- A special witness is brought to WITSEC - a woman from Latin America named Francesca Leandra, who barely escaped assassination in her home country because of her political activities. The State Department asks that WITSEC assign Mary to her full time, and Mary initially likes staying in the palatial home the government has found for her. But Francesca rebels against the opulent surroundings, and insists upon relocation to the most crime-ridden part of Albuquerque. This leads to a series of confrontations with the gang members in that part of town - and eventually, to Mary getting shot while trying to protect Francesca.—aldanoli

A Latina woman leads a Norma Rae moment, urging factory workers to stop work. Then two officials walk in and break up the protest. She's offended they sent so few. But instead of taking her away, they handcuff her and one holds a gun to her head.
Then American Special Forces operators arrive to stop the obviously corrupt law enforcement.
A Mr. Day from the Central Intelligence Agency introduces himself to Francesca. She's ready to go back to organizing, but Day tells her El Presidente sent the killers himself. He tells her the only way she's going to get what she wants is with regime change, which is why the U.S. is interested. They need to keep her safe.
Francesca Garcia enters the program as Francesca Leandra.
Peter shouts on the phone to someone in the Shannon kitchen, irritated that his GM can't line-up a Spanish speaking actor for a commercial. Jinx suggests Raphael, but as Mary acts disgusted by the offer, Raph turns Peter down.
In the office, Marshall wants to know what's going on in the conference room, but gets nothing from Eleanor.
Then Mary walks in, not exactly sunshine and roses, griping about her house being over-run with relatives.
Now Mary is curious about what's going on in the conference room with an angry Francesca. She asks Eleanor if she reads lips.
Instead, goes one better Eleanor and pushes an intercom button on her desk and they hear Francesca ranting about missing her country's revolution. She accuses them of setting up a puppet regime in her unnamed Latin American country. Day tells her they're quietly spreading rumors that El Presidente is holding her prisoner, maybe torturing her, in the hope that the people will rise up against him. He's thinking it might take three months.
"Does your inspector know about her new assignment?" he asks Stan. Mary's Spidey sense tingles at the pronoun.
Francesca spies Mary, Eleanor and Marshall outside the room. She likes the looks of her would-be protector, saying she holds all the power in the room. Then she walks out and shakes Eleanor's hand.
Day leads Mary and Francesca on a tour of a giant mansion with chef's quarters and thousands of movies-on-demand. Mary notes to Day that Francesca is used to getting what she wants. Day tells Mary that the same arrangment is supposed to continue. Mary will be on call, 24-hours-a-day as Francesca's constant companion.
Day leaves and then Mary hears Francesca talking to someone outside. She goes out and finds her saying something to a neighbor over a wall. Mary asks what it was all about. The neighbor asked Francesca if she worked there every day, or if she was available to clean her place some days. Francesca told her she'd be there at 9:30 the next day.
Inside, Francesca talks to Day on the phone, telling him to get a handle on things in her country or she's leaving.
Mary reads through Francesca's file. Shes been arrested 37 times. Francesca mixes them up some sangria, forcing a glass on Mary.
Later outside, Francesca successfully gets Mary to smoke a Havana cigar poolside. They're getting on famously. Mary asks how one becomes the leader of a cause. Francesca tells her about watching a coworker get fired after getting hurt on the job and then getting fired herself when she said it wasn't fair. A boycott followed and she became a revolutionary.
Mary says it's time for her to get going, but Francesca is disappointed Mary won't drink or get in the Jacuzzi. She tells Mary she'll see her drunk before she leaves.
Mary wakes up at home and hears Raph's voice coming from the other room on the TV. She walks into the living room to see Brandi watching him in Peter's car commercial, surrounded by buxom young ladies.
She finds the real Raph coming out of the shower. She tells him she can't believe he whored himself out like that. He says with the $3,000 Peter gave him for it he can help with the mortgage. But she's not interested.
"You're embarrassing yourself on TV and you don't even know it," she tells him.
He clarifies that he's not embarrassed, but she apparently is. He says he doesn't get to pick her job, which he hates, so she doesn't get to dictate to him.
She's struggling to rebut when Marshall calls, telling her that Francesca relocated herself last night.
Cut to a barrio with Mexican gangsta rap playing.
Mary and Marshall arrive and aren't pleased. Francesca thinks she's with her people. But Marshall says it's too dangerous. Mary whines about the other place being much nicer.
A Hispanic homeboy saunters over, grabbing his crotch and making overtures. Rather than repelling him, Francesca invites him over later for a housewarming.
After Mario leaves, Francesca accuses M & M of not liking him because of his skin color. Mary points out she's engaged to someone with brown skin, the problem is the people in the neighborhood are all criminals.
But Francesca says they're only criminals because of job losses that target poor people.
M & M watch a hoodie drive up and conduct some street business. Mary calls in a 911 tip, acting like a concerned citizen.
Marshall takes his leave, saying he has "sort of a date thing."
Mary suggests to Francesca that they go out to dinner when she's done moving. The thugs across the street eye Mary suspiciously. She gives them a hard eyeball back. (Uh oh!)
