I must say, this season had me going back and forth about who the serial killer was. I am glad I ended up smiling at the end.

Season Three Review
southdavid14 September 2021
The first season of "Black Monday" was a bit uneven, but was a decent enough story, built around the stock market crash. Though the second season initially felt a bit unnecessary, it did get the actors on the same page regarding how broad the show was trying to be, and after a few episodes eventually the story of that season came together. The third season is that again, but the returns are certainly diminishing.

With Dawn (Regina Hall) incarcerated for her part in the Black Monday crash, Mo (Don Cheadle) has established himself a jazz record label. He continues to try and find a way to expedite her release though, even leveraging the label to cut a deal. Blair (Andrew Rannells) is a republican congressman but finds that his influence on the hill is limited. Meanwhile Keith (Paul Scheer) is discovering that life as a replacement Lehman brother is not all that he hoped.

Similar to the second season, shorn of the shows initial premise, it's left with a bunch of characters continually finding excuses to remain in each other's gravitation. I do feel like this only works, if you enjoy the characters and like spending time with them. The problem is that I'm not sure that's the case here, they're all pretty self-centred and constantly stabbing each other in the back. There's not, for me, even one character to really relate too.

Whilst the show is occasionally funny, it wasn't consistent enough to keep me from considering giving up a few times in the early episodes. To the shows credit, eventually the murder mystery storyline did enough to keep me watching.

At the moment, the status of the show going forward is up in the air and to be honest, I'd be happy if that was enough. I like all of the performers in this, and will follow them to other shows, but I do feel like we've seen enough from these particular characters.
