Profiling the french way
terencecarson25 July 2015
This show centers on the character of criminologist Chloé Saint-Laurent, a young woman whose expertise and unorthodox methods help to solve police cases in Paris. While for the rest we have a standard french police series with the usual amount of crimes and personal life of the police unit members, what makes it unique it's her: goofy, bold, reasoning, she gets the job done her way. I don't think you can remain indifferent to the character: either you like her or not (personally I adore). She earned a place in the long list of eccentric people started, I believe, by Dr. House. The role is played by Odile Vuillemin. Update: season 7 sees the departure of Chloé, substituted by a new profiler, Adèle Delettre, a recurring character in the show. Her approach is very different from Saint-Laurent's and the series takes a more dramatic tone. A bit of sense of humour is missing so I'd give 7/10 to this new "profilage".

nice combination of procedural and personal
ndasny16 December 2021
I'm a fan of procedural so initially I wasn't into the substantial focus on the team's personal dramas. The lead Chloe was unbelievable, annoying and distracting but they play down her flakeyness and she's more mature by season 3. All the actors, including the actor playing Chloe, do an excellent job. The setting is lovely. It's engaging without being gripping (which is good if you're not looking for gripping). The setting is beautiful urban france.

Want more seasons of this show!'
keeturn-968732 January 2021
We absolutely adore this show and would love to have more seasons of it!! We find Chloe's quirkiness appealing and enjoy the rest of the cast. Having lived near the little building that is being used as a police station in the series, it's nice seeing the Paris we knew before the fire in Notre Dame. We're savoring each episode of the 2nd series, hoping more will be available.

We love this series. Great cast, characters, location, story, style. The Chloe character charms kind of like Poirot and Monk.

Want more
deborahadahl11 April 2021
We love this show. Got through the end of Season 2 and need to know what happens next. Why are all the seasons not available? Or how about letting us BUY the DVDs. It is terrible to hook people on a show and then not show what happens next. Love the show, do not love IMDb and your messing with us. What is the point of purchasing Amazon Prime, PBS Masterpiece, BritBox, MHZ and IMDb and not able to see all the shows are getting stuck with commercials? Come on guys, help us out here! But you are asking for a rating for 2009-2020 ---- when we are only able to see 2009-2010. The show deserves a 10, but not being able to see all the seasons lowers its benefits and worth!

Standout and refreshing actor..

Odile ( hole)is absolutely a brilliant actor. Mannerisms, facial expressions she turns the show into a new and refreshing version of a crime profiler. Odile can probably a t in any movie, thinking a James Bond movie.

"Paris Murders"
yogagalCO3 January 2022
They called us series " The Paris murders" on PBS masterpiece and also miss label series 4 episode one as season one episode one. If you choose to watch as a paid subscriber of TBS masterpiece you will be shown the first episode of the fourth season with no background of Seasons 12 and three to help you understand the main character. I find this to be extremely annoying and will probably not watch past this first episode. There are better options out there amongst the many excellent French crime shows. On the slightly lighter side you also have Candice Renoir which is available on the acorn channel.

The best long series to watch
JustTheBestHere25 November 2023
This series is an extremely well-done combination of career and personal life for each and every character. The stories are just too good for a long series like this, and it just keeps getting better with each episode you watch. I also learned a lot from this series, while being emotional and pleased, all at the same time. All the drama, action, and cool vibe the team has, makes this series awesome. The main characters had some changes during the entire series but in a very smooth way. The fact that it's a French production gives another extra cool vibe to everything because it's just so different from any other Netflix series.

I can't get enough of it, I watched every season like 4 times in a year. This series made my life better because IT IS JUST LIKE YOU ARE LIVING AMONG THAT STORY. I totally recommend this series for everyone who is special in their own way and wants to find out how other special people deal with their lives and problems. IT'S MY ONLY 10/10 SO FAR!

Very disappointing show
biggbill-652104 November 2020
Unfortunately for me this is the first Walter Presents show that didn't appeal to me. While I like most of the team, Chloe is simply annoying and totally unbelievable as a profiler....maybe she would work better as a teenage amateur. I couldn't make it through the 2nd episode because of her character and how it was written. If you're looking for a fluffy crime show have at it.

Love this series and the character develop .... Hope it doesn't get to ridiculous dealing with Chloe's mental health issues and stays the course of unique cases and creative problem solving.

We'll Spiral it Ain't!
sterhill-117 October 2020
Interesting enough to keep watching. Most of the characters are well done except for the profiler/psychologist and she simpers a bit too much. ALL of her dresses are made from the same pattern in different fabrics/colors and she even has the same coat in two different colors. I find that very peculiar, plus she drags a giant yellow handbag everywhere, even all the crime scenes. Everyone relies on her judgment, regardless of how dumb and unfounded her ideas are. I may keep on or not. If you are looking for a kiss ass French crime show, look up Spiral. Awesome!!

Ce n'est pas "The Paris Murders"
jilllewis-0498415 October 2023
It bothers me that the title "Profilage" is translated as "The Paris Murders" instead of "Profiling". A better title would give a hint as to what the show is about. (I understand the title "Profiler" is taken on US TV). To me, The Paris Murders makes it sound lightweight and it is certainly not "a thriller" as described.

I have only watched the first 3 episodes of Season 1. I understand that the character is intended to be quirky, but I don't understand the decision to make her a childlike character.

