Chris Lamartina, the director behind the destined to be cult classic that is President's Day (due out on DVD in early spring of 2011 complete with audio commentary), has just unleashed the trailer to what appears to be another cult classic in the making - Witch's Brew. Shawn C. Phillips, also from President's Day and Sasquatch Attack (aka Attack of the Sasquatch), co-stars. This was Maryland based filmmaker Chris Lamartina's highest budgeted film to date at around $13,000 (it's hard to believe, but President's Day was made for around $5000) and it also promises to have a body count that exceeds all of his films (Book of Lore, Grave Mistakes, Dead Teenagers, President's Day, Faces of Schlock [segment director]) combined.
Witch's Brew deals with two micro-brewers who screw over the town witch. She curses their latest batch of beer. From that point on, everyone who drinks it suffers a gruesome ironic death.

It's a big week for "versus" films as we have Avh: Alien vs. Hunter, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (on Blu-ray solo and also in a two-pack with 30,000 Leagues Under the Sea), and The Navy vs. the Night Monsters. In addition a couple of other dual releases bow on May 18th: Book of Lore/Grave Mistakes and Invasion of Carol Enders/Come Die With Me.
Other promising possibilities include Freakshow, described as "a gory nod to Tod Browning's 1932 horror cult classic Freaks", Hard Ride to Hell (who doesn't love biking devil worshipers?), Haunting of Winchester House (which bills itself as a terrifying true story), Mutant Vampire Zombies From the Hood (the title alone has me sold!), Southern Gothic starring genre fave William Forsythe (it promises to combine arthouse and grindhouse for a ferocious new spin on vampire horror), and Tokyo Gore Police Version 1.5, which includes a bonus disc of follow-up short films.

America's 16th president Abraham Lincoln goes on the rampage in the independent horror film President's Day.
The film, which had an exclusive screening in Morgantown, West Virginia, last Friday, is described as "a gruesome horror-comedy that's inspired by a healthy mix of presidential politics and campy 80s slasher films, where a high school election turns deadly after a homicidal maniac dressed as Abraham Lincoln starts murdering the candidates."
The filmmakers say the result is an amalgam of Election and Sleepaway Camp Part 2. There is also social satire as all the characters have names that echo those of the last Us presidential election.
Featuring performances by George Stover (John Water's Desperate Living and Polyester), Ruby Larocca (Flesh for the Beast, Lord of the G-Strings), and Shawn C. Phillips (star of YouTube's The Don and Murph Show), President's Day made its debut at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore in February.
