovation shows and I guess I will stick with the other 500 that are offered.

The wood with the brick? Extra cost in laying that tile and it looked horrible... but NOT a as bad as that ceiling. The blue ceiling?? Really?? Yuck. The brick floor would have been gorgeous with a wooden ceiling.... But similar to this situation her vision is just so off.

I guess that is just one persons opinion... however I also didn't like Doug or Hildi on Trading Spaces from back in the day because they were just plain bad. Now this lady isn't THAT bad, but I would never pay for her to design any of my homes.

She seems to come with an open mind though because when the guy said he disagreed with the dark stain and showed her how a clear coat would work she realized she was wrong. I just wish he would have spoke up more with the rest of her mistakes.

Good Show, Hate Carolyn
Alan_And_Sunny2 February 2023
Billy is a wonderful man, the concept of the show really works. What doesn't work, is Carolyn. Every design she has, has no personality. She strips every house she touches of the characteristics that make it unique. She takes cozy family homes and turns them into the target furniture section at every store. She always takes historical pieces and modernizes them and makes them ugly. Someone get that woman some interior design classes because lord she needs it. Billy's cool tho. Love how he tries to incorporate the families history into most of his designs. I'm never shopping at Lowes again, Home Depot all the way.

Please STOP
nancydowner8 June 2022
Please tell Carolyn to stop talking with her hands. I don't think she'd be able to speak if her hands were tied behind her back.

Her voice is sooo annoying. Everything she does is perfect, in her opinion. Sh say "right" all the time. Very annoying.

Destroying items
lupiekindel25 May 2022
Its really hard to watch them destroy! The old items in the home instead of trying to salvage for others who are less fortunate. The fact they take JOY in destroying perfectly good items is a shame and i can not watch . !!!!

Rename it "Blue or Green Farmhouse Remodel"
kevinmpadden4 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show should be renamed "Blue or Green Farmhouse Remodel" - EVERY episode has then SAME PREDICTABLE ELEMENTS - BLUE wall covering, QUARTZ countertops, SHIPLAP interior siding, and LOUD GAWDY FLOOR TILES.

Carolyn has no business calling herself a "Designer" because she ISN'T. She's a "Repetitive Decorator" - she does the SAME OLD STUF on EVERY EPISODE !

We watch in utter amazement as EVERY "renovation" turns out looking like that last one they did ! No originality in material usage.

The biggest shame is that ALL of these projects will be "severely dated" in 5 years or less...... which is a sad thing for the families that own these farmhouses.....
