A nice comedy without stridency with very sympathetic acting by the two great protagonists

Mikel (Enric Auquer) is a young and famous cooking chef who must deal with his father (Karra Elejalde) , left for dead 30 years ago. He suffers Korsakoff Syndrome , a real-life disease which affects to the memory and the cognitive process, specially in cases where the patient abused of drugs and alcohol . After to discover that he still alive but amnesic Mikel attempts to visit him at hospital .

An endearing and soft comedy , it is stunningly starred by Elejalde and Auquer who create a competent couple in a low-energy film, where everything is in its place. Amusing , funny and very cheerful film filled with emotion , action , hilarious set-pieces, tongue-in-cheek and lots of humor . A nice work with its shortcomings that stands out both for its elegant execution and for the rough edges , it ends up shaping a story that is as functional as it is consistent with the style of our best screenwriters . Mazón uses its good ingredients , script , actors and staging, without presumption, to present a film up to their standards : fast, fun , with some heart and feeling for a large audience , and light enough but without being annoying . The premise is simple and plain , as a misfit but successful cook joins his stranged father with whom he wants to know an old cooking recipe . Director delivers a good work with too much things on its perfect site , as Mazón carries out a portentous knack of getting the most out of characters and situations without ever going over the top making for some very big laughs . The magnificent starring being well accompanied by a good support cast , such as : Megan Montaner , Lander Otaola , Maribel Salas and special appearance by Maria Botto.

It contains an attractive and lively musical score by Vicente Ortiz Gimeno. And colorful and appropriate cinematography by Angel Iguacel , shot in Madrid and Bilbao , Vizcaya, País Vasco, Spain . This motion picture was professionally directed by Joaquin Mazón withbudget enough , estimated 4.5000.000 Euros and had success at the Spanish Boxoffice and financed by Mod Producciones , Kowalski Films ,Copra Dailies System and Capella Film. Director Joaquin Mazón is a craftsman who has directed several TV episodes from series such as Alli abajo, Con el culo al aire, Doctor Mateo and Cuerpo de Elite ; being second Unit director and assistant director in other series as Circulo rojo, Fuera control, Cuestion sexo, Los 80 and Manolito Gafotas. Rating : 7/1o . The flick will appeal to Spanish cnema fans.

Delicious comedy

Watched this on a long haul airflight and it was pretty good. Entertaining, refreshing story of a young chef at a critical time in his career and his father (a great chef) who was thought dead returned 30 years after absence and can't remember much about his life before disappearing. The movie has very funny moments, just a right dose of light romance and mainly focuses on father and son relationship and being able to work together to create a winning recipe for their family restaurant. The acting is pretty good. I like the low profile, humorous and easy going style rather than many of the Hollywood movies which somehow comes accross rather brash and loud. This movie is suitable watching for most groups and situations.
