George Takei makes his first of three appearances on My Three Sons. This time as Jimmy Soo, a hip, young restaurateur.
The title references the musical "My Fair Lady" which opened at the Mark Hellinger Theater in New York on March 15, 1956, and ran for 2717 performances, which was, at the time, the longest run a Broadway show had ever had. To date (April 2009), the original production is still the eighteenth-longest-running production in Broadway history. The show won the 1957 Tony Award (New York City) for the Best Musical.
Jimmy says he'll soon open a restaurant location on the moon. Six years later, George Takei (who plays Jimmy) would boldly go into the futuristic outer space world of Star Trek: The Original Series (1966). The character he would play, Lt. Sulu, would have the same easygoing demeanor as Jimmy.
