This first episode was watched by 5.1 million viewers, ranking at 81st place in the charts.
The series premiere got a negative write-up in the Reading Evening Post, with their TV listings stating: "Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse he's back, and it looks as though it's going to be exactly the same format that bored the nation out of their minds every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening."
As noted with many write-ups of his previous chat show, Wogan (1982), Terry often received the harshest criticism from newspapers based in his home country. The Irish Independent (2nd October 1992) listed this edition with "The blandest Irishman on the planet returns in a new weekly slot."
The Daily Mirror had a lukewarm review of the show the following day (3rd October 1992) claiming:
"Terry was careful not to make a big noise when he tiptoed into this late-night slot. He still can't tell a joke to save his life, but he's an entertaining sort who keeps the conversation flowing with his whimsy".