Mary and Francesca hang out at a Mexican restaurant, where Francesca lines up bottles and shots. They discuss men. Francesca wants to meet Raphael, but Mary says no way.
Francesca wants Mary to get up and dance but Mary spies Raph's commercial on TV. Reluctantly she points him out to Francesca, who is not embarrassed for him, but impressed.
They come home late to thumping rap in the street. Mary calls Dershowitz to see if anyone can follow up on her complaint. Francesca sits down for a smoke as Dershowitz tells Mary he'll see what he can do.
As Mary messes with the TV later, there's a knock on the door. Mary takes out her gun and goes to inspect. A drunk Mario presses his face through the bars and says he wants in. Francesca tells her just to ignore them, but Mary sees he's not going away. She shouts at Francesca to get in the bathroom and steps outside to deal with him.
She gives him a hard shove off the porch for all of his gathered homies to see.
Dershowitz is there, but severely outnumbered. He pulls his gun to get them to walk away. The homey inches back and slowly reaches for the back of his waistband. Mary shouts "gun!" drawing for hers. There are two shots.
One of them knocks Mary down. She's shot in the stomach -- center mass, and serious.
She falls to the ground, unconscious.
Dershowitz runs to her and calls it in.
Next we see Mary strapped to a stretcher and being wheeled down a hallway with a panicked Marshall running beside her.
She is rushed into surgery and Marshall breaks down crying as Stan runs down the hallway. He tells Stan that Mary wasn't breathing.
Later in the waiting room, Marshall tells Stan that Mary never should have been put in that neighborhood. Stan, who partially OK'd it, agrees, saying you just assume Mary's always going to be fine.
Brandi, Jinx and Raph come in and Stan gives them an update, including that they haven't caught the guy yet.
Marshall tells Stan to look for a punk named Mario.
Stan tells the clerk they need a private waiting area. Day comes in with Francesca and a few other men. Day goes to talk to Stan. Francesca asks Marshall for information, but he ignores her and walks away.
Day chews out Mary, via Stan, saying she screwed the pooch and when he's through with her.... Stan jumps on him, pushing him into a darkened room, telling him it's his fault for letting Francesca move into the worst neighborhood in Albuquerque and he's already filed a complaint. He shoves Day, getting in his face in a huge way before finally storming off as Day wisely keeps his mouth closed.
Francesca sits down with Raphael, saying that she was with Mary and Mary told her all about him. He guesses that Mary was protecting her, but when Jinx asks if Francesca knows Mary, Raphael covers, saying they work together.
The doctor comes out and tells them Mary lost a lot of blood and was in cardiac arrest when they brought her in. He says they have to get her stabilized before they can do surgery. She's on a ventilator for now. They can't tell if there's any permanent damage. He says they've got a long way to go.
Out in the hall, Marshall asks the doctor for the bullet, but he says the slug went through-and-through her torso. Marshall calls Stan, who says that ABQPD confirmed that Mary fired one shot.
Marshall wants to go after the guy, but Stan tells him he's got everyone on it. Marshall hangs up on him, looking like he wants blood.
Back in the waiting room, Marshall checks on Raphael. He wants to know what happened, but Marshall says truthfully that he doesn't know. Raph tells Marshall he can't help wanting whoever did this to suffer.
At the station, Dershowitz tells a fellow cop that he can ID the shooter. He tells Stan that the guy definitely fired first.
Stan calls Marshall, telling him that Francesca hasn't given her statement yet. Marshall goes to find her. She says she didn't see who shot Mary and that Mario didn't have a gun. Marshall doesn't believe her and thinks she's protecting him. She says she's protecting Mary, because she over-reacted by calling the police -- it's her fault.
Marshall looks at her in angry disbelief.
Marshall finds Stan at the police station and tells him and Dershowitz what Francesca said. Nobody's buying it. Stan says they found a trail of blood from the scene, that Mary hit the guy.
They've got the head gang-banger in the interrogation room. Marshall struggles to remain calm, then very levelly and professionally begins his interrogation by asking him what he dreams about, leading up to saying everyone there knows he's too smart to shoot a cop and this sort of thing is going to be bad for business. Marshall wonders if he dreams of being someone else somewhere, he knows people who can make that happen.
The guy says he can't change who he is and he's not telling Marshall anything.
Marshall flashes back to Mary being rolled in on the the stretcher, feeling defeated.
Back at the hospital, there's no news.
Marshall finds Day and Francesca about to leave. He confronts her, accusing her of trying to martyr herself and worrying about her carefully crafted public relations campaign if it got out she was hiding in an American mansion.
Stan comes in, saying they found Mario but he wasn't the shooter. They found the shell casing in a tree in the front yard. Francesca couldn't have seen it where she was standing. She tells them they're all very lucky to have Mary in their lives.
We see Mary, tubes coming out of her, unconscious. Fade out on the steady beat of the machines.
It's going to be a long time 'til the resolution of this cliff-hanger.
