The character of Sarge is based on a US Army 3rd Infantry Division Command Sergeant Major named Clifford Lynch who always spoke about himself in the third-person, usually as "Sarnt-Major". Actor James McLeroy Jr also incorporated some US Navy Chiefs into embodying Sarge.