I support body positivity, yet her body is intentionally sticklike/childlike. She insists on wearing moderate height heels, yet she wobbles in them and walks pigeon toed, like a child would. She only wears 60's style dresses (which I happen to like) to work but they fit closely, emphasizing her childlike body. This "uniform" is supposed to add to her quirkiness. Her huge purse, which is the only one she ever carries, is not childlike. It is also quirky but emphasizes a feminine stereotype.

These types of quirkiness are hard to get past and make it hard to take her ability to do her job seriously, even after she comes up with her "insightful" explanations.

Her profiling technique seems primarily to be staring at people intently, with a strange look on her face. Later, she presents a full, detailed explanation of the crime ala Agatha Christie.

Assuming she is limited by the script, the acting by all characters seems good. Their character development, backstories, hints at past and possible relationships kept me interested too. They are more interesting than the plots.

A previous review put it well regarding Chloe "You either hate her or you love her"

I will not watch any more episodes.

Not the average cop show - in a fabulous way
davebartell25 July 2021
Yes Chloe is flawed, as we all are. Her colorful wardrobe & personality add spice to a show about murder. Her character brings another perspective, a more emotive point of view. The other roles are also well cast and played.

Profilage does not translate to "The Paris Murders"
lilamcgrew13 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First - Why change the name? Translate it if you really think it's necessary, but change it? What was the point of that?

Sadly, the first seasons weren't made available, but from where it started off I enjoyed it. Chloe was a quirky, fun character - with some issues that turn tragic - but still entertaining to watch. The story arc surrounding Adele, on the other hand, has become quite stale. The latest season available in the U. S. (2022) has ended with yet another improbable twist that extends her peril for another excruciating season. I was really hoping/expecting this season would see the last of 'Argos'. And we did, but apparently not his protege - Surprise! I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.

I like crime drama/procedurals, but I am exhausted from all the shows where the main character is the eternal focus of some demented sociopath and the highly improbable ways the writers contort the story to keep it going. Enough already.

And finally - why must my review be a minimum of 600 characters? Good writers can say more with less.

Not the same without Chloe
njhzjbf12 February 2023
I loved season 1-3! When Chloe left the show, it became like any other crime show, predictable!

Chloe gave a flair and a certain charm to the character she played. Chloe made the show more entertaining with her quirky personality! So what she wore heels, they were at least the kind that were easy to wear. She was a criminologist, not a regular cop or detective so she could wear what she liked. I'm giving 8 out of 10 Stars because of her and would Give 10 if she was still on. Bring her back!! Adele Is okay. But she Is no Chloe, everyone else On the show plays their roles great too... Jess is to ditzy, but I like Her.

A Bridge Too Far
mcguire-6044822 November 2022
The transition from the flighty Chloe to the more dramatic Adele was done more-or-less seamlessly and with one exception discussed later, Juliette Roudet was extremely skillful in portraying the range of emotions tied to her character.

The supporting cast held their own, even with occasional thin material. Phillipe Bas was an extremely credible detective, and Raphael Ferret had an understated comic talent.

When the series at least partially stayed on the cerebral side, it was worthwhile viewing. Then the writers fell into a common trap--inventing the mysterious and elusive arch villain--the French Hannibal Lector. They managed to walk the fine line between credibility and comic book portrayals until the last episode, when it all fell apart. The attempt to fashion another series of episodes was clumsy and eroded the story arc it was trying to preserve.

As shown via PBS Masterpiece, this series is labeled The Paris Murders.

Mostly good story and presentation, some of the characters' acting is a little cheesy.

Too clichéd
greanjellibean24 October 2020
A profiler (Chloé) who arrives late to crime scenes in runway getups, nylons, heels and dressy handbags, who winds up in rabbit holes with suspects without a gun, without any backup, without a walkie or a working phone?! What kind of police work is this? How would she ever run after a suspect in her stilettos, her handbag slung around her elbow?!! The character isn't written to appear more than a crime scene ornament with profiling abilities. Criminal Minds (and JJ) this is not, but, this show could have benefited from some of CM's type of rigorous and solid writing, because this show really strains the viewer's smarts, esp. fans of procedurals. The way Chloé's portrayed, she could do her job from a desk, but out in the field, it's absolutely the most unrealistic, not to say ridiculous, characterization.

Why can't we see the seasons in order?
fngphotography5 January 2022
This review is about the stupidity to start a series by season 4, with season 1 to 3 not to be seen anywhere. More over, there are a total of 10 seasons, with only 3 available to watch in the us. It makes the entire thing unwatchable and incomprehensible...

Unbearable "profiler"
sarahcapo26 August 2018
Despite witty and twisted plots, the main character Chloe is exasperatingly annoying. Her childish spasms and general persona are excruciating. Shame..the rest of the cast are grand.

Promising but fades into Foolishness
tigimbel24 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This could be a great show. But sadly it's not. Good scenes in Paris and it's surrounds, nice characters, and, on occasion decent plots.

The first season or so wasn't bad. A few implausible plots and silly unrealistic situations, but generally fun to watch and worth the time.

Then things get crazy, and bit in a good way. Stupid character developments that are not even close to realistic for a drama. Utterly impossible plots that almost make it seam like the show is a comedy or a supernatural spoof.

We decided to abandon the show for good after the season finale with the totally impossible prison riot scene, Chloe becoming a raving schizophrenic who stabs her boss, Hypolite tries to find and save Fred and none of the dozens of cops on the scene even notice. Sad state of affairs. Too bad.
