Just watched this rerun episode of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" a few days after his actual last show aired. After the monologue, Conan showed a taped piece in which he disguised himself as an older man who interviewed some elder focus group viewers some frantic and raunchy footage of his previous "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" show. Only one or two actually liked what they saw which perhaps explains why this show that I'm now reviewing didn't do too well in the ratings compared to his predecessor, Jay Leno. Then he mentions his first guest being someone he just met backstage briefly, Eddie Murphy. In the ensuing conversation, they talk about his James Brown impression and how good he might be in portraying him in a major movie but Murphy says Wesley Snipes would be a better choice. They also do a funny bit about which voice could get higher before plugging Murphy's movie, Imagine That. Next guest is "The Office" star Angela Kinsey who's a native of Lafayette in my current home state of Louisiana but whose family is settled in Texas. She tells a hilarious story of her experiences in West Virginia during her struggling days. Conan also reminds her of her time as Max Weinberg's intern on his former New York show. After Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal perform a number, Conan says goodbye. This was my favorite of Conan's "Tonight Show" episodes, largely because of Murphy. There was also a hilarious segment called "Twitter Tracker" before the first interview that I liked. O'Brien's brief reign at an earlier timeslot on NBC didn't last long enough to really make an impact, ratings-wise. But if Fox picks him up next fall, well, there's no telling what the future holds for him. So here's to greener pastures, Mr. O'Brien...
