I finished it, but his acting made it very difficult. This movie is a good example of why desperation for anything is not good. The set up for movies like this are always hard to accept because why would anyone be so trusting so fast? You should never be so hard up for money that critical thinking goes out of the door when it comes to strangers or people you know. Maybe that's something this movie could have changed. The couple could have wanted a renter so the guesthouse wasn't vacant AND have an added benefit of a contribution to the mortgage. Not they (really she) bought a house they couldn't afford and had no choice but to seek other income. How is that enjoyable or responsible?
This movie had potential, but was ultimately terrible. So the boyfriend gets arrested for attacking the psycho tenant, but the tenant doesn't get arrested for using a gun that wasn't his to shoot someone?! WHAT??? Then he's allowed just not show up at the police station to provide a statement and answer questions? Some things are too ridiculous and it's because Lifetime chooses this path. The concept of a nightmare tenant that's hard to get rid of is a decent set up for a movie because the tension is baked in. It's as if because Lifetime just churns these movies out that they only give the bare minimum to the actual production. These movies don't HAVE to be as bad as they are. Movies like My Husband's Killer Girlfriend, The Perfect Wedding, and House on Fire are a few of this year's examples where they clearly put in some effort.
The villain Josh was a terrible actor and it was as if he was reading his lines. He looked a mashup of John Cena and Jon Bernthal. I'll give him that his character seemed 'roided up' and unstable, but the portrayal still needed to be taken down a couple of notches. I think the movie tried to do a twist, but it was really obvious from the start. Lifetime movies of late (2017-present) rarely deploy true twists.
Brittany Underwood is usually reliable whether she's the protag or the villain, but her character was way too trusting and gullible here.
The climax scene was nothing spectacular. It was what it was. Watch it once and decide.
