Just watch Lords of Chaos

This falls short on every level, it's decently made but the locations ruin any aesthetic sense they were going for. The metal band members lean toward dopey and everything is overdone to the point that you catch yourself giggling in the most serious moments. If you make it to the ending, it jumps to "TrueBlood" and "Buffy..." camp pretty fast. The only thing I enjoyed was the grandmother they stole from Hunger games.

Slow paced and monotonous narrative...
paul_haakonsen29 November 2022
Stumbling upon the 2021 Argentinean horror movie "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" (aka "Welcome to Hell") here late in 2022, of course I opted to sit down and watch it without ever having heard about it. I do believe in giving a movie a fair chance, even if never having heard about it. And with "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" being a horror movie, of course I had to watch it given my fascination with horror.

Right, well first of all with calling this a horror movie might be stretching the term. This was more of a drama thriller laced with some light elements of supernatural horror. I sat down to watch "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" with the expectations of it being a horror movie, especially with that title, so I was somewhat disappointed with the outcome of the movie.

And with that being said, don't get me wrong because "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" wasn't exactly a bad movie, it was just something very different from what I had expected. Writers Camilo De Cabo, Nicanor Loreti and Jimena Monteoliva delivered a rather monotonous script here. Nothing much of anything overly exciting happened throughout the 90 minutes that the movie ran for, most of the movie was essentially just watching Lucia (played by Constanza Cardillo) sitting around and waiting.

The acting performances in the movie were good. Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble here, as I have only seen a couple of Argentinean movies. But I will say that it was a good cast ensemble where the actors and actresses carried the movie well enough with their performances.

For a horror movie then "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" fell rather short. If you enjoy slow paced thrillers then you might get a kick out of director Jimena Monteoliva's movie.

My rating of "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Horror done right!

This is an excellent horror film. The villains are very believable. The acting is great. It provokes a sense of dread and fear. Few movies scare me anymore, but this did, because the villains were so realistic. The end was slightly over the top, but I liked it for the FX. Give this film a try. (I am not associated with its production).

"Let food be your nourishment, and nourishment be your medicine."

Warning: Spoilers
After eyeing up All Eyes (2022-also reviewed) I decided to continue my viewings at the Soho Horror Film Festival, by going to Hell.

View on the film:

Moving to a back-breaking score from Terrified (2017-also reviewed) scriptwriter Demian Rugna, co-writer (with Camilo De Cabo & Nicanor Loreti ) / director Jimena Monteoliva welcomes Lucia ( played with a burning fight or flight urgency by Constanza Cardillo) with excellent, ultra-stylized low-hanging tracking shots being dragged across the ground round the woodland cabin where Lucia and her grandmother.

Breaking the eerie silence of the backwoods with a screech, Monteoliva splatters over-saturated dissolves over Lucia, as the likes of Burzum (played with a blood thirsty rage by William Prociuk) start to come out of the woodwork.

Holding back from playing the gory metallic Horror note until the final track, the screenplay by Monteoliva, Cabo and Monteoliva write the linear notes on the brutality unleashed by Satanic Black Metal lead singer Monk, via exploring the psychological trauma that Lucia experienced in the abusive relationship with him.

Only having her mute grandmother for company, and carrying an unborn child she conceived with Monk, the writers intelligently dovetail Lucia living off-grid, holding the fear in the stilted woods, that the horrific abuse she suffered could return, with extended flashbacks which delicately lay out the controlling and violent threads that Monk had attempted to use in order to suffocate Lucia's life,as Monk prepares to play some Black Metal.

Black Metal Horror
DBlackthorne30 July 2023
A mostly ambient & quiet film {almost ASMR sometimes} for a Metal-based movie set in the forest. A local Black Metal band who also happen to be a cult residing in a catacomb-like dwelling, runs like a bearded darkryst-like figure named "Black Monk", with a couple of girls and the band as veritable "apostles" who spend the days drawing, writing lyrics, drinking, & "working" {practicing}. They are hiding out from some former 'occult crimes' involving sacrificial rites.

A local girl develops an infatuation for the vocalist, while another girl is pregnant and lives with her mute grandma, who are both also hiding out from the Metal Cult. Overall, The Cult make their way with the help of a secretive guide {with the Absurd backpatch}, who is himself dispatched in a remarkable bloodlust scene.

Finally at the ceremonial grounds once the pregnant girl and grandmother are captured, she's literally crucified as grandma undergoes immolation, thus epidermal ecdysis revealing the serpentine demon. Her 'desire' reminiscent of a common prerequisite for skinwalkers, then taken to Hell like Don't Break The Oath.

Further cleverly amusing references to Grandma {KD Them / Conspiracy}; the Nuns Have No Fun ep to be the method of execution; one of the members suffering cranial vulnus sclopetarium like 'Dead' of Mayhem while wearing the eponymous shirt. Not to mention the very title of the film is named after the landmark Venom album by the same name!

Some noted shirts spotted are Mayhem, Mercyful Fate, Bathory, & Burzum. But surprisingly no Sepultura?
