Season Two opens up with The Matumbilas tussling around to head to the airport. Hashim's father, Mzee Matumbila, visits from Tanzania to spend time with his family. As this is Mzee Matumbila's first time being in America, he's only visiting for two weeks, which feels like two years with the amount luggage he brought. Mzee Matumbila subtly hints about his financial situation, however the Matumbila family doesn't catch it except for the youngest child of the family, Zulfiqar. After Mzee Matumbila makes his last remark about his situation, the news shocks Hashim, turns his world into a frenzy.

After Hashim hears about his father's financial problems, he tries to come up with positive solutions. However Hashim's son, Zulfiqar, starts to develop his own plans after speaking to his grandfather. Because of Zulfiqar's innocence, he goes beyond extreme measures based off a piece of wisdom his grandfather, Mzee Matumbila gave him. Which was, "Everything in this world is temporary. People buy things they only give once. Just give it away!"

While The Matumbilas were walking around Downtown Hopeland, they got distracted by a random protest. This protest is led by a locally known community organizer, who also chases clout named "Devonté". Amina is infatuated by his moving speech for the town's historical basket. Amina's father, Hashim, feels uneasy about the whole situation. Meanwhile Amina's mother, Zainat, looks at this as a perfect opportunity to help her daughter transition to traditional womanhood.

Amina went out on her first date with a guy who shares the passion for community organizing. This prompts her mother, Zainat, to introduce Amina to Mama Harusi, a trainer for young women. Mama Harusi struggles to get Amina to understand her approach, so tables start to shift drastically. Mama Harusi's training causes Amina to go sporadic, which makes Zainat feel disoriented.

Rajab gets confronted by his father Hashim for always being on his phone, and not being active. From there, Rajab comes across a social media ad from a local artist who's promoting Hopeland's first annual talent show. As Rajab gains interests in participating, he gets confronted by different obstacles pertained by his specific community. Particularly, a guy named Terry Tyler Thomas, who named Rajab his "nemesis".
